Word "Rickshaw" was originated in Japanese word "人力車". Originally it was used as common transportation as today's taxi. It's used today mostly by tourists for nostalgic reason. This means the driver is also a tour guide and have to have a good knowledge of tourist attractions in town.
your video is interesting because you're the first one that actually shows what it's like to be a rickshaw driver. i never knew there's a two months training and a written test. i can understand since the driver will be responsible for the passengers so there's a strict requirement to ensure their safety and comfort while you pull.
Not sure if they have this yet but Japan should have a service where tourists can rent at location, say at a park, for an hour to pull friends or family for a very short distance for experience and for hilarious, memorable photo op! Kind of like the photo op I experienced dressing up in a samurai suit in Japan.

i believe its heavy to move it forward at the beginning and when slowing down. but not in holding the handle. the rickshaw i believe made so BALANCED that the weight of the passenger would sit directly on top of the axle of the wheels which no weight should fall to the handle held by the driver. but the driver would still have to deal with the mass on acceleration and slowing down. takes some skill and stamina for running and walking long distances, but not really strength.

明治時代馬車で四時間かかった所を、人力車では四時間半で行ったそうです。フランス人は驚いて運動させてみると、スクワットを千回こなしたそうです。人力車の車夫もばかにならない体力があったそうです。
しかも食事は握り飯と漬物と汁ものでしたっけ。タンパク質は0に近いのに体内で合成したりなんかあるんでしょうね
当時の外交官は、馬が引くのに、人が引いている！なんて野蛮な国なんだ！とビックリしたそうな。
@@あお-k6c 最近は気が付かなくなりましたが昔は「東京は坂で覚えろ」という言葉があるくらい都内は坂が多くて馬車を使えないところが多かったそうです。坂には力自慢が待っていて荷車の後押しをして稼いでいたそうです。いくら力自慢でも馬車は無理です。荷運びは船で運ぶか台車でしか運べなかったという事も知ってほしいものです。

それと馬で運べる所は馬で運ぶが、馬は高価でコストが掛かったので、人力で運んだ、が正解では？
まるで好き好んで、人力で運んだ、と勘違いされるような書き方です。
因みに野蛮だ！と思っていたのは荷車ではなくて人力車夫でプライドが無いのか？と誤解してて、付き添いの日本人が説明に苦労したようです。
