I always like how you get inspired by bands from the 80s and how you let them flow into your style of play Espen. Nice one with the Lofi at the end,it gives a special touch! The chords and your influences in Part 1 were an Inspiration too! Thanks again and keep it up! ;-)
I really loved how the song turned out in the end and there was a ton of great information on how to manipulate the DAW and getting that signature 80s sound. Keep up the great content!
I like that Sequence turning left to right and back ,it gives a interesting listening experience. The whole song sounds typically Espen Kraft 80s style and I like that kind of sound
Thanks! I don't compose from pre-written lyrics. I only write my music and lyrics at the same time, even if I change out some words later, and add more.
Came back to see your follow up (in progress) and I listened to the finished piece. Wow, out of all those bands you listed, you must be a rabid fan of Pet Shop Boys. this one is heavy on Petshop Boys, even the lyrics and the intonation is there. On the former video this song sounded more like an Elton John song, here it’s in electro disco mode. I stand corrected on my former comments about the end of the chorus. I wouldn’t have personally written it that way, but it does sound like the type of pause or slow down Pet Shop Boys would have at the end of a chorus (usually with big reverb) before dropping back in. Stay Actually my friend
I'm always getting compared to PSB. I'm used to it. With my voice and preferred sound it's inevitable, but that's ok. I've always been drawn to the brit synth-pop tradition, but as I also do music for games, ads and other visuals I have many other styles as well. I have lots of music online on the streaming platforms. ;-)
Thanks for finishing this 2 part video, very interesting, it maybe interesting to see how you use effects and how you finalise your tracks before you submit them to Distrokid etc
@@EspenKraft I've been extremely disenchanted with the current sound in today's world. I strongly believe that the 80's sounds will step back on the scene in a big way... And I'm going to help do my part as well but I have a lot more studying of your work to do. Keep up the good work and like you said in another video "I'm not looking to the future I'm looking to the 80's"👍🏾
The result is excellent, although personally, I would make another version not so eighties, because the sound of the bass is too old, and the voices are little heard in relation to the keyboards. But I understand the idea and it does have a certain vintage feel to it... The song is really good!!!
You are correct that the RUclips compression etc. diminishes the impact of that Lo Fi track, could you provide the title or link of your videos where you show how to do that please?
Very valuable information in this series, Espen, you are terrific! I do have a stupid question, though: Being you said the intent of this piece is commercial-driven- if you had taken it to a major studio, would you be the one at the helm of the board or would you trust the audio engineer to man the recording (being that you know very well what sounds you want in the song and how they should play out). Just curious...
Many thanks! Today and for the last 30 years, I've would never let anyone produce or mix my music. I would say no to any record deal demanding me to give up 100 % creative control. As a 20 year old in 1989 I simply would have given that up to make a record deal. ;-)
I'm a fairly new follower, so forgive me if you've answered this: I see you use Nuendo as your DAW and you have Reaper on your bar as well. What do you look for in a DAW and what do you think of Reaper?
My main DAW has been this old version of Nuendo for a long time. To do what I do, I basically don't need modern software at all. But since I'm also hired to do commercial work I sometimes need to install and use modern plugins or software that require a 64 bit system and Reaper was the cheapest and easiest way of getting access to those plugins and add-ons necessary for me to work. I don't use it much except as a host. The few times I have used it in a more elaborate way (because I HAD too more than WANTED to) it has worked very well and I have a good experience with it. On Nuendo however, I have all my custom key commands and muscle memory so I will never abandon that unless I really have to.

I just purchased it on Amazon so I can listen to it while sitting at my Computer or in my car. Nice song ,well done
Really enjoyed your song writing lesson. Thanks Espen 👍
Many thanks Greg!
Thanks for sharing your ideas always helps
Happy you think so. :D
I love 80's music❤️
Needs more cowbell! ;)
Never enough cowbell. :P
I have a fever...
Nej. More claps needed .
When you need to dip into your 80s bath, Espen is like 80s bath salts!
Cheers!
Great lesson, thank you Espen Kraft!
Many thanks!
Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks! :D
Another great tutorial. It would be interesting to see you compose and arrange a song from pre-written lyrics.
Thanks! I don't compose from pre-written lyrics. I only write my music and lyrics at the same time, even if I change out some words later, and add more.
Suena muy bien como siempre... Excelente...

Thanks Damon! I have plenty of videos where I show the mixing process. The only thing I've never showed is how I master my (and others) tracks.
@@EspenKraft Maybe make a video about mastering, that would make a great video, I'd watch, and I'm sure 1000s would as well!
Really enjoy this Espen. Great job. Will you do (or have you done) a video where you talk about what preamps you run your synths through?
Thanks! I have sort of done that in my SSL SiX videos, if you check them you'll see how I've basically recorded my stuff for the last year. ;-)
Thank you, comrade Espen
Loving your work.
Thanks man!

Very interesting and also very inspiring. Thank you! :)
Thanks! :D
love it!

Great happy simple priceless times!! 🙌🏻🎶 🐄 🛎 ❤️⚡️💯🎉👏🏻

I like to see some day an all-MIDI song editing and recording via a real mixer to see how it's done that way.
I don't use very much MIDI at all. Most parts are played by hand. I will show something like that in a later video though. I have something lined up.
Beautiful song. Good A-ha style voice.
how very weird, i also have drums red; bass blue; guitars green; but the synths i have pink!
It's all because of how I see instruments, in color. You too I assume.

You can check out this video at around 24:00. Cheers

I usually send my bass and drums to a stereo bus where I balanced the primary rhythm.
That'll work. ;-)
Cool video. 🔥🔥🔥
Cheers! :D
What if you add distortion to the Juno bass to make it cut through rather than doubling with the Casio?
No, forget it. Not the same and especially not on pop. ;-)

Para que sirve la parte lofi. Lo sé. Pero como la mezclas????
I explain it more here:

Did I understand corect, the pad coming from background is a JX8P?
That's correct.
@@EspenKraft it's the king of pads for sure!
Which sounds do you use?
I go through that in the video.

Why the date is 01.01.2005 ?
Motherboard BIOS has empty battery. So this computer is always defaults to that time and date. ;-)
I'm surprised you're not using a motherboard that defaults to 1985. :D
I REMEMBER PET SHOP BOYS ;)
💪🏻🧠👍🏻
lofi is too subtle to be heard, which is a bummer
Yeah, the RUclips compression does that. I show it in other videos though, even more.
Great video. Really interesting and educational. I picked up some great tips 👌
Many thanks! :D
