the kid has a passion & a mentor at his young age, his mother should be finding ways to compromise and teach him to manage fishing and studies, not outright ban him from what seems like his passion in life
indeed, u need money to hve a hobby. she didnt realize how lucky she was to hve a young son who have ambition&know what he want to b growing up. some kid wanna b a musician, its just d same. she only need to develop his dream in every direction so he can benefit. like being a professional in fish/sea world like a fisherman or scientist or vet doc etc related to sea creature. she should support him. its not like he do bad thing. he speak well. im sure his mother will not easily gonna change. look like she hve high hope for him since he is older
plus it doesnt look like they hve money problem since both parent r working & d kids activity mostly support by d grandma. if d mother stick to her no-fishing, he might b stressed&rebel
