"I heard it was a lone gunman." How it all started. Unusual Suspects is Season 5 Episode 3 of The X Files. Directed by: Kim Manners Written by: Vince Gilligan
@russellboedeker2070 This is one of my favorite X-Files lines, because of how it subtly hints at layers of conspiracy theories. If he had just said “It was a lone gunman”, that would have just been sticking with the official government story. But instead, when the three come face-to-face with someone on the inside of the conspiracy-world, and Byers stands up to challenge him and demand the truth, he gives them an honest, but perplexing, answer. “I heard it was a lone gunman.” But that’s what everyone has heard! That’s the official story! So you wouldn’t say “I heard…”, unless you move in circles where everyone believes something else, and from somewhere deep inside another circle you learned that the truth may instead be … that it was a lone gunman after all! Anyway, that’s how I hear the line, and from their stunned reactions, I think the three of them appreciate the paradox of his reply. And that’s why they took on “The Lone Gunmen” as their moniker - with all its inherent contradictions, this answer revealed to them the depths of the conspiracy-world.
"I heard it was a lone gunman". Perfect answer that says, that's the government story line and we're sticking to it.

What about Trump assassination attempt?
Can this phrase "I heard it was a lone gunman" apply to that? 😂
X is easily one of my favorites in the series.
Byers is the most pure of The Lone Gunmen. He’d rather die than ever compromise his morals.
"I swear to God I'll shoot you myself" 😂
x: i heard it was a lone gunman
the guys: .... wait.. that's a bar
Great clip. I forgot how much I enjoyed this episode. Thanks! 🙂
I know where he got the inspiration to add that into the scene.. from Braddock.. missing in action. They do the same thing in that.
