Facing the Hl2’s beta stalkers would be the worst. They were so much worse in the beta. They were quite a bit faster, shot you with a red laser beam, and the worst part, they were often in the dark levels, suggesting they really “stalked” in the darkness. The whole beta was nightmare fuel, and definitely makes this half life a lot more light hearted.

@@TimDragonDeckers the way they acted in the beta feels like they where some type of expandable scout assassin units deployed mostly in highly dangerous areas like the Hyperborea, AirEx or the Kraken Base even when the combine later would deploy soldiers and elite assassins to fight Gordon.
The “Dropship’s” mission is to drop off units before it flies away, so until all of the soldiers have been deployed, it will shoot similarly to a gunship.
POV: you read about Half Life lore and realize there is a good chance that they didn't bring anywhere near their strongest synths to invade earth as they've likely faced far stronger worlds before ours the thee army that forced a surrender in 7 hours was likely a small squadron to them.

Only difference is, they have the prison to their advantage and they make the chapters Nova Prospekt and Entanglement insanely difficult cause they use the prison to their environmental advantage and are always able to traverse better than you are. As their purpose, they are a lot more fierce than normal OTA soldiers.

We see throughout half life 2 that regular combine soldiers use their settings to their advantage, it's nothing special for Nova Prospekt Guards.
Striders should be earlier far more on the list, because they are easy to deal with, no matter if you are playing game or fighting it in real life. The only threat is open space like big streets or fields. Upd: To beat them just make them crush themself by hitting buildings or wall.
