    Yes since you were working for the government and the government was paying you it's effectively a benefit.

      School is free. You just need to slightly apply yourself. The amount of scholarships that are given away is astounding.

    Same here. Still owed $200k after paying through my career, started out at $47k with sign on bonus; worked at the VA and a public hospital 14 years, all gone!

    Yes, you were forgiven 350k ...but in reality within the last ten years as a doctor you could have made millions and changed the lives of many people around you. However, you chose the income based plan with serious income restrictions . Not sure if I should smile or cry. In any event, congratulations and best of wishes.

    $50,000 for residency, working 80/yrs a week average is $12.02/hour… that’s straight up LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE after you adjust for inflation from the $7.25/hr from 2009 purchasing power.
    The system takes that of indentured servitude.

      Agreeeeeeeeeee!! Nobody ever tells you that or dies the math. Plus the long sleepless nights plus exposure to all the freaking germs AnD COVID. It is exhausting!

      Its also a training program needed to become a boarded physician and make those big salaries so yes its indentured servitude but not unlike other job training programs (many are unpaid). Heck as a cadet at a service academy, I made $80 a month take home... where did that put me on the hourly schedule and 12 hour days were normal there too.

    Congratulations. I think situations such as yours make sense for the government as you were working at an actual government hospital... the ones I take some issue with is the non profit PSLF since most medical practices and hospitals are under the non profit tax shield... however they end up acting very much like a for profit.

    Congratulations! 🎉 I’m curious, do you not now owe taxes on your forgiven loans? I’ve recently heard that forgiven loans are still subject to taxation each year on the forgiven amount unless you’re considered insolvent or partially insolvent. 🤔

    • @pickmeisha
      @pickmeisha 11 месяцев назад +2

      If he did PSLF no, taxes are not assessed.

    Here’s the Issue. 400k into most other business will increase your income by 20-40k a year and it’ll compound exponentially.
    Put 400k into medical school and you will increase your salary by maybe that much when you average it out. But it’s compounded linearly.

    $50,000 for 120 hours is less than $4 per hour. Doctors make LESS than minimum wage in this country!

    I feel like depending on the occupation there may be some assistance after the first 4 because you need to have a reason to not go to school after high school if you want the ground level jobs that are needed to support the higher level jobs and it gives the people who are smarter and can earn scholarships more reason to go and use there smarts

      @@Sinvullz you mean like it would be if the government didn't give out loans so everyone can pay 15k+ a year so universities might lose students by charging 15k+ a year. That would lower prices overnight.
