This takes me back to real golf, persimmon woods, balata ball, steel shaft and Watson, Palmer, Player and Nicklaus, along with Trevino, Miller, Ballesteros, and others really made the game fun to watch Jack was runner up in 19 majors and won 18, an incredible record! Palmer the reason the prize money is where it is today!

Super Mex, wow what a ball striker & what a competitor...have you heard the story of him playing Ray Floyd when he ran a driving range...its brilliant...
Super Mex was known to win big dollar heads-up matches playing the entire round with an oversized Dr. Pepper bottle which required being an excellent ball striker and competitior....as the only golf hustler better known in Texas was Titanic Thompson
Loved these. I've started playing persimmons and old blade irons again probably 90% of the time 4 or 5 yrs ago and It has made golf so much more fun. I started with persimmons and my old a$$ is gonna die playing persimmon! Let's go!
I'm an iron man: 1-9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge & 2 putters. I do have a persimmon driver that has a golden bear club head cover. I've nicknamed myself "Tarzan" while on the golf course because I was always "swinging in the trees".

We at Ima Sportsphile have been waiting for a very long time....since the glory days of Palmer, Nicklaus, Player, Watson, Trevino, Ballesteros, Floyd, Norman, Strange and Stewart....for a period in golf that could even rival the days when these guys were gracing the PGA....for the era of Woods and Michelson certainly did not compare....but, maybe just maybe....we may be entering a new era of Johnson, Speith, Thomas, Day, McElroy, Stenson, Matsuyami, Rahm, Fowler, Koepka and Berger that just might bring us what we've been waiting on for all these many years.
And he played in the greatest era of golf of all time....for there were so many other great golfers who drove him to greatness....which Tiger never had....only a domineering dad.
Beautiful footwork. I love the raising of the left foot to promote a weight transfer. And at 1:36:27 18th hole playing to win $240,000(equals about $500,000 these days) and nailing the putt. There are very good reasons why the Golden Bear became a legend of golf and the all-time greatest. He could drive for show and putt for dough. He could knock flag sticks down with irons. Only weakness was around the greens with chipping and pitching. But that was because he spent most of his time landing on the green. Jack did not spend a lot time having to pitch and chip.
This is 1984 and Watson didnt win another PGA event until 1996 or 12 years. He admitted he had a drinking problem. He won the 1987 TOUR Championship under a special exemption, but they would not let him come back the following year to defend. I really believe losing a chance to win The Open at St Andrews earlier that year to Seve really wrecked him. Tom basically told that story to David Feherty years later.
Watson was at the top of his game and the rest were well past their prime, Watson had a huge advantage. On the first hole shown Palmer hits a 7 iron from 145 but with today’s jacked up lofts a 9 iron would have the same loft.
SPUDS CARY, thanks for your comment....for all that you said is true....but what excites us at ImaSportsphile is that we could bring this incredible vintage video of "golf's highest royalty" playing a skins game against each other.....as we call it MUST SEE TV!!!
@@rociosuastegui5673 It was still for the time a great show to have these great players compete against the best player on the PGA tour who was Tom Watson. Player played very well, Arnold was injured they said and didn’t play very well, and Watson putted great, but Jack was clutch as always.
He also has enough money to buy his own jet at this point. Also consider that 240k would be do be roughly 610k when u account for inflation. A couple of people earn that every week now. So most of this tension you feel is mainly driven by the commentators.

Actually Jack's last solid year was 1978. He won 2 majors in 1980 but otherwise was not good and after 1978 only won 5 more tournaments. At age 38 he was at 68 wins and finished at 73. Take away his 3 majors in 1980 and 1986 and he won 2 golf tournaments after 1978. Jack was not the old Jack! He admitted I was terrible in 1980 except for the US Open and PGA and admitted I was terrible in 1986 and had a magical Sunday at Augusta. After 1986 and the Masters, Jack was a disaster!
