Seeing this video makes me want to get thinner chipboard😂 Thank you so much for you INDEPTH tutorial. You did the work for your viewers. New subscriber for sure!!
This instructional video was very helpful because I am new to cutting chipboard!! I think you did excellent job of explaining different thicknesses and ho to handle and cut them. Thank you so much! I am excited to start creating!
I'm wanting to make binder slipcases for my card collection and I have 1in,1.5in,2in,3in, and 4in binders I just need to know what direction I can go with thank you for making this video for real
I use the craft knife for cutting and find it a strain on my wrists so I have been looking into buy "something" to cut the chipboard with and your video has been extremely helpful. Thank you for posting it.
Claudia, Thank you! This is great information and review/comparison! I have/use the Carl for cutting all my chipboard (mostly 85pt) and I love it. I even use it to cut small pieces...but, admittedly, I have to go way back to using my school math lessons and fractions. ;) Just the other day, I needed a 5/8" piece of chipboard for a notebook spine. All I did was subtract 5/8 from the length of my piece and that told me where to align the edge on the ruler. (Ex. 8"- 5/8"= 7 3/8"). That way, the 'scrap' that fell off when I cut it was the piece I actually wanted. When I realized that, I did a whole bunch of math/fractions and cut several 5/8 pieces. yippee. See, kids...you really DO use fractions in real life. ;p
LOVE this video! So helpful and easy to understand!! Love your crafts!! I have been very happy with each item and they make fabulous gifts. I am going to try some of the cutters that you use!! Donna
Claudia, have you heard of the Klutz Glove? Quilters use it when they cut fabric with a rotary cutter as the stainless steel woven in the fibers helps to protect from cuts! It's sold by Fons and Porter>it might be worth looking it.
Funciona bem! Tudo de bom!
Thank you Claudia. I've been all over youtube learning about chipboard and woe is me. I had no earthly idea it was so hard to cut. But at least you delivered the bad news nicely and gave us options, for which I thank you. I see you are off for Xmas in your Etsy shop and will be back on the 5th. I may have to buy some pre-cut from you and I hope you sell it the size I need, LOL. If not, it looks like some hard labor is in my future. Liked and subbed :)
Thank you for sharing. I love the sewing machine , that you have in your back ground. Do you have the pattern for that, if so, is there a kit or information about one?
Hello, thanks for watching. Yes, I have kit with written instructions with lots (306) color pictures. This is a great piece! I love this project so much. You will find it on my online shop: www.etsy.com/shop/colorwayarts
Hi Bonnie, yes I have, it is in my online free course. You will find it and much more videos here: learncartonnage.colorwayarts.com/p/joycartonnagefree
Claudia Squio thank you for responding. I signed up for your free classes last year and am just now getting the time to watch the series. I'm very excited to start making some of your designs and have ordered a tool kit and the boot kit groom your store! Thank you for sharing your talent!
I'm still looking for a good and affordable chipboard cutter. I like the idea of Rotatrim but the price is a factor to consider maybe de Dahle 550 (way more affordable). Do you have any knowledge of this brand? Thanks.
Hi Alexandra, I have never used, I made a quick research and found that it cuts chipboard up to 2mm thick....so.... you may give it a try.... and return in case you don't like it! If you tried, please let us know what chipboard it cuts......
What an informative video! Thank you for passing along your experience and skill. I have made quite a few albums and boxes; you have a lot of information that I have never heard before. My go to trimmer is the Rototrim just like the one you showed and I have the same complaint about not being able to cut small pieces. But the cuts are beautiful. Do you have any recommendations for adhesives, just in case you found something I haven't. Thanks again for the enlightened video.
There are different safety rulers available, if that's what you are asking for. I have one suggestion in my "Amazon suggestion" on my shop, take a look. Thanks
The heaviest paper I have at home for boxes - and it comes in some colors, is Reich Savoy, 100% Cotton. It comes 236 lb DT Cover. It is measured in 640 gsm thickness. . that is 1/32 inch thick. I cut it with my Cutterpillar pro. Since my dies don't always cut through it, I partially cut it with the die and finish it with an exacto. PaperPapers.com is where I get it. Hope that helps. Good video
Next time you are looking for a cutter, check out the Kutrimmer 1058. It's pricey, but if you need to cut lots of bookboard, it's fabulous. It cuts cleanly and has a manual clamp that holds the bookboard while cutting. It won't budge at all when you clamp it. www.mybinding.com/kutrimmer-1058-paper-cutter.html?%20&scid=scplppn-3201298&sc_intid=pn-3201298&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhLGo3YKh1wIVBkOGCh1OTQvbEAQYASABEgLzdvD_BwE
Thanks so much for sharing Cheryl. I check it out and already loved! Seems to cut very well. Do you need to be "strong" to cut it? I mean, do you need to use a lot of pressure if cutting chipboard?
Claudia Squio i stand up when cutting to be able to put some weight into it, but it doesn't really take that much effort because the blade is so sharp and the handle that you press with your left hand is easy to work and holds everything nice and secure while cutting. I can't imagine book or box making without this cutter now.
RotaTrim cutters are incredible, but they're not effective for cutting thick chipboard. The manufacturer claims it can handle 3mm thick chipboard, but not without A LOT of force. Their recommended maximum overtaxes the blade and rotary assembly too much for my liking. You're probably squeezing the material out of skew by applying so much force as well. The RotaTrim comfortably cuts 0.05" chipboard, so I laminate a few layers for my bookbinding cover boards. Yes, cutting three pieces instead of one is more work, but it beats trying to cut three identical pieces with a hand blade and ruler.
Agree! not easy to cut the thick one! Recently I tested a 87 points (gray color), that was not as dense as mine, and cuts much better! Testing and trying is the point! Laminating a few pieces is for sure a great way to go! I do that a lot as well! Thanks for being here!
Thanks so much for this video!!! And the comments are helpful too!
Greetings and thank you Claudia for all the information.

