Lovely garden Katrina! 👍🏼 The figs are actually calles „Madelaine de deux Saisons“, which means in mild climates you could expect 2 harvests a year. Its one of the most cold hardy fig varieties, so there should be no problem to plant it in your garden. The coriander also is quite cold hardy, just needs a bit of cover from icy winds.

My sugar rush peach peppers have also taken FOREVER to ripen this year! I have sooo many peppers in my garden right now that I need to harvest and freeze!

Thanks for the suggestion! Over the winter months I mostly use my polytunnel to protect the more tender plants from the cold but I do sow some hardier plants such as sweet peas, broad beans, nigella etc. I don’t really grow/harvest any food because it’s a bit cold. I could grow a mix of winter salads but to be honest with you, I don’t eat that much lettuce over winter! I tend to stick with the chard to go into casseroles and curries 😋 I love my comfort food!
I’ve watched the video throughout your smile and voice are beautiful, it’s amazing how you do things, I’ve recently started doing gardening, I’ve planted all my spring bulbs , but I’m not sure about veg I would love to know what veg to plant in these winter months, also my garden isn’t that big so if you could pls suggest me how to grow veg in more easier way xxx thanks lots of love ❤️

Another great video Katrina. Thanks for sharing. We've had so much Spring rain in my part of the world, that I haven't been able to get out in the garden much at all. But now that you're going into Winter, are you planning to do any pruning of your fruit trees? I'd love to see a video about that. I'm never to sure about the best way to go about this, and worry that I might do more harm than good.
excellent vid as usual, is there any chance of doing a video on how you prepare and preserve your crops? the beetroot and chillies would be great to see, im always a bit dubious about the method of sweetening and preserving beets, they never seem to turn out how i would like them.

It'll be really interesting to see how the plants grow with more light over where you trimmed the hedge. Just curious about you're sowing Sweet Peas now, I just bought some seed, I'd like to hear your thoughts on those, as I wasn't going to sow until Feb. or March. Ahh you mean behind the shed? I was hoping to do it last year but I ran out of time before the birds started nesting. It’s going to be a big job! I love my hedges but they do require a lot of work to maintain. The tallest one backs onto the car park and there’s a metal fence behind it so that’s why it’s so big on shady side.
Perfect watching on a dreary Saturday morning - thank you so much, Katrina! I have a quick question - have you ever experienced cabbage root fly/maggots at your allotment? They've made their way into two of my raised beds on opposite sides of my garden and gave my cauliflower and now my turnips an early death. :(( I've looked into nematodes for next spring, and I've put cabbage collars on my new turnip seedlings. Any advice? Your beetroots are gorgeous and I really want to achieve that hahaha. Thank you!
I’m so pleased I helped to brightened your morning ☀️🍂 I haven’t experienced cabbage root fly as I don’t really grow cabbages on my plot. I have used the carrot fly nematodes though and it was a great success so I think your looking at the best control methods along with the collars. Best of luck 🤞🏻

I have just recently taken over an allotment plant and discovered a gooseberry plant that is looking identical to how yours is currently. I was actually wondering it mine was pretty a dead and past its day, do I need to cut it right down like you do raspberry plants over winter or just leave it and it will flourish and fruit again next year?
Thanks for joining me Sophie! In regards to your gooseberry I would leave it for now. Pruning is usually done to improve the shape, remove dead/diseased wood and to remove very old wood. See how much fruit you get next year as they only grow on branches that are 2-3years old. If you accidentally remove them now you won’t get any fruit!

Is it a good idea to use bark as a mulch/protection? I have a load to spare so please say yes lol

They said not to put mild dew plants in your compost pile or the mold may spread throughout your compost. Love your dahlias.
Thank you! In regards to composting meldewy leaves, the composting process and winter chill will kill off the spores.
