TURBO 8th Gen Honda Civic Build | Ep.4 (CX Racing Turbo Kit)

- Well we finally started to get our CX Racing EBay turbo kit installed in the Honda...... & if I'm being honest, the fitment is terrible.
This video is super long, but I tried to be as in depth on how to turbo this car as I can. The whole reason I started making youtube videos was to help you guys out with your installs & share as much knowledge as I possibly can, so I'm sticking to that no matter how long the videos may be.
One downside to cheap turbo kits like this is they never are just a bolt on install, so don't go buying a cheap turbo kit thinking it's going to have everything you need in it for a complete install. They never do.
We still have to do A LOT of modifications to make this kit fit, but I'm so excited to rip this thing on the street when she's finished!

I'm so glad you are making this series. The detail you go into is so helpful and you were spot on saying there are not any good "how-to" videos on turboing an 8th gen (until now 😊). Thanks for going through everything and taking the time to film and edit these videos!
Thank you! 🙌🏼 I try to make em as detailed as I can :)
Hey man with these cars you'll definitely want to wrap anything and everything near the exhaust manifold with the gold heat tape.
That’s the plan! Just want to test fit everything first to make sure it all fits 😅 they are EBay parts so you can never be too sure
@@DanielKellert just figured I'd mention it just in case lol. Definitely best to test fit as you well know. Great vids man. Always enjoy them.
I LOVE THIS VID BRO!!!! This is the type of content I like to watch, the doing of things. Don't tell me, show me. Ill be putting this kit on a RSX soon and this is exactly what I want to watch. Thanks!!
Ayyy that’s what I like to hear! 🙌🏼 appreciate the support!
Awesome videos ! Keep it up ! You are doing a great job, I have a FG2 my self and planing to boost it this year, definitely worth watching your videos. Wish you the best in life !
Dooo it 🔥🔥 nothin better than good ol turbo Honda powaaa
Amazing video series bro. i love how well you explain everything. plan on boosting my fa5 soon and these videos let me know what i’m getting into before i have to figure it all out.
Thanks Jackson 🙌🏼 good luck with the build 👍🏼
Keep up the work really good and helpful content 👌
New Subscriber! Love the content and I really love how detailed and transparent you are. I got the notification bell on for more content!🔔
Appreciate that Miguel! I try to explain as much as I can to help you guys out! 🙌🏼
One more thing can you sign my turbo installer certificate… man details awesome 😎
Thank so much. I love your videos
Great job. love the videos
🙌🏼🙌🏼
You are very Sharp and attention to the details! Maybe CSX Racing need to have you get together the Actual parts list and details! True Engineer! Very Impressive!!
I Felt that “how good the turbo held over a year” 😂…. I saw that Vid 😂😂
Keep it coming 🔥
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Lol I’m the guy 🙌🏽😂 good video thought lol
Nice one bro big like👍🙏🔥💪🛎🤝💯
Posted this on the Boosted 8th Gen Civic group. Keep up the great work.
Fyi: my k24/20 gtx35 fg2 is a daily driver with water-less setup. Garrett’s have been being ran on oil cooling only for years. Call Honeywell Garrett and they’ll explain the oil restriction requirement has nothing to do with the watercooling aspect, it is due to the tolerances within the dbb center cartridges.
Appreciate that 🙌🏼 as for the oil restrictor, I should have specified journal bearing vs ball bearing applications, that’s my bad. All ball bearing turbos should have a restrictor, journal bearing turbos do not.
As for the coolant portion, I’d say all ball bearing turbos should have coolant run to them. If you don’t, you are just decreasing the lifespan of the turbo seals & bearings. I’ll leave this link here if you want to give it a read, straight from the Garrett Motion website. www.garrettmotion.com/racing-and-performance/choosing-a-turbocharger/water-cooling-for-your-turbo/
@@DanielKellert it’s known to increase life yes, like OEM cars which are have watercooled turbos however unnecessary on street cars which see less miles have done it for years. Keep oil temp in check and the turbo is fine. I have seen same result with and without watercooling to Garrett cores. Circuit track cars will definitely need it
@@Itspossiblekj so I should just run an oil cooler if I plan on going boost?
@@bryce_fa5si not unless you are circuit racing at max effort for long periods
@@Itspossiblekj ok yea no it would just be a weekend warrior maybe cruise here and there but I will definitely be driving it.I have my turbo kit from my single turbo setup so I was just gonna fit the intercooler and see how well it goes in and if it’s basically plug and play all I need is a manifold and tune I’m gonna boost mine. I just didn’t wanna pay 1100for intercooler and piping that I already have
👏👏 turbo time
Let’s go 🔥
I needed this ...helps a lot ..
Lots more coming! 🙌🏼
@@DanielKellert did you upgrade the wastegate and blow off valve or did you keep the CXRacing ones ?
@@vincentwelshman8435 We are gonna send it on the CX racing ones & see how they hold up so you guys know whether to run them or not!
@@DanielKellert I see some people commenting on some of the don'ts.. if you decide that you're going to follow some of these suggestions in the comments perhaps maybe you can make an updated video? It would help out a lot for me..I'm still learning and we'll be installing like it here soon I just got to get a couple things as set up goes
@@vincentwelshman8435 I’m gonna have videos breaking down this build every step of the way! Just waiting on a couple more parts to show up & will have another video out soon! 🙌🏼
Nice
As you're building this. I'm also building my FG2 turbo as well with the same kit, with a built motor.
How’s it fitting so far for you? 😅
@@DanielKellert I haven't mocked up yet, waiting for the cylinder head to be machine. Going built k20/k24 turbo
Bro just pressure washed his engine bay 😱🫣
thank you so much for making these videos, going to be boosting mine this winter and i was planning on going with the cx racing kit. definitely following along to see how it goes and it doesn’t look to be fun for the price of the kit. Would you so far say its more worthwhile to piece a custom turbo setup? TIA!
