Russell Morris is the best! - so underrated. Consistently one of the best Australian performers / singers over the past 55 years. (and Melinda is fantastic here also!!!)
I heard Melinda singing "The Deadwood Stage" (from Melinda does Doris) on Curtin Radio (Perth) and was absolutely stunned - I had to buy the album. In doing the research (which took a while - I thought it was 'Belinda'!) I came across this clip - oh wow! I'd buy an album of these two singing together - how about it guys? Maybe the album (when it's done) could be promoted by a tour - Russell & Melinda... This has to happen - surely! Don't forget to come to WA!!! Love you both! Bernie.
Great performance. @fernald10 : thx for that info, never knew that. Kentucky Woman/Hush was the first record I ever bought, and am a fan of Rus' since '69, yet never knew that! Hah!
Back in the late 60's saw him at a local dance. Him and his music were considered a bit soft and some guy in the crowd threw a beer glass at him. He leapt down from the stage and cleaned up a few of the troublemakers on his own. Changed my view of him but took me a few more years to get past being a teenager to start enjoying his music. A real stayer.
Well Oil Beef Hooked! Melinda, the 'country chick' can really rock it! I knew it!! Thanks guys, sorry it took me 7 years to find this. Russell far better today than the 'pop singer he was years ago. :)
Wow - what a great rendition of one of his/deep purple's classics. I wish I could go back in time and live in the late 50's and early 60's and then see those aussie icons as they were on the edge of being famous. It must have been briliant back then, saving up and then going to the record store, rushing home and playing the '45 over and over. Lost days indeed. Although thumbs up to youtube or I wouldn't be here! Hahaha - my internal conflict!
I can remember exactly where I was when I heard this song,, standing beside a Fiat 850 and it was on the AM PM wireless. Want to go back and start again..
I agree with Deejaay, Russell was never a 'pop singer'. He was and continues to be an australian legendary rock singer, who expanded from early years of rock of various styles to who he has become today, continuing to put out many many albums. He doesn't stand still, unlike perhaps yourself ,who by your comment, sound stuck in the early '70's, maybe even late '60's. He collaborates world wide with many noted 2:03 artists and has been awarded the honour of joining the Aria Hall of Fame. Get with the program, my friend.
Russell has released 3 new CDs [all new material], in recent years, that have topped the Charts. He also won an Aria in 2016. Just not getting much publicity for it.
Great rendition combining Morris' earlier effort as part of Somebodys Image with a little bit of heavier Deep Purple thrown in then add two superb vocalists enjoying themselves.
There is something about a great song. Two great artists especially if one is hot with a Tamborine that makes for entertainment the way it should be. 😃😃😃

A superb version of an excellent song. Russell Morris originally recorded it in 1967, a year before Deep Purple. RIP Joe South.

Love the way the production team totally miss the organ solo...
Not a lot of chemistry between them , they need to interact more to make this work .
what a load of tripe, 'Truth'. Not a lot of chemistry? You have got to be joking
