How should I clean/finish that Resin Ninja Turtle?
You can find LaCalavera's files here cults3d.com/en/users/lacalavera/creations
I would suggest wash and cure it first then some thing like Krylon UV resistant clear gloss spray.
Oh and what settings did you use for the Resin print of the Skeletor?
Clean as usual to avoid loose resin welding the joints, brush on resin avoiding the joints and cure with a led flashlight, it will fill in the slight print striations and give you the glossy surface.
Yes after it's clean and cured you can use a clear spray gloss to bring back the shiny emerald look
Wash but don’t cure it let it dry and spray some Rust-Oleum painter's touch 2x clear gloss
I use RUST-OLEUM Crystal Clear Enamel spray. It hardens pretty quick so you can crank out a couple layers quickly. Prints look great, super clear, with no sanding at all.
This is the correct answer. Ive done countless clear prints and on Siraya Tech it makes it almost completely transparent depending on your settings.
I have found that if you leave a big enough drain hole to spray the clear inside the piece you can get extra transparency and clarity
@@brianheinzman6643 what is a good economical printer for a beginner?
Wow. That clear look to the turtle looks amazing. Imagine using that for the real ghostbusters ghosts toys
Maybe a frosted white or a frosted blue to give them a spiritual tone?
Y'all stop! My little heart can only take so much!
Dammm thats a dope idea. Slimer style TURTLES
Siraya Tech is starting to release a new resin called Mecha that is strong enough to resist wear from parts coming in contact with each other, while maintaining a high level of detail. So I plan on getting some when I get around to printing toys.
I might be getting some next week 😬😬😬
Cool! I look forward to seeing the results when you do so.
Would be cool if they have a strong but flexible hard PVC rubber like material like you find in some action figures
@@KirklandShunk that is something that I am also interested in.
@@UncleJessy can you make a Video about how do you vent out the fumes and particles out of your apartment/room? Where do you position the main resin printer?
I really felt for Poor Leonardo as you were pulling off his groin piece...I could see the tears in his eyes
I love to use the pledge “revive it” floor gloss to keep the super shiny clear look to the prints. Give it a try! Looks great and inexpensive!
Okay, this is cool! Love the idea of print in place articulating figures! We just did some figures for a client, but they were printed separately. Would have been awesome to do it in one piece! So great!
Gloss varnish with the airbrush works very good on transparent resin. Just do multiple coats and buff it once dry to get even better transparency
I bought a Neptune 2s following your recommendation and i must say im amazed how well it prints smaller stuff to. Like very detailed figurines, no problem!
Im now addicted to 3d printing xD
So thanks a lot!
3D printing toys sounds like a lot of fun.
And I’ve seen some people online spray their transparent resin prints with a clear gloss coat to keep them transparent and shinny.
Love it brotha !!! Nothing better then some nostalgia prints!!! I recently found some rly awesome never ending story models !!!
They look great, going to grab a few of these files You always find the coolest stuff. I had both of these as well when i was growing up...crazy how much they look just the originals.
One thing you can do that I have done on some resin prints is to take a paintbrush and paint on a coat of UV resin and cure that on top to keep that gloss transparent appearance. You will have to be mindful of joints for something like this but that's one thing you can do. The other method is to use Zona polishing papers to lightly well, polish the print. They work like micro sandpaper and the last three grits of it polish resin to a glass-like shine. Recommend using a plastic polish or a car headlight polish for the last grit if you go that path so you get a nice shine polish to it.
I prefer the zona paper method for all my prints as I also make silicone molds out of them to replicate in epoxy resin (like my dolphin and whale figures) and making the print a nice glass-like shine means no print lines come out in the molds so I can do what I want with pigments and inserts and know what pops out is as smooth as the 'master' I printed.
I’m super excited about the TMNT figures! That’s so awesome! 🍕
I KNOW RIGHT! I need to print all of them haha
Awesome prints! Love the Leonardo print. I would suggest using the gloss clear spray you used on that Oni demon mask/Batterangs you did last year. Would be ideal in this case IMO.
Sounds like we grew up playing with the same toys. He-Man and GI Joe were my favorites, and I always watched the cartoons after school. Great videos!
What fun prints! I’m glad you tried the resin print and it worked!
Absolute perfect timing! Happen to have translucent green resin in my vat on my Epax E10! This will be coming!! Thanks for the heads up! Really interested to hear about the follow up on keeping it glossy, I am in the exact dilemma currently with a large skull. Thinking of trying the no clean, and go right to cure method to see how that works. I will try to remember to update how well it works!
So I've always thought 3D printing was neat but I've never had a situation where I thought I really couldn't just live without it. But, I had never, ever in a million years thought about being able to recreate toys from my past! This makes me actually want a 3D printer!
Also, just looking at the Leonardo figure almost brings a tear to my eye.
