i kinda hate most synthwave remixes. they are never high quaility and distorted. they often soynd like someone just played over a song. the orginal underneath. once in a while they are high quaility properly layered in. thanks for the tutorial which shows some clues on how to do it right
Anders is phenomenally talented, amazing remix, well done to you both. Great presentation too. Is Anders the same guy that has collaborated with 8-bit guy=
Woody Piano Shack Thanks mate! Glad to hear that you like it. Been following your channel for the last year or so, very amusing and entertaining stuff. And yes, I’ve been collaborating with The 8-Bit Guy for the last two years. ;)
Espen what have you done to me? I'm walking around singing "why so shy" everywhere, people keep asking me which song it is. I've never been hooked lately to a song like this :) You're my man, my aspiration.
Thanks! This is not a collaboration as such, Anders did all this on his own with no creative input from me except I gave him the stems for the original track. It's a great remix though! :)
Amazing tutorial and a heck of a talent Anders is. On another note, to my taste, I prefer your version. The final remix, although brilliantly done is more on the 90s side of the spectrum which is not my favourite dance music era. There is a raw aspect of 80s synth pop that is extremely seductive to the senses. Regardless, Anders is unbelievably talented!!!! :)
Amazing! And he used a jd800, a synth with beautifull sounds, especially the strings and pads and a pleasure to play and tweak with it. Nice remake and useful tutorial anyway...
Hey Espen! I bought a Yamaha DX7-II recently and I'd like to learn how to produce 80s music. 80s and 90s music is really something special for me and I think I can make huge things with this powerful instrument. I made a huge step since the only gear I had until DX7 was Yamaha PSR-series keyboard. Your videos are really helpful and I always enjoy watching your videos.
Great song! Very interesting to watch. Very good mix. Would like to be able to create such a nice song in my home studio as well and would be very proud if I could, but neither do I have the ideas for a song like this nor am I good instrumentalist and singer. Congrats to this overwhelming work.
Maybe not a physical collaboration as such, but we've definitely collaborated in SPIRIT when it came to Anders' interpretation making this remix as it's just I would have liked to make it myself ;-)
Wow, what a cool collaboration! I have tons of respect for the both of you, so this was an awesome thing to watch! Both versions are terrific. Great work to the both of you!
Great track, and interesting to see how others go about their workflow - *this remixing thing could really catch on !!* :-) Another thumbs-up. Best Regards, Axel.

I'm from Norway, can't get it here either, but a store in Sweden imports it from the US so I get it there. I live right on the border between Norway and Sweden.
I assume you mean the drums of the remix and for those you should check out the full tutorial on Anders' RUclips page as he goes through all the sounds there :)
Do you mean the monitors I use or the monitors seen in Anders' tutorial? I use only M-Audio BX5's and I've used them for over 15 years now. I used to mix on the Yamaha NS-10, and I did that for years, but I switched to the BX5's around 2003 and I'm very happy with them.
Anders, you really need to calm down with all of the layers, compression and vocoder, I believe it loses the simplistic 80s synthpop charm of the original. I think this is an overwhelming soundscape and not quite as bubbly as the original, though this hard compressed feeling is popular within synthwave.
Well, maybe I should have been clearer about it being something closer to the 90s rather than pure 80s, but I figured since the 80s was so much variety, people would look past this little quirk. Plus, me doing a perfect replica of Espen’s style and sound would kinda negate the entire purpose. (I’d also like to point out that the only compression is the medium CD mastering I’ve applied. I don’t like the pumping sound everybody else seem to slap on their productions. ;))

Very good making of - Espen!

Catchy tune Herr Kraft and super production skillz from AEJ, Old Kid Jensen?
Thanks! Yes, Jensen did the remix and guest tutorial. ;-)
The bass layering, it's absolutely perfect for the 80's and well as that gated snare.
What a fantastically useful tutorial! Anders, please do more of these!
The great spirit is strong with these two notdic geniusses.
Reminiscent of late 80s dance/pop man oh man what quality production. Love your synths too.

Hi Espen
Glad I was one of those people that said it was a great song!
Thanks Micheal, I appreciate that :)
Genius. Love the bubbly scales that run up at the end of the phrases. The drums and bass turned everything into a fresh dance beat.
Amazing! And he used a jd800, a synth with beautifull sounds, especially the strings and pads and a pleasure to play and tweak with it. Nice remake and useful tutorial anyway...

this and the original is better than 90% of what is released these days
JD800 ♥
Shut I'd buy it.
Reminds me of the pet Shop boys
melody reminds me of porter robinson & madeon - shelter
Cloudmaker Hehe, yeah I know.. I didn’t mean for it, but it just happened when playing with the voice samples. Marvellous song by Porter. 💖
Hey Espen, can you tell me what those monitors are?? I use Yamaha NS10's but I think I might get new ones.

Cant find any midi files in the download :-(
schnibbelkram Look again: «MIDIFILE So Shy (feat. Espen Kraft).mid» :)
Sounds very PWL. VERY cool. Was this intentional?
Let's see if Anders will answer that one. ;-)
I can see, you use apple, so is this DAW Logic Pro X?
SiiliViin I use MOTU Digital Performer 8.5. A bit old school now, but it works for me.
ZIP files??? It's only ARC or LZH/LHA for me. ;-)
Ha-ha.
The files are actually just an open dropbox folder so you won’t need to unzip or un-LHA anything ;)
Huh, someone is actually still using Digital Performer.
I use a DAW more than 10 years old and it beats the crap out of anything new ;-)
Mike Bruschke 😂 Yes, I’m weird that way.
Sounds like The pet shop boys
I find the remix a bit too overcomplicated. The simplicity of the original is more interesting.
Thanks for watching and commenting :)
give this song to 8 bit guy
Sponsored by Fanta and he makes pop music 🤣

I think this is an overwhelming soundscape and not quite as bubbly as the original, though this hard compressed feeling is popular within synthwave.
It's the whole idea. Maybe it's made to recreate a late 80's feel.
Make it 12', please!!!
@@venomslair137 it's not a late 80s feel, this is what I mean.. it's too modern and produced for the aesthetic
