James, a lovely walk up along the Glen River (which is the coolest soundtrack) and much quieter during the week👍 Was surprised at how much more work they had done on improving the track lower down last time I was there. Cool to see the ponies grazing which hopefully allows more diverse growth than with sheep. Always cool to take opportunities when they arise with all the commitments in life👍

Thanks gerry it was a great day. Always been put off doing donard with how popular it is but was really quite. Was a brilliant walk to start the weekend

Good to finally tick off Donard, mate 👏🏻
I always find the forest section the trickiest underfoot. But when you come out if it and up to the wall on the main trail it’s great to see the highest point in the country open up. The first time we were up that way I couldn’t even believe how high “the saddle” looked 😂
As the bro says, try it from Bloody Bridge the next time.

Yea it had to be done mate. It was a great walk and had the trail pretty much to myself. Il definitely try the other trail next time. Thanks for watching

Good watch James. I’m surprised that’s your first time up Donard but like you say it’s ticked off now. We don’t like doing any route from donard car park, it always seems busy but to be fair you got a peaceful day. If you are to do donard again try it from bloody bridge, far less traffic on the trail and you could hit a couple of other mountains from that side. It’s great that you have the buzz back 👍

Yea I will do that route next time matey cheers. I've never really wanted to do it . I like ones with less tourist haha. Was still definitely worth doing . Can't go wrong with any of the Mournes.

Donard is one tough enough ascent. It is busy, but not always, just during descent weather spells. I do it to see how quickly I can get up it. Its a good fitness indicator. You can go a different way, btw. Commedagh ridge. Virtually no one goes that way. Thrres also more areas to the left and off to the right where the wall is just facing the ice-house.

Yea was really good for fitness. I was told about the other route. If I do it again il probably try that way . Thanks for watching mate

You certainly made the most of your unexpected time off. Donard is definitely one of my least favourite hikes in the Mournes, but it has to be done from time to time 💪
