    Nice fish Pal. Good on you. Very proud of you. It will be plain sailing from now on. It is good to change up the way you do things and use different stuff even if the tried and true things still work. I spent 12 yrs in Coastal Oregon and loved the fishing so much. Although I don't live in the States anymore I had a wonderful time fishing with friends and learning the way they go things over there. Many memories made to last a life time. The memory of that first Spring Chinook will last you forever.. Well done. Personally I liked the couple of Spinglows tipped with eggs, sitting on a chair drinking hot coffee and bullshitting with my friends.. Plunking If i have that right... I also watch Angling Addicts Pacific Northwest, because he gets around and fishes some places I used to fish, Makes me feel like I am back there,..

    Nothing tastes better than fresh Springer! Congrats. My first Springer was on the Clack in 99. I remember it like yesterday. Drag adjustments have been covered. I just wanted to let you know that grabbing the rod above the grip while fighting a fish creates a fulcrum on the rod. You will break a rod if you continue to high stick it like that.

I once hooked a 16pound striped bass solo that went air born 3 feet, at the the ump-qua/smith fork. Just a little advice, when the fish goes on a run and is rippin line, I try to let it go. If you tighten the drag or grab your spool to keep it from doing that, your chances of a fish like that braking you off go up ten fold. BUT, it didn’t! So good work and one hell of a springer!

    Nice fish man. I got one just downstream of that spot Memorial Day weekend, so they are there. That spot always has drift boats moving through it, usually they are pretty nice if you’re there first. As far as recipes, lemon, lemon pepper, onion and garlic are always are good. Sometimes I make a glaze with lemon juice, mayo, horseradish, minced garlic, touch of soy sauce and lemon pepper and sliced onions on top, then bake it.

    • @OregonReelFishing
      @OregonReelFishing  2 года назад

      That's awesome! Definitely seems like the run is getting good. I usually use lemon but haven't tried garlic yet, I'll give it a try!

    • @skatinonbilletsk5750
      @skatinonbilletsk5750 2 года назад +1

      They should be nice regardless. Especially if they are in a hole that has bank access, when the whole point of a boat is to get to no bank access areas

    • @disillusioned070
      @disillusioned070 2 года назад +2

      @@skatinonbilletsk5750 Some people in boats honestly have no clue about etiquette. Earlier this year, same river, I was steelhead fishing and a raft was anchored at the top of a hole I went to fish so I walked downstream about 50 yards to the top of the tailout where I knew there was a slot they like to hold in on the far side of the river. Not even ten minutes after I started fishing the raft pulled anchor and floated down to where I was. First on the way down they started long lining down across where I was fishing. I didn't say anything and figured I would just let them be rude and pass on through but to my amazement they stopped and dropped anchor in the exact area I was casting to start my drift. I looked at them and said "Really, You didn't see me casting and fishing there. You anchored right where the fish hold." of course the girl in the boat was the first to get lippy and tell me I didn't own the river and I couldn't tell them what to do. Naturally, all sh*t broke loose after that and basically ended up with me threatening to meet them at the takeout which was only a half mile or so downstream. The guy running the raft picked up and moved on with out ever saying a word while the guy and girl in front kept running their mouths. True to my word, I met them at put in/take out where they never said a word as they floated on by.

    Man what a beautiful fish. Way to grind one out. I would echo some of the other comments here about not tightening the drag and letting the fish run. That’s how you break off more times than not. Glad for you this time was a not. Killer fish and great job!

    • @disillusioned070
      @disillusioned070 2 года назад

      Good advice. The only other thing I would add is do not point the rod at the fish. Keep it at an angle so it can flex and absorb some of the shock the fish is creating.

Most people go lite but, I love the teriyaki style with spicy soy sauce as a brine. I will grill 2-4 pieces all different flavors to figure out what ya like best or to have variety 😋 you’ll be eating well! Food savor them and date em up 😎

    NIce video and congrats on that fat bright springer. It looks like to be a pretty good year in N/W Oregon Coast for Springers.
    A few days ago I was fishing in a small river for springers and on my first cast of the day in this small hole I caught a beautiful 10 lb bright hatchery hen springer. I tried a few more cast and decided to leave the hole alone being so small and try it later. While fishing downstream I told another angler who was using just eggs that I had caught one at the hole up above. He said he tried that hole and nothing, not even a bite. I told him I was going to give it a try again and went up stream about 50 yards to give it a try.
    I was using freshly pumped sandshrimp I pumped myself in Seaside, Necancium Bay. I threaded on a small / medium size sandshrimp just like I did for the other springer. The third cast the bobber went down and the fight was on and landed a bright hatchery buck springer that was at least 12 lbs. I bled the fish out and showed it to the other angler and dressed it out as the hole where I caught was quite steep for easy fish cleaning. That was my limit, 2 fish, and I gave the other fisherman a nice handful of sandshrimp to try.
    I have noticed that springers and fall chinook sometimes will take a smaller bait. Like a 1/0 hook with a sandshrimp tail, or a small / med sandshrimp threaded on the hook. I also have a youtube fishing channel and both fish will later be on video as well.
    Now that you broke the ice it should be a piece of cake to limit out on springers. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

    Hello from Alaska. In my many decades here I have just now started to use bait for river fishing. I usually use a fly rod for all my river and lake fishing. (Imagine catching that chinook or bigger on a fly rod.) Anyway, this was an excellent video and a beautiful fish. Thank you for posting this video.
    Recipe suggestion: I make fish and chips using cod, halibut and/or salmon (chinook, coho or sockeye). I prefer salmon this way over other methods of cooking it (unless I’m making a dip). I recently started using a batter from a RUclips video: Binging with Babish: Fish Fingers & Custard. However, I use a dark ale instead of the light lager. For me is seems to work better with the salmon. It may not be the healthiest but it sure tastes good and is worth trying at least once.

      @@OregonReelFishing when I fished for king salmon decades ago, coastal southern California, we set the drag at a minimum because their mouths were considered soft. But, fishing streams with snags probably makes it more stressful watching them peel line. Using braided line in such situations was a good call. It paid off well with that big boy.
      imo, Smoked salmon is pretty much the all time favorite, from my experiences talking and sharing a plate or two. Even non anglers that like salmon really cherish it.
      thank you for recording and sharing this experience. I like to think vids like this really make us all feel grateful and proud to live in America, considering the environmental and human conditions around the world today. There is a whole down below that bridge on the corner that holds way more fish. That's my favorite river and area to fish.

    shallots garlic and lemon mixed with some mayo and dill, slather that on top and cook on the grill until cooked, if you like capers they go really well with it too
