I do this same hack, but with greasy foods like fried chicken. I take my glasses off while eating and just smear them all over the chicken. Then, I wipe the grease away on my shirt. This leaves a thin protective coat on my lenses that my pets really enjoy licking when I fall asleep on the couch.

I am a retired ABOC certified optician im here to tell you that putting a petroleum based product on some lens coatings will be a costly mistake.
Most coatings like anti reflective coatings if cleaned with proper products will not fog up anyway.

I've used silicone grease. The kind used on plumbing rubber and plastic parts.

Regular Shaving Cream works great with anti fog on glasss as well on car windows, bathroom mirrors or just about anything you don't want to fog made of glass. Just put a small amount on glass and buff off.

Doesn't vaseline make dust particles stick to the glass easily, making them dirty quickly?

Shaving cream does the same thing. You can put it on your bathroom mirror and wipe it off and then take a hot steamy shower and the mirror won't fog up. Less messy than Vaseline.

Vasoline works best after removing a growth from your skin for a biopsy. Smear the vasoline on the wound for better healing ( check with your doctor first!), THEN put your glasses on. That's how vasoline and eyeglasses should be used together.
