    Patrick, you have been my favorite online truth-dispenser for years now. I am so happy I can listen to your commentary and interviews again.
    I have gotten push-back from friends on multiple occasions for showing my wariness of the Jordan Peterson phenomenon. I appreciate what you have said here and honing specifically on the problems with the attachment to a Jungian worldview. I have all the patience in the world with him thoughtfully considering joining the Fold, but when you start giving Jungian-influenced interpretations of Scripture to an entire generation of uncatechized folks the standard dramatically changes.

    I believe JP is confusing Catholics and Christians. There have been a couple of interviews of JP where the host tried to pin him down on the question of his beliefs and he doges the question of whether or not he believes Christ is the messiah . Rather than answering the question, he instead goes into a philosophical or psychological explanation-never acknowledging that Christ actually existed, not as a concept , but as the actual son of God. A Protestant country singer directly but very politely point blank confronted JP about his beliefs and the hosts of Avoiding Babylon completely denounced the Protestant. They ridiculed him and accused him of having a low IQ. The problem with JO is his alignment with the Catholic Church. His wife and daughter are recent converts and he often appears with Johnathan Pageau , who is well known and is either a Catholic or Orthodox. JP sounds much more like a gnostic and has reduced Christianity to some kind of psychological theory rather than what we , as Christians, truly believe. It appears that people are blinded by his reputation as an intellectual genius, however, he completely misses the truth while simultaneously preaching the necessity to orient yourself to “the truth”. The words he uses in his analysis of Christianity are concerning. He says things like “ the greater good “, “ call to adventure “, he uses the phrase “the divine” but not in the context we understand divinity as it relates to Christianity or Catholics . It reminds me of the New Age stuff. That type of ideology is insidious and seems harmless at first , but it inevitably leads to occultism. There appears to be some good that may be attributed to his exploration into Christianity. He has appeared on some some high profile platforms hosted by very influential people who later converted to Catholicism . Other influential individuals who were outspoken critics of Christians seem to have backed off their insulting remarks and harsh criticisms about Christianity. They seem to accept this intellectualized interpretation of Christianity . I think the appeal to this Peterson ideology stems from this detachment and no acceptance of Jesus. Peterson himself never acknowledges the reality of Christ nor the necessity that you accept , believe , and follow Christ. His religion is merely another, albeit more sophisticated, self help, pop psychology , feel good , book that centers on self. Believe me , I’ve read enough to recognize those types of books and they never offer you what you truly need- which is Christ. I really don’t know exactly what to make of JP and his affiliation with our bishops, priests , and the Catholic Church. Maybe God has a plan and is using him; however, many Christians have expressed these same concerns. I would advise people to be cautious about him.

      No it is 'Christians' that think to believe in Christ is something that you simply have to say and claim that you believe in Christ Jesus means that you are a follower of him.
      There has only ever been one Christian ever to live, and he died upon the Cross, this 'christianity' what is taught in the Catholic Church by the brainwashed is not the true teaching and message of the Christ Lord Jesus of Nazareth.

      If you don't understand the terms 'greater good' 'call to adventure' 'divine' 'truth' that is your lack of capability to understand the Biblical corpus.

    So spot on Patrick. This was really great and insightful. I tried watching this interview 2-3 weeks ago and it made me feel unsettled and I couldn't get through it all. Peterson recently had an interview with Bill Maher who made some obviously false claims that Paterson was unable to refute, he offered almost no push back and seemed more interested in repairing his image with Bill Maher fans than speaking truth. He wears Christianity as a skin suit and should be listened to with caution. He's not an ally.

    I watch the occasional interview Peterson does (maybe 1 every 2 months). I did see part of the interview with zena. To be fair Peterson is a psychologist and thats the mode the interview was in.
    As a catholic i have no problem with his Jungian leanings, but if he were into Freud i would consider him unfit to introduce the spiritual or metaphysical into his work. Now there is nothing wrong with the metaphysical lens and i dont think any Jungian psychologist would take on Jung's particular personal beliefs on these things. For one nobody would really know what they are, and secondly its not particularly important what his personal thoughts were. Anyway, what I'm saying is you cant condemn Jung's overall insight simply because he wasn't a Catholic. Any Catholic scholar or student of Jung wouldnt need it spelled out to them that he wasn't Christian and its reflected in his work to some extent.
    Getting back to the interview with Zena, I did notice he kept a certain distance. He could have lightened things up a bit, but he didn't want to show much familiarity with her which is understandable from a psychological stance.
    I do have one criticism of Peterson though. He does divide men and women up to the point where you would think they had almost nothing in common, and added to that, the space he gives to his idea of a what a woman is, is extremely narrow. He sees women as just manipulators whether it be for good or as he mostly appears to be saying, just for ill.
    So his wife is a catholic, and it would therefore take alot of humility on his behalf to show to the world that his wife (a woman) lead him on the most important direction of his life.
    Peterson would literally have to come out and defer to a woman.
    Consider this, maybe he is already a Catholic but as any psychologist worth their profession, he wouldn't play the game of been forced into publically justifying himself. No offence to you Mr Coffin, but that would be giving in to bullies.