Thank you so much for taking time to make this video Claudia!
Thank you for explaining the thickness. I love chipboard projects but learning chipboard weight and what to order has been very frustrating!
hello, figuring out about that was a challenge for me in the beginning.... glad you liked and hope that will be easier for you now!

Wow that never came to my mind to do that thanks 😊

Great video, thank you! I've been using a heavy-duty utility knife to cut .067 bookbinding board. So the 100 pt chipboard will be a real workout...
Yes it is a real workout Laurie! But with appropriate tools can be better!!
Good information.
Thank you so much!!!!🙌🏻💗
Hi Claudia. I love the way you teach us. I have the tools I ordered to you. Do you have a class to make your tool Box? I like it ! Blessings
It may be easier to use the Rototrimmer if it is turned upside down. That way you will be pulling the blade towards you instead of away from you.
to make a clean cut with the Logan mat cutter, you need to use an other piece of cardboard under the main cardboard.
It might be worth just getting thinner chipboard, cutting several pieces, and gluing them together.....
Thank you for sharing. I love the sewing machine , that you have in your back ground. Do you have the pattern for that, if so, is there a kit or information about one?

Thank you, so much, I just ordered the kit. I can't wait to get it.
Thanks Jeretta, you will love making it!
Did you ever try with balsa wood? Most definitely more expensive, but also stronger?
Do you have a video for the sticky note holder?
Hi Bonnie, yes I have, it is in my online free course. You will find it and much more videos here: learncartonnage.colorwayarts.com/p/joycartonnagefree

I wonder if you could use a saw of some kind with the 100 point chipboard?
🙃🙃🙃

@@ColorWayArts thank you for your kindness to take time to respond my question.
Claudia, which chipboard do you like to use for planner/agenda cover?
where can I find the 100 pt chipboard, it is almost impossible to find in larger sizes ?

How do you poke a clean hole in chipboard?
Hello, you can use a paper awl, or hole punch, my preferred one is Crop-a-dile from We R Memory keepers
@@ColorWayArts thanks!
W hat is the type of ruler you use? I am looking on Amazon and can’t find it.
