    Nice one! I find it a bit strange when people describe everything as “killer” and are in for the complete series ….. all that says to me is they just love having stuff on their shelf and don’t really listen to a lot of these things much more than once

      Totally agree. People who buy everything, IMO are not building a nicely curated collection. They will end up not listening much to a lot of those albums. Fairly pointless really.

    • @drazenbabich
      @drazenbabich 11 месяцев назад +3

      I love Tone Poets but I own only about 25-30% of all released titles in that series so far. A friend of mine has all but one, which as you say is pointless, he maybe listens to 20 of them if even that.

    As always, very well done Jay. Still dipping into jazz. So much to learn yet, but love the way blue note markets their stuff, classic series=great price, good product; tone poet, great price for a superb product. Keep up the great work.

    • @spinzvinyl
      @spinzvinyl  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much, Jason! All things being equal, the Tone Poet series provides so much value for the price! The classic series is very good as well, and I have my share of them. The fact that they're only $10 apart is pretty astounding. It took me a bit to justify the extra $10 but once I grabbed my first Tone Poet, it was clear to me where that money was going and in my opinion it's so worth it! Especially when other premium Audiophile pressings can easily exceed $100! I can't bring myself to jump in that pool!

      @@spinzvinyl Man! I didn’t think I’d agree with you but I do. Max is playing like he had something to prove lol. And, of course, because I’m listening for it it IS very distracting. It’s like one running drum solo under everyone else’s playing. Oh well. Can’t love em’ all. Also, having him off in the left channel makes it worse. Center left/right would be easier on the ears.

      The Tone poet catalog is based on rare obscure titles. I think they're doing a great job.

    • @spinzvinyl
      @spinzvinyl  Год назад +1

      Hey Rob! Your point is well taken. I'm actually very pleased. I know I'm only grabbing about half, but that's a pretty great ratio. I think Blue Note has done a nice job of diversifying their releases. This go 'round is a little light on the "popular" Blue Note titles that people think of, but I love the fact that it's pretty stacked with some of the lesser know bangers. In fact I tend to enjoy some of the lesser known titles even more than the "usual suspects". Sorry you didn't find much here. Definitely check out Jackie McLean and Bobby Hutcherson if you like that kind of thing!

    • @spinzvinyl
      @spinzvinyl  Год назад +2

      I forgot to reply to your point about the old tapes. There's a great video out there with Don Was and Joe Harley that gets in the weeds about the Tone Poet series. I'll link it in the description. As far as I know most of the Blue Note tapes have been pretty well preserved. The biggest, and fairly subtle, changes to the "remastering" is to bring back some of the dynamics that were purposely crushed back in the day because of poor/cheap playback equipment.
