Andrei de Los Santos Its his least interesting album. Nothing original to say. I’m glad he’s gone back to singing about what he really knows about, which is himself.
They all are. I listened to Fear Fun non-stop this week and was thinking its OK now to put these into the Canon of eternal classic, desert island disc records.
Id say Pure Comedy is his Opus, but in my opinion, Gods Favorite Customer is the best album, just because of how deelly he digs into his inner soul to bring some of the songs, like Please Dont Die, and The Palace. During a period of time, he was havin suicidal thoughts, and left his wife to live in a hotel room. Please Dont Die is written from the point of view of his wife, and is expressing how she doesnt know where he is, and she hopes hes alive "So, please dont die/Wherever you are tonight." The Palace is a reflection of that same time, except from his own perspective, his wife sees him as living in a hotel room, whereas he sees it as hes living in a palace, where he can escape the worlds problems. That is why this album is my favorite by FJM.
It really surprised me but I came to this same conclusion. Every album has been solid front to back, but this one has an extra dimension os pure gold solidity. It could have only been improved by possibly replacing Date Night. I really like that song, especially with the abrasive synth notes, but it seems to be less good the more I hear it. Glad to see that someone else holds the album so highly.
Fear Fun is one of those albums I visit every now and then, I'm writing a novel is my favorite song and didn't knew the story behind that track. Looking forward for new material on this channel, it's a cool project.
Pure Comedy and Fear Fun are tied as my favorite Misty albums. The title track of Pure Comedy kind of reminds me of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" in terms of its worldview and its masterful poetry, and I love the way the tension and anger seems to build in the melody the whole time. There's also something ironically uplifting and liberating about his description of the human race as viewed by aliens. "Total Entertainment Forever" has a really exciting tune and a sexy saxophone flourish, and the last line always makes me cry. I think that song was the one that really turned me into an obsessive fan. Misty has a way of integrating music with existentialist philosophy and poetry that feels very natural and also kind of like a multi-sensory experience. I love what he does in "Nancy from now on;" the lyrics are these brutal images of alcoholism and self-destruction and the tune is just so completely joyous that you feel like you're in heaven. I especially love the part where he says "Hook me up to the tank and roll me to the door."
Such a good video! I saw him live last Friday, and man, he was good. Phenomenal. He puts so much energy and weight into his performance. One of the best concerts I've been to, by far. I have only respect for his artistic genius.
Same man, I saw him in Bath around the 30th last month and he was really incredible. Better than any prediction I could of had. Pretty inspiring to know that there's somebody as iconic as him around today
Pure Comedy is his best for me, no question. Judging by the singles I’m thinking the new album is gonna be a bit of a letdown, but I’m hoping I’m wrong.
You are wrong! I got to listen to it early because I bought the vinyl and they let me stream it 2 weeks prior to the release, but the album is so good! The first song is my favorite so far!
Ive been hoping he'll dig up just an ounce of that honkey-tonk from Fear Fun. Entirely neglected from that point forward but it's SUCH a great sound for him.
Got all the right moves. 81 i dunno man 1971. No kid knows life in the manner of say a 45-50 year old. Ehhh he comes across as an Old Soul, but still at 35 and seeing it for all its worth. Not very common. Maybe i was to sheltered. Regardless timeless songs & some of which youcan can apparently girate and convulse to. Which both of those things are fun to do. Id like more Pop Song #1 & #2 etc.... Totally encapsulated the late 80s and early 90s before any of us found 120 minutes. If u skated you knew Sub Pop but if not all you had was those Color Me Bad gems lol, anyways fucking rock on and give them the byrd if they dont like it
I think he’s a genius and one of the best artists in the world; I just wish he would focus more on his singing when he performs live, instead of doing the whole “frontman thing”. It takes away from singing abilities. If you compare his more recent performances to his older ones, the older ones where he is just focusing on singing, are much better and much more powerful. Here’s an example: ruclips.net/video/IqZ-lvktCyU/видео.html
No one loves FJM as much as me, but he did hire a PR ad company and they were the ones who helped him put together the whole “father john Misty” thing. His new album is unparalleled genius.
Aren't you missing a bit of time line as far as bands he played with or for or together. All in all nice video. But man I thought I was going to hear he took classes or sang in choir growing up (who didn't? Don't answer all of you who missed out on fundamentalism. Check it out could tune you up if you needed to be.its a good thing)) anyways where was I? Fuck it. Cool man!
if he's gone from narcissist to conscienceless.... he's totally delusional.... his every movement... every word is pre planned..... and predictable..... who thinks he's profound....? and no musical ability much less range.... please