Couple more videos & we will see how she fits in the final positions! Seems like we are gonna have to modify a couple things to make it work. So far… I’m thinking I’d save an extra 1-2k & buy a name brand kit. But trying to find a way to make cheap stuff work is what makes it fun :)
What’s the thread pitch/bolt size for the banjo fittings?
Do u show how u did the coolant lines ?
Love the vids, What are you going to do with the MAF sensor? Delete it? Please explain
I will get to that in some upcoming videos! Not quite there yet though. Taking it step by step for now 😅. Might have to build a bung for it, or delete it & run Speed Density with an IAT sensor.
when u washing ur engine bay specifically in 8thgensi what do I need to take out or cover so I don’t ruin anything??
Can you put a turbo kit on a regular lx civic. And is it possible to also do a Supercharger on it ?
Hey I have the same car and I'm looking to do the same thing. My car is all stock and I'm wondering about the fuel rail. Other kits have a fuel pressure regulator. Can I use the cx racing kit on stock fuel rail, injectors and pump?
25:46 you could weld a bolt to the bracket than use a nut to set it up 🧐
Hey man! I just picked up an 8th gen Si. I wanted to see if there was any cheap turbo kits out there. Mine is already fbo tuned. This kit for 2k looks decent! Add some injectors/fuel pump/mac valve and better wastegate bov and its probably a great deal!
We are gonna find out how good it is 😅 Downpipe seems to fit terrible & the kit is missing half the coolant & oil lines you need to route to the turbo. I got a Hondata 4 bar & a Hondata 4 port boost controller. I’m gonna test out this wastegate & bov to see how they hold up on the dyno! 🤙🏼 Also got a DW 340lph pump & DW 1200cc injectors. We’ll see how much power she can make 😅
How much power do you make if you don’t mind me asking ?
The return drain line for the turbo won’t work.. that type of cover for the timing tensioner is meant for log style manifolds.. I thought about doing that but they said it’ll be poor drainage for the turbo. You’d have to go to the oil pan
Sounds like we might need to drop the pan & weld a 10AN fitting to er then 😅 I already ordered the tensioner cover so we will see how she fits up! If it’s enough of a gravity fed slope to the tensioner cover, it should be ok.
There’s not many videos because many are custom setups and there’s many different factors to it lol
hey man your gunna want to throw a one way check valve into your brake booster line. as well as the “upper coolant” neck thing you were talking about, that’s called an upper coolant housing and you will want the upgraded housing if you are running a big turbo as it will not clear the actual casting of the upper coolant housing
also the coolant hard line is the line that runs from your thermostat to your heater core, you’ve removed and modified the evap solenoid bracket.
I’m just gonna cut the check valve out of that factory hard line & put it in line with my custom brake booster line. Then yes the upper coolant housing is getting swapped out 👌🏼 already got one on the way.
Hopefully that heater core line clears the waste gate 🤞🏼 we will see how she fits next video!
@@DanielKellert right on man that’s exactly what i did with the brake booster line! i wasn’t able to get the cx dump pipe to clear my sub frame with the percision waste gate so that will all be fabbed up in a few weeks!
@@masoncrozier-xp2em did your Cx racing downpipe clear the manifold? Mine seems like it’s hitting the manifold & won’t fully bolt up to make a proper seal
@@DanielKellert i honestly didn’t bother buying the kit because i’ve got the PRL FMIC and all my waste gate and bov and that jazz from a previous set up (last season i had a log manifold) so i’m just having a custom down pipe fabbed
Word to the wise working on this car is not for the faint of hearts one of the biggest issue you’re gonna be faced with is the heat that will melt your wire harness that runs along the back of the firewall also that big plastic shroud that is over the wire harnessOn top of the transmission all that plastic needs to be removed and re-wrap the wire with heat tape
You are 100% right! 🙌🏼
I’ve been trying too buy a turbo kit but can’t find a kit. Prl and full race discontinued there kits. Should I buy a used kit ?
The Cx racing kit is still available & I have it linked in the description of this video. But don’t expect this kit to be a bolt on kit. I have a lot more videos coming soon on the whole install process, but so far nothing fits properly & all needs to be modified.
Definitely need to keep the check valve for the brake booster not just a line. Just a heads up.
I haven’t looked too closely at it yet but thanks for pointing that out! On most cars the check valve is on the vacuum booster fitting that the hose connects to. In this case, if it’s in the hose that’s totally my bad for not pointing that out! I will mention it in the next video 🙌🏼
It’s in the hard line with the purge valve. I cut it out and put it back inline with the booster line. Keep up the good content.
@@lenny.fg2 Sounds like I’ll be doing the same thing 😅 appreciate the advise man!
And the evap line if you don't delete it.
the graphite gasket included in the kit is kind of weak. It made a slight leak for me. I switched over to the OEM gasket and it made a much better seal. The OEM MLS gasket is definitely better than the CXracing one.
Noted 👍🏼 if we have any leaks I’ll order up a new MLS gasket! Thanks Sameer 🙌🏼
@@DanielKellert I am still using the original gasket that was under the stock manifold. I doubt you would need a new one. They still work great even if they look old. Good luck 👍 waiting to see how this project goes
when is this series going to return😕
Very soon 😈 the STI is done, just need to get 2 more videos up. Then it’s go time on the civic 👍🏼
That oil drain back is way to small
What size is the turbo?
GT35 🔥
did you relocate the ECU
Nope, factory location still!
@@DanielKellert thank you
