  • I built my custom joystick using the GPIO pins of Raspberry Pi. Now I can play all those classic Retro games in Retropie using this. You can make this for Raspberry Pi A, Raspberry Pi B, Raspberry Pi B+ and Raspberry Pi 3. The three however because it has inbuilt wifi is very easy to install.

    Although i struggled to follow your video tutorial it planted the seed to an idea, the links in the description to Adafruits tutorial helped me to create an "exit rom" switch on my pi case, to enable me to go back to emulation station without having to use a controller key combination. really pleased with the result. thanks

    If you record audio in mono, pleace place it in both tracks so your voice is in both ears. This makes it much easier to hear you.

    Also. If you wanted by some reason an analog joystick
    You could use a psp joystick

    Hello, I think I have found. This is just incredible. Few days ago, I had suspected a problem whit my chinese power supply.
    I had ordered an official Raspberry one.
    I just tested the official one and all my problem disappeared.
    Thanks for your time.

    I have looked all over the internat and through aliexpress and cant find any thumbsticks like this... I just need something tactile based and all the ones I have found I can only get 1 signal per x or y axis. Please help for I am starting to lose hope on my project if I can't find this, is there a part number or anything i can look up?

      I made sketchup models for an ultimate PC table. Everything ergonomically and efficiently placed. You can make a physical table given your wood working skills.
      Also, a home automation project using rpi. Automatic door opener when a person arrives. They are catchy projects, and you'll get more views.

      Thank you. I am trying my hands on NodeMCU. So you will see home automation stuff soon.

    • @anshumgoyal
      @anshumgoyal 7 лет назад +1

      I did no know about NodeMCU and I read about it and it's a good board for wifi diy. I saw a project where automation was done using Siri Homekit. Of course MQTT can be done on an rpi. I'd suggest a video where you automate an ordinary switchboard using NodeMCU, rpi and HomeKit. Cheers!

    I´m really new to this, but i can´t transfer the file to the pie. Using Putty, and trying to do everything you do, but still, nothing happened but messages saying there is no file. Do you have a good guide/explanation on how to do it with windows? Sins when i type the exit command, the whole Putty turns off, and i can´t do anything of what you are doing.

    can you solve me a doubt? why you didn't use a pull up or pull down resistor configuration? when is needed?

    • @Retrojolles
      @Retrojolles 7 лет назад

      As i read 5 min ago, the voltage of a switch (or your buttons) is always the same. i think you'd only need pull ups or pull downs for using GPIOs as an output, when you don't have defined voltages. I don't know if i got it right, but i think this is the reason.

    So one leg of each button goes to a separate gpio pin, and another leg of all of the buttons are connected to a common ground pin. Someone please let me know if I'm correct here

    That analog stick you said we couldn't use... it's the exact same one as the one I have. Is there another way to do it, including that one?

      Rainbow Potato That's what I'm trying to figure out too. I'd like to build something that can use emulation station as well as stream my steam games, and a tactile switch joystick won't work for that.

      The Pi can't take analog input directly, try using a Teensy LC, or a cheaper alternative the arduino Pro Micro:

      Did you manage to find a way to use the analogue joystick? As far as I'm aware, you need to use something like an mcp3008 chip.

    Have you figured out how to configure it for two players using the gpio pins? Is it just a matter of modifying the retrogame.cfg file?

  • @grillpig3860
    @grillpig3860 7 лет назад +1

    Dear mediamilan,
    I have followed your steps attentively. But it still doesn't work. I am using a raspberry pi zero w. I first installed raspbian jessie and installed the kernels for the 1.8" tft screen from sainsmart and then tried to get the gpio buttons working. I changed the retrogame.cfg file for my buttonlayout and copied it into /boot but either it loads the wrong buttonlayout or I did something else wrong. Because only the start and joypad_down buttons work and they're not even on the right pins.
    I would be very happy if you could help me out there.
    Best regards
    Sebastian

      Now I know why! I reconfigured the keyboard for controlling the retropie in another way. Thats why the gpio buttons didn't work. I'm stupid XD
