  • This operation allowed me to avoid fusion. I’m documenting my progress for others to see so that they can make a little more informed decision. Artificial disc replacement (ADR) at L4L5 L5S1 is where I had my two discs replaced.

7 weeks post surgery for me. Yes! Shin splints! I had them within the second week! Was wearing loafers to walk in. The pain was so bad in my shins! Finally a small voice in my head (God) told me it was my shoes! Wear your new sneakers! I did and now I wear them all day every day, and the pain eased up tremendously!

Sounds like you have some serious nerve damage. I woke up from 2nd microdiscectomy with severe pain and numbness in left foot. It finally eased up at 7 weeks. But still bothers me 5 months later. I think the nerve was damaged in surgery cuz I had NO FOOT PAIN prior to procedure.

remus petrutiu My recovery exercises so far are mostly walking and very light stretching. My discs were perfectly placed by my surgeon. I cannot bend normally at the moment as my hamstrings and legs in general are still very tight.

remus petrutiu Also, I cant really feel my discs. Sometimes I have dull pain in my back but I believe this is normal and part of the healing process.

I'm feeling pretty good now. I have had a couple of really good days although I'm still dealing with the leg soreness symptoms. Although these symptoms have improved drastically as well. I'm starting to feel more optimistic about things concerning this procedure. At this point I cant say whether or not this was a good decision or not. As I continue to heal, I'm leaning towards this being a good decision. A few weeks ago I would have said that maybe this was not a good decision.

I have really bad sciatica from pinched nerve on l4 l5 . Pain is really bad in buttocks down my leg to my foot. Dr wants to fuse . I'm really reluctant but adr sounds like a better solution. Your thoughts?