My method with transparent resins is multiple coats of uv resistant clear coat. I typically use it in aerosol form from hardware stores or auto part stores
For keeping the turtle clear and green, cure it up and put a light layer (brush or airbrush) of Tamiya Clear Green X-25. Works great!
pledge floor gloss if you want something not too toxic and can probably get away with dipping it. if your down to work with something more harsh but will look incredible is 2k gloss coat. its a two part high gloss that they use on cars. you can get some for a airbrush at a hobby model shop like splash paints for example. they also sell a spray paint cans but its a one time use thing for bigger projects.
this brings back so many childhood memories love ittttttttttttttttttttttttt please tru t color ssoem of them and that oversized turtle is just frickin amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! came out superb !!! and actualy much better it is an amazing peice onm a shelf amazinghgggg to see it at that size
Oh my god!! That's amazing. I need all four turtles and a Skeleton in neon colors at 200%. That Leonardo looks incredible.
Literally any acrylic gloss varnish will do the job.
those prints came out amazingly well! I hope I can achieve similar quality with my 'Elegoo Neptune 3 PRO' I get hopefully soon :)
Clear resin gets cloudy when cured. I did a video on making an hourglass and what I did was paint on Polycrylic. I found spraying it made little droplets so it wasn't totally clear. I did 3 coats but the trick with a hollow model is that you have to do the inside as well. Pour some into the drain holes and move it around to coat the entire inside, then let it pour back out and let it dry. Do that 3 times and you're golden.
They came out really well.
These are amazing!!!
I would mold/cast the figure parts and pigment them when casting, then paint the parts and assemble. It's cool to be able to 3D print and just assemble them though
Those look great! You should try krylon triple-thick crystal clear glaze. I just made a wolverine in clear blue resin and spray a few coats on it. now it looks like blue crystal!
I saw someone cure the print and then dip it in floor polish. Came out fantastic.
Super cool !!! 👌🏻
For glossy look I just brush models with the same resin they were printed with BEFORE curing.
Amazing models
Pledge floor shine!! It works perfectly for my custom hotwheels windows and to restore the shine to my older hotwheels restorations. 🤠👍
You should really take a look at 3D Zip Guy's stuff! His figure is crazy good and only needing ziptips to connect everything. It's an interesting concept that I've haven't seen yet!
Came here to suggest this! 3DZG's files are incredible. Would love to se Uncle Jessy tackle some of those. I can confirm they are resin printable as well!
I think it would be cool to see some of those larger scaled figures printed in flexible resin materials. Like those Kaiju vinyl figures.
And ASMR Turtle at the end for the win!
I use Rustoleum 2X gloss clear on transparent resins that I want to keep clear. What happens is the spray fills in the microscopic indentations which make the print look cloudy. Once they have been filled in with a gloss clear coat, they smooth the surface and give you that transparent look.
Skeletor's weapon is called the Havok Staff, and it makes my heart warm that 3D printing it is an actual thing.
KAWABUNGA DUDE !! very nice
this is awesome
These are so cool!! I had a giant ninja turtle and a skeletor back in the day 😆
I'm really impressed at the articulation with these. No assembly required!
Hi! You can use a polyurethane varnish to make it look like glossy. I used spray and pencil application. Both works well!
You got He-Man and TMNT, but you forgot Thundercats, so my childhood is still incomplete. But 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!
There's an articulated Samus Aran (from Metroid) action figure you can print and I downloaded the parts. Unfortunately they're just a jumble of files, different versions, and I can't tell which ones I'm supposed to print. I may end up just printing them all.
Cool! Thank you.
That is pretty awesome.
Awesome!!!
can't wait to print this on my prusa xl in multi color!!!!
Great video! Are there any ball and socket joint tmnt figure files out there? Also the wrist stud articulation would love to be able to print replacement hands for broken gen 2 1990s turtles
Try printing a life-size action figure I would like to see you try 😋
I just use a spray can of clear coat. Rustoleum usually. I actually have a different Leonardo print in green resin that I clear coated and left unpainted.
I think it needs to printed like the originals were molded in pieces and then assembled. This way you can get those ball joints to bind and get it to be posable.
Giving the spiderman ago now and just purchased he man, got a feeling ill be printing more though
I plan on buying the Ninja Turtles to print for my older brother as he was an 80s baby who grew up with them as well. I currently have their MCU Spider-Man.
I paint the clear resin on in a thin layer and zap it with the UV light. Super clear, I don't know hot it would work close to the joints. A quick clear coat of spraypaint works well too. I am also a 3d printing noob so let me know a better one if yah hear it!
Thanks for sharing this blast from the past! I've had trouble printing Leonardo on both FDM and resin printers. Did you have to do anything to get them to come out OK? I'm using ABS on the FDM and it seems like whenever the print gets the hips done, the body can pivot and the alignment gets thrown off. On the resin printer, the main body has been falling away from the supports. Just sliced again with "heavy" support so I'm going to give that a go now.