I STRONGLY agree😁
Hey Shuffle Quest, I appreciate you. Nice job buddy
Bandstand Thanks so much! I was just binge watching your videos last week. Keep it up!
This guy has been my favorite artist for a while and I allow myself to say he's the best songwriter of my generation, such an underrated artist!!!!
Holy shit will forever be the greatest song ever made

Edgard Vasquez Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Fear fun was a truly important album for me. Right at the right time, right in the right way.

That was very well put together!
Thank you!
I think God’s Favorite Customer is his best. Such a brisk and beautiful album. I never skip a track
Pure Comedy is his best for me, no question. Judging by the singles I’m thinking the new album is gonna be a bit of a letdown, but I’m hoping I’m wrong.
Pure Comedy is my favorite as well. I still have high hopes for the new album!

Pure comedy is hands down the best album ever made
Jacob Strain it’s really good but there’s lots of other really good albums
Great video. FMJ is one of my favorite artists ever.
Such a great video man! FJM is a true legend
Earned a subscriber, good work
Erickson Films 💯
Great video. Reminded me very much of Nerdwriter! (That's a good thing)
thezoexperience1 Wow, what a compliment! Thank you!
Ive been hoping he'll dig up just an ounce of that honkey-tonk from Fear Fun. Entirely neglected from that point forward but it's SUCH a great sound for him.
Helpful insights but would have liked a deeper look at why he is so polarising, as you mentioned at the start of the video.
My favourite album definitely is Pure Comedy.
Mr Tillman is my favorite song of his.
Those J Tillman records have some gold on them. Dunno why he hates on his old stuff so much, theres a lot of great songs in there.
That was awesome!
Father John Misty is Elton John for cynics.
And I fucken love him for it.
what is the performance of pure comedy featured in which he dances? cant find it
Fear Fun is my favorite cause I knew him there
My favourite FJM Album.......... All of them.
Pure Comedy is pure genius!
i just wanna know where he hides his eye brows
The unintentional irony of ending the video asking for likes and comments after talking about father john mistys album pure comedy is intense.
Good vid
Can somebody link the performance at 4:10 ?
His SNL appearance around the time of Pure Comedy's release.

God’s Favorite Customer & I Love You Honeybear are the best !!

where did you find the footage of him painting?
It was in a short film made for the Pure Comedy album!
Fear fun
So this is who they built Joseph Seed off of
Why polarizing?
minkya1010 You will have people who say that he’s one of the greatest artists of all time, then have others who say he’s an overrated hack.
minkya1010 he’s very opinionated
He's that kind of artist people either love or hate.
All great, but pure comedy
no, go away
No one loves FJM as much as me, but he did hire a PR ad company and they were the ones who helped him put together the whole “father john Misty” thing. His new album is unparalleled genius.
WHO'S THE PR'S NAME THEN? TELL ME PLEASE, I SHOULD LOVE HIM INSTEAD IF HE'S THE TRUE MASTER MIND BEHIND ALL THIS FATHER JOHN MISTY FALSENESS
Crazy how this guy stays so skinny for being a 1000 lbs.

TOO MANY NOTES!
I never heard his voice before it is not what I hoped
