I love guys like this... They call up the local rental yard and have something they have only seen from 40-50 m away delivered to their driveway. I love it when they call me, and the calls start like this, I can basically charge what I want if I can "Get it out and make it run again" .. "you have something that can turn over an upside down Bobcat?" or "Do you guys have a small crane that can lift a small tractor?" or the most often called one involving rentals " I've got my tractor stuck in a hole"! I love Hank Hill, he's a good 12% of my business. This guy just needs a bit more stick time, it also doesn't help that it's not really the right piece of equipment . This guy sounded like he had fun, he got the stump out and importantly, no one got hurt! well done!
some years ago i had a tree stump like that, at 9.0 oclock am, i sprinkled some corn around the stump and let the hens out, by 10.30 am, the stump was out, no damage to the lawn eather. what a tool.
What I finally learned (at my advanced age) from this video is the correct name for what a "skid steer" is. All my life I just called them "Bob Cats" no matter the brand. For that I am happy to have watched the video.
Just a little advice. Small bites are more effective. Level out the bucket, dig shallow, make square around tree. Continue to make square deeper, give stump a push at the top and see if it is semi loose. If so push it over, if not make square deeper. Eventually, you will push the tree over, switch buckets and cover hole. May need to add more dirt. Only a few trees have really deep tap roots, I learned those trees weren't worth my time while clearing pasture. After all your trees are gone, just rent a stump grinder for the few trees with long tap roots.

Excellent idea! Charge the customer $500. for the stump removal and $800. for the lawn repair. Plus it keeps the help busy. Good way to make a buck. I like it. Shhh! Don't tell them there such a thing as a stump grinder.

I've learned how to take the forks and dig out roots around trees with them to get it out. Use what you got and figure out how to get most out of it. It never hurts to try. Your going to dig up the country side by the time your done with it, And you can make a good video about the durability of that thing ! Bandit

push with your stump bucket straight with your push arms...start away from the stump, work toward the stump, you have no power with the end of the stump bucket, use it only to cut roots, then to push the stump over...Be special sure the roots are all loose on the side you decide to push from.
so not impact your tilt cylinders thinking you are gaining power, you are killing your hydraulics, be smooth...work the dirt off the stump while it is stihl attached to mother earth.
That was pretty impressive. It's a good thing you're redoing the landscape of the yard, otherwise you'd have to answer to the wife for tearing up her yard with the skid steer. LOL Stay safe.
I find it a lot easier to get the stumps out if the trees still attached. More leverage that way I'm able to pull most trees the size of that one there out with my little half ton Ford. Sucks when they snap off though you can avoid it if your careful. Nice video by the way people are giving you way too much grief for your first time

I hope its a rental. You stretch the hydraulic hoses to a dangerous point. Ever had a broken hose or fitting shoot hot oil on you? At least the hoses were covered with protectors. Good !

A single fork on a pallet attachment would do a better job. You should never put that much strain on your tilt cylinder. Instead, dig the bucket in and drive forward while dumping and raising at the same time. It will give you a lot more leverage.
Clean the dirt from around the stump with a spade.... Would take all of 30 seconds to cut it off at ground level. Put an inch of dire over it....allow it to finish rotting out on its own. Even if there was a nail or wire in it......far cheaper to buy a new chain !
It's actually pretty decent I just didn't know what the hell I was doing it was the first time I had ever used it and hadn't had much time in the skid steer either
If anyone around West Virginia has stumps they want removed just save your money, I'll remove them by hand and the damaged area will only be slightly larger than the stump, I will fill the hole and smooth it off too. I charge $20-30 for a stump that size depending on how hard I think it will be, takes me 20-40 minutes for one that size and I even haul the stump and debris away. Looks fun running that though, hopefully it pays for itself.

If you are going to do a job, do it right. Last month, It took me, a senior citizen, 1 hour a day for 8 days to manually dig up a stump with a shovel, an ax, a wheel barrow and my arms. (If I was in my 20's, it might take me 2, maybe 3 hours) My lawn is untouched. Watching this video was torture...
I'm debating buying a stump bucket. I already have a brush grapple so I'm undecided on a grapple or not. Likely not. I do like the fulcrum style over a straight. I think it gives you better power. I rent an excavator to do this size now and use pallet forks close together for little stuff. Hmmmm...........
Small skid steers like this have very little weight in the front. Also this is a tire machine which is pretty much only good for jobs on hardpack surfaces. Hes using the “weight” of the machine to try and push the tool down in the dirt and the “traction” of the machine to break the roots. This wouldve worked way better on a bigger tracked skid steer in my opinion. Still wouldve torn up the yard and your left with a big hole to fill in, but hey, you have a skid steer and a bucket right?
I'll tell you guys what I like about this bobcat instructor, is he managed to get the roots cut on three sides and then tried pushing the stump over against the side he did not cut. I have only been working on equipment all my life so here's what I think. If this guys brains was gasoline he wouldn't have enough to power a piss ants motor cycle around the inside of a cheerio. Lol. I always did like that saying. What do you guys think?
I just don't get it you get the stump out have to get rid of it plus roots restore the yard with a stump grinder remove the chips ad some dirt grass seed done they do have them at rental places for skid steers if that's your thing.

I have a CID extreme stump bucket on a bobcat s570 it will run circles around this one. Even dig out ironwood stumps and move big rocks easily

Looks like a kidney belt would be an asset.. Sometimes with bigger roots it helps to start farther from the stump and work your way in.

I just learned quick attach doesn't have any taper in their SSQA making it harder to attach, but it does save bringing an excavator along.

After you bust the seals in the lift arms a couple of times, you'll wish for a stump grinder.
I've had it for over a year and a half still havent busted any seals
either gonna blow the seals to hell and back or bend the cylinders.
well a stump grind would of worked but I wanted to reseed my yard anyways. The deep ruts just add personalty to my yard.

The proper way to use a stump bucket is to get under a root and with upward pressure allow the teeth saw the root while pulling back!

I'll tell you guys what I like about this bobcat instructor, is he managed to get the roots cut on three sides and then tried pushing the stump over against the side he did not cut. I have only been working on equipment all my life so here's what I think. If this guys brains was gasoline he wouldn't have enough to power a piss ants motor cycle around the inside of a cheerio. Lol. I always did like that saying. What do you guys think?

I just don't get it you get the stump out have to get rid of it plus roots restore the yard with a stump grinder remove the chips ad some dirt grass seed done they do have them at rental places for skid steers if that's your thing.

Pick and shovel comes to mind.
Stump grinder or attachment would be alot easier and the way to go, less wear and tear on your machine 🤔
