  • In this video, I'll walk you through how to reface your door using vinyl wrap, in this case 3M's architectural vinyl wrap known as DiNoc (WG-1710 specifically for this application). Using vinyl wrap is a cost effective way to give doors a fresh new look.

    Best door wrapping guide, straight to the point with great visuals and explanation. Love the technique!

    Excellent demonstration! We do these types of doors but have not done the frames. Do you have a video demonstrating that technique?

      Unfortunately, no. The frames we have wrapped have all been print vinyl that is part of an overall wall mural that the door is incorporated into. If you were to wrap the frames, I would do them in pieces.

    Perfect! Exactly what I was looking for. I have never wrapped before and my new garage cabinets were installed with too dark a melamine so I was thinking of wrapping them with a 3M wood grain. Question: If I don't want to wrap around the door can I just cut it flush - will it still bond ok and not begin to lift? Will I need to use that 3m primer glue pen you used to on the edges so I have a good bond. I have never used this so my fear is the the edges will start to peel up. Thank you! I wish I could find a professional like you to do this for me. I live in North Hill suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. Do you know anyone in this area that comes to people house to wrap cabinets? Thanks!!!

      Thank you for watching. Yes, you can cut flush if you don't want to wrap around the edges. Just "cut back" by holding your blade at a 45 degree angle relative to the edge corner so that you don't leave a "pick edge" on the edge of the door. It's always good practice to use some primer on the edges, particularly ones that my see high wear/handling. 3M, I believe, actually requires primer to be used for warranty when using DiNoc architectural vinyl wrap.

      @@ColorChangeCustoms Thank you ! I am using DiNoc wrap so I will use the primer near the edge. FIrst time doing this for me so I picked up a lot from your video.

    Amazing explanation! Im thinking about adding this service to my wall finishes business. Any recommendations on pricing? If you dont mind how much would this exact door cost as an individual job. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

      Honestly, I'm not sure in terms of pricing. The company I work for does all the quoting...I'm just one of the installers, I'm not on the sales side. But if you already have an idea of your labor costs, then I would add material cost and any other incidentals you feel necessary, like time and supplies for prepping a door (such as doing some body filler and sanding if necessary, hardware removal and hardware reinstallation), and any overhead costs you might typically include in a quote. A decent installer trained on using DiNoc can wrap a door like this (after the door has been fully prepped) in around 30 minutes, give or take, based on the installer experience level. So, hopefully that gives you a framework to price even if I can't give you an exact price.

    Hi, can I use any other glue instead of 3m primer

    • @ColorChangeCustoms
      @ColorChangeCustoms  Месяц назад +1

      Yes, but 3m of course only recommend their product. I've used Avery ProBond adhesion promoter in a pinch as an alternative

      It just takes a bit of practice. I've done probably 100+ doors now, so it's "easy" for me, but my very first few were disasters LOL!

      Sorry for the late reply. If you are using 3M products, they recommend 3M primer 94.

    Is that a solid wood door? Do you need to apply primer on the entire door or just the perimeter??

    • @ColorChangeCustoms
      @ColorChangeCustoms  10 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know if the door was solid wood through and through, or just a core with wood veneer sealed with a clear. Typically, primer is used on just the side edges, and maybe along the top and bottom edges if the installer feels necessary. I never put primer on the entire surface of the door.

    Is it not easier to take the door off?

    • @ColorChangeCustoms
      @ColorChangeCustoms  6 месяцев назад

      In my experience, no. These doors are pretty heavy and can make it difficult to work on if you need to move it a bit if on the hinges. Also, once you are done, you really risk damaging the vinyl reinstalling the door due to their weight. But, like all things, it all depends. If the door is super light, then maybe it is. However, the doors I've worked on have all been heavy doors like these.
