Lets go baby. You're now equipped! Make some dark drum n bass for us to consume 🙏 I don't hear enough these days (unless I'm not looking in the right places)
Nice, this is what jazz heads call 'tension and release'. I just like the tension part mainly 😂 I made a whole ambient drone in lydian augmented recently, and it sounded dark as. Diminished scales are worth learning too, or just chuck in a few random notes from the wholetone scale. Always good to get away from regular major/minor tonality 👌
wicked. i've always just done it in the synth by ear but that tip on the percussive hits was a great one! old tv series(even some cartoons) used these a lot when i was growin up. ;)
its funny because you can kind of stumble upon it by just mashing keys like a curious child...the power of experimenting! oh god yea, all over old cartoons and horror flicks. i think a good bit of them came off movie/studio sample cd libraries
Happy new year! I’m just glad you said tech step and not dub step. Seriously. Sounds great man. Going to have to test this out. This video gives me Ionian Dorian Phrygian vibes too.
Damn this is topical af. I recently listened to Infiltration Unit by Arcologies and Critical Downtime and has me going down this same dnb rabbit hole. Such a sick sub genre
silly silly question by someone that does not know a lot about music theory, are cluster chords part of a minor or a major scale? sorry it sounds great as a technique but confusing at the same time
Techstep revival confirmed in 2025
YES PLEASE
i've been trying to make it happen for like 5 years now
Yep
I was just thinking about drones Ed Rush and Optical use, what awesome timing! Keep up the vids, they're super useful AND inspiring.

Excellent, thank you! This inspired me to sample a few chords for Amigo Sampler food :)
Oh mate, some dark chords like this chucked into Amigo would be heavenly

wonderful, thank you.
💪
Great advice. I think I’ll use it for some breakbeat tracks.
Nice, I always loved this vibe.

@@Thought-Forms it's true. children constantly unknowingly stumble upon the secret. i guess exploring synths will keep us YOUNG... ha. peace
Very nice. I always try to make three atmospheric pads and intros nebula and equinox and other sci wax stuff do. Definitely some good techniques here.
Cheers g. Love some nebula
Amazing video ❤
thank you, anyme!
Happy New Year everyone! and thanks as usual for the great video! there aren't many youtube channels like this one 😘🍫☕🍹🍸🥂🍇
Happy New Year, Shinjuku! I appreciate that 💪hope you have a great 2025 and keep destroying folks on tekken
Starting the year off strong. Thanks so much for this one.
Holding the first three notes of any minor scale is a cool way to get this effect too but slightly more musical ✌
You mean, like A-B-C?

Happy new year, sinister! The day I make a dubstep video...the world will likely be ending 😂
Call and Response! Would love to see a video covering z-series filters
More E-MU videos on the radar! Z-planes and all their other tricks
@@Thought-Forms also big thanks for simplifying this process
I just came back from seeing Robert Eggers' Nosferatu
How was it?

thats a sexy album by those two. Arcologies has some dope tutorials on bass sounds in the genre, go check them out if you haven't!
please make a video on rhythm & sound

Might be a dumb question, but is the key of the sound whatever root note you use? I'm assuming yes.
Pretty much!
No. Clusters are essentially atonal: without a key
Source DIE-rekt btw
If three notes are a triad, would two notes be a diad ?
Technically I think so - but I'll let someone who went to julliard correct me if I'm wrong LOL
close, dyad.... not diad.
@@Thought-Forms a power chord on a guitar is a dyad.... Im not Juilliard trained musician ;-)
Try to make all styles of dance music but... 2025 I'm going atmospheric dB and jungle
So many great genres it's hard to pick, but you CAN NOT go wrong with atmospheric dnb. Good choice!
