Thank you Mark!!!!!! This is a problem I've been having. Clock runs fine until it hits the warning, five minutes before the hour. Then it stops. No stopping issue on the half hour.
Please find me on FB. My profile picture is a drawing that a veteran did while I was at the VA. I need to ask you a lot of questions and I would rather do it there. Thanks.
I have an 8 day cuckoo clock that has recently stopped working. When it stops it is about 5 minutes before the hour. If the problem is the lock lever how do you reduce the distance between the 2 arms? Can you squeeze them together with pliers? Would I be able to fix it without taking it all apart? Thank you for your time and videos.
Does this clock have music? Because if it has music then it is probably the settings on the music levers that need adjusted. If it doesnt have music and the clock works fine after you go past the 12 then yes it is probably the lift lock lever that needs adjusted. Yes you can use a pair of strong needle nose plyers such as a leather man or other strong needle nose plyers. You can do it without taking the movement apart but you would have to take the hands and dial face off. That should give you enough room to do it. What I would suggest is that you squeeze slightly. Then put the minute hand back on and turn it to lets say 15 minutes before the hour and let it tick away. Then if it makes it past the 12 then you should be good to go and you can put the dial back on, the hands, etc., If it doesnt then you might need more adjustments. Typically you can tell if it is wrong by rotating the hands. If it is the same about of pressure from 12 to 12 then it should be good to go but if it has more resistance from 5 minutes to 12 then there is an issue. I hope this helps. Good luck. Please send me a message on FB. My profile picture is me hugging a fake bear. I will be able to chat better there and give you more advice. As I might not see any replies to this message.
Also if the clock has been working fine but just started stopping the lift lock lever could be causing this but it would have had to have some force to get it to that position. Might be some other issue going on. Does it just stop at 5 minutes til the hour? Does it work fine any other time? Does it have music? I am going to say that it has music and the music trip levers need adjusted.
Thank you very much for your time and detailed response. The clock I was referring to actually does not have a music box. But I do have one that’s does have a music box that is also experiencing this problem. I will look at trying to adjust the music trip lever. I may reach out to you on Facebook regarding how to set the music trip lever if I can’t figure it out. As for the clock I originally wrote to you about, I might need to break down and take it all apart and clean it as it is very finicky anyway, ( it has to be adjusted very precise as far as level and plumb to get it to work but has just recently started acting up). I have never taken one completely apart but after watching your videos I am hoping to try this. Maybe I will start with a movement that I am not as attached to. Thanks again for your kindness and videos.
Great video! I have one that I need to use this for right now. Keep them coming Mark!
