  • Mercury 115 Pro XS with 36 hours fails after Mercury serviced and "fixed" it for the exact same problem. The engine will stumble out and quit after the boat gets on plane. It will restart and runs just above idle and can push the boat at 6mph max.
    24 June - My buddy who owns the boats says that Mercury replaced the fuel sending unit under warranty and it's working fine now. About $1100 in parts and labor if not covered by warranty.

    Check the float inside the VST. It may be too shallow. And also the vent hose, inside; Check and clean carefully. Also take a peek inside the low pressure fuel pump. If there is a diaphram, make sure it doesn't creak/crinkle when flexed; Needs to be rubbery. If not, replace it. There are many variations in fuel systems, over the last 20 years. I'm trying to be as general as possible here. Good luck. 👍

    Hello I have a problem with my Mercury 115 ct. Up to 3500 rpm it works normally, then the boat doesn't accelerate until I reach 5000 rpm. The turns increase as a result of the rumble, but the boat does not move. From 5000 onwards it accelerates and glides, but the consumption is at each speed, about 600 rpm less. The engine roar and the revolutions indicated by the instrument coincide. The speed and consumption coincide (almost) with what I did before. However, between these two data there is a difference of over 600 rpm. It is as if the engine does not deliver the power of 600/1000 rpm. These revs then appear at maximum revs, where I reach 6100 instead of 5400 as before. I checked the flexible coupling and replaced all the fuel filters, I used additives and updated the ECU. There are no errors or alarms. Can anyone help me please? Thanks in advance

    Check to make sure your fuel tank is venting properly. I’ve seen in the past where the vent will get stuck closed and cause the same issue.

    Also you bulb may have felt a little soft. When you squeeze it the sound would go away. I switch out the throttle position sensor and and the shift position sensor as well only because smart craft was throwing that code. I do feel like it I would of extracted all of my fuel out from my tank I would have solved my issue.

      The boat side looks good. The high pressure fuel pump was previously replaced under warranty and the motor ran fine for about 10-15 hours before the same problem pooped back up. Boat is back at the dealer for more warranty repair now that hopefully will solve the problem.

      Check the air vent on the the tank, seems to run good just long enough to pull a vacuum on the system. This can cause premature failure of the fuel pump as well...

    As folks on here have said, it's a fuel issue. Your boat has a tank vent plugged. Check the fuel bulb when it quits running to see if it's collapsed. Once you get it figured out, take a class on how to trim your outboard.

    • @brian8793
      @brian8793  Год назад +5

      It ended up getting a fuel pump replaced under warranty and some of the lines redone. Main issue was not a plugged vent but a fuel line that allowed air to be pulled in under load. Outboard trim was not the priority when we were messing with the motor.

    They are overengineered then underproduced with cheap parts in too many places. I am too young to say "they don't make em like they used to" but they really don't. I just stick to old 2 strokes. They can be had for dirt cheap, are easy to work on and tons of replacement parts and besides fuel economy are superior in every way to new 4 strokes. Blame the EPA, blame mercury whatever. I think this era will be known as the "plastic age" in 50 years and people will laugh.

      It's starving for fuel. That's it. Has nothing to do with being overly complicated. Old school carbureted two stroke outboards can starve for fuel just like any other outboard.
      By the way, overly complicated is what you should have typed. Over engineered implies that a product is built to exceed bare minimum quality.