Cooolll! 🤩🤩🤩
I used crystal clear spray paint. Takes about 4-5 coats
I think if u put the resin figures into a cup of water then cure it while it's under water it will cure smoother also don't clean it let it drip off as much as possible then when curing submerged figure give it double the time under the light
Dope i design and printed my wwf hasbro action figure to 2x scale got a ultimate warrior about 3ft tall
Hit it with clear coat spray paint, or if you have a buffer or drimmel buff it with compound but that is a lot more work.
Wow these are some amazing looking prints! I wonder how this works with copyright and stuff tbh ...
Not going to lie, this is bad ass. Would be perfect for the kids.
Would love to see you finish the TMNT with a golf club, filmed in slow-motion :)
I'm interested in what you did to the file when you prepped it for the resin printer, primarily where you put the drainage holes
IF you really wanted this to rock up as an 80's toy you would
make these with 100% infill.
I would go with a either a glow in the dark spray paint and then a glossy top coat. Or install a led light to give it special feature that we loved about toys from the 80's and 90's. And give its own card back.
I hope in the future we can make the joints more taut.
I would love to make my own toys and sell them
more videos like this please.
I'd prefer Mega Construx figures. See,the beauty of it is that the figures are all plastic construction. No pins, bolts, screws, rubber bands, nothing. And they basically can be printed in parts and put together, meaning less plastic wasted on supports.
If I were to do such a model,I'd probably start with a "blank" base which is just to make sure the parts match up enough to fit together when printed. Then users can mold bits of the model to look like whatever.
And the figures should work at any scale, provide 14 points of articulation, and as much detail as you like. It really would be awesome. At least,I think so.
I would love to see you do more 80s cartoon shows like M. A. S. K. G. I. Joe and Transformers
Would there be a way to make the joints stiffer? I think the looseness would bother me if it couldnt hold a pose well.
7:23 Hah, heck yes!
take some LEDS and put them in the base and let them Glow him like a Lamp it would be amazing to see it in the background as for the Shine use a Gloss Clear coat in light layors
Today I've just learned that action figures can be printed without assembly and it blew my mind. How to make models that can be printed like this?? No more hassle trying fit in the joints
Liked and subbed!
next one how to tighten the joints so it doesn't flop around.
You might loose a bit of detail but I brush my clear prints with a durable UV curing resin (not a printable type as those scratch too easy). I find it the best way to get a glass clear finish. Would just need to avoid the joints
Making articulated action figures was literally the first thing I thought of when consumer 3D printing first became a thing here in America.
I have a ton of Star Wars Kenner style figures I just started in resin. I tried in FDM. It did not quite work as I wanted. Mine are not print in place. My plan is to upscale terrain from Star Wars Legion and create a diorama.
I need to figure out how to get it to print faster, at standard size and recommend settings its an 18hr print on creality cr10s
So since the figures have such fluid movements, are They easy you to disassemble if I wanted to maybe paint them?
for a glass like finish go from printer to curing it in a water bath. You will get a nice glass like finish.
Can u re-use the plastic excesss on two print version,?(resin and plastic)....thank you, amazing figures.
i still have my OG He-Man figures and the castle
Amazing, do you Know where I could find free stl to try with my ender 3 ?
I am really interested in knowing if the articulated figures would scale down and just hope much.
Please make a 2x scale Toa Tahu Mata, also some clear Small Soldiers action figures.
i've been saving up for a 3d printer and then i was recommended this video and now I have to safe faster lol
I'm looking into getting a fmd for making armor for my kids what printer would you suggest and how would I scale it properly to fit them?
What slicer do you use when printing on the Neptune 2? I've had issues with the infill not printing properly with software that came with it and it's driving me crazy
I have tried to print one of these figures at 200% size and seems like it needs additional supports. I added some only to have a hand fall off on one side.
Only if there was a coloring machine!
I Watched this video like all your other content and as always I love what you do uncle Jessy . I am an 80s kid and just seen these figures and just had to have them . but I am having issues with Elegoo cura times I have the same settings as yours and it’s coming up 9 hours . I have the Elegoo 2s Where would I be goin wrong
Dear parents!
When Your kids are very good behaviour all the time and always taking good care of their things, keeping their rooms very clean, loving their favorite things and want to make nice childhood collections of their things: books, clothes, toys, video games, clothes, DVDs and etc, then donataing is very wrong thing to do. If You have few space then storage boxes and shelves will help You out and Your kids will be very happy and thankful then, if they can keep their favourite things. Childhood things are very valuable and it is very sad, if they won’t see them anymore in their life. Every child should have the right to keep their things, if they can take good care of them all the time!!!
Respectfully,
Astra Viil 😊🙏
Cool
