Sometimes when people who got abused in their childhood get older, they deny the pain that their (deceased) parents had let them go through. I have seen this a couple of times. Maybe it is because they don't want to hold a grudge anymore or maybe it is because of religious reasons or the thinking that you "are not allowed to think badly about deceased people". But they have to "trick" their mind into maximizing (or even inventing) the good memories and minimizing or excusing the bad ones.
