Some references would have been useful for the research mentioned in earlier on in the talk regarding how many words an intermediate learner needs to know.
I don't believe in pre-teaching vocabulary at all because the minute they start reading the text, they don't remember them. I usually include key words in the pre-reading tasks for example I will have students discuss some questions and these key words will be in the questions.

Great tips. On CELTA course where there is too much focus on teaching vocabulary within context. Almost considered a sin to teach otherwise.