    My research indicates that Jungian theory cannot be successfully incorporated into historic Catholicism/ Christianity. And its associated psychotherapy cannot be integrated into historic Catholic/Christian practice. This is because it represents an attempt at a total psychological worldview, seemingly without a theistic transcendent goal. @@Slaughter013I disagree, fundamentally because personality disorders are drawn to using religion as a “smoke shield” for their personality defects.
      I had a relative that was very disordered and traumatized all of her children, yet to the Church she was so well revered that The late Fulton Sheen would come over for dinner on many occasions, and local priests would regularly have Mass performed within her home. Now, this is not to impugn Fulton Sheen nor any other priests, but this woman held the “air” of religiosity while privately mocking God with her egotistical and selfish nature, which she hid so well from the public eye. Everyone she met at church would say she’s “on her way to sainthood”.
      This woman raised a full blown malignant narcissist (a lawyer, too), who ended up cheating on his now ex-wife, divorced her, and then used Canon Law in the annulment to make sure she could never re-marry back into the Catholic faith, and then spent the rest of his days hiding in his mothers house to avoid paying child support for over a decade while he spent his money on alcohol, only fans, and prostitution.
      You know who defended her son to the point of shielding him from all legal AND moral repercussions? The same woman who had Fulton Sheen over for dinner, and had priests regularly conduct Mass in her home.
      The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist, and personality disorders LOVE religion when it suits their agenda and social standing.
      So no, psychology is very necessary in the pursuit of truth. The only problem is that true psychology has been corrupted by relativism, and God should be the final answer, not oneself, but it doesn’t negate the power of therapy if God has not condemned the practice like He does the occult.

      @@PatrickCoffinShowClips Because Jungian gnostic teachings are diametrically opposed to Christ's teachings. It is Freemasonry (witchcraft) for the masses. The entire field of psychology is based on this. It is all gnostic and alchemical sorcery. Christ and the Holy Bible is literally ALL one needs to live a good life, this means by obeying the commandments and submit to the One True Living God. There is nothing in psychology that can even remotely mimick anything compared to this. No '12 rules for life' comes even near to following Jesus. Plus: Jesus hands out miraculous healings, casts out demons. Psychology is not at all casting out demons, it is 'befriending them', like the Buddists do. The demons will take it easy for a while but then come back worse. Jesus says, when He heals a soul to 'Sin no more, lest worse things come to you'. This is the core of healing of souls. And psychology and analysis was thought up by people who hated Christ and were in love with sin, and seeked hard to find ways of 'salvation', healing, without having to look at sin (and the devil). They do not offer anything in the very end but take souls to hell.
      Psalm 1 explains why:
      Psalms 1 (KJV)
      Blessed is the man
      that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
      nor standeth in the way of sinners,
      nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
      But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
      and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
      And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
      that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
      his leaf also shall not wither;
      and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
      The ungodly are not so:
      but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
      Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
      nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
      For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
      but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
      The Bible is literally the manual for your soul and not only for yourself but for harmony amongst all other human beings, not only for now, but for eternity. No godless sorcery, aka psychology, can EVER compete with the divine wisdom and revelation of Our Lord.

      @@PatrickCoffinShowClips I probably expressed myself imprecisely. I meant in the sense that he will have to accept that some things he has taught others and considers part of his philosophy (to which he has dedicated a lot of effort and time throughout his career) are challenged by Catholicism, and he will need to change his mind on that to become a Catholic. I would compare it to the rich man in the Bible whom Jesus asked to give up his wealth, except here it's about his philosophical system, not wealth. I’m not judging him, of course. I truly wish him all the best.

  • @Kurtofon
    @Kurtofon Месяц назад

    I think we have to be lenient with Mr Peterson I think he has two things braking his full meeting and embrace with Christ. I think the first one is that Verbally, and Intelectually he is brilliant which means his path in Jesus will be harder since he has to humble himself even more.
    Second is I think despite what you say he is closer to Jesus than you think, , I look at him like a bridge between intellectuals, normal people and strong believer and to be that he has to hit all parts of that spectrum at the same time, if he dwelves I think hia fear is thatbif dwelves to deep into faith that he no longer has the means to connect with intellectuals and normal people and loses his way to lead them to Christ.
    I think God has a plan for him and I think our job as Christians is to not assume too much about his faith but rather look onto our own faiths, because Jordan is showing us trough his actions what it means to be Christians, and I actually think we are hypocritikal if we critizise him for not being or doing what we want.
    I agree that he coudld have given 1% more sceptisism of the guest in this interview but I also think he has a long term plan of helping her, seeing her more times, and being judgmental towards is not neccasarily the best approach then.

    Interesting how there is only one path to Christ, which seems to be the one each who judges have taken. Perhaps what saved him from his initial difficulties was knowledge of how the brain actually works, and for some people, it is difficult to simply embrace: their path is different from yours.
    There is a story on Levey's death from the minister who rescued his other daughter. It is a miracle, if in fact it is true. Perhaps some research (or experience) in one thing leads to insight that one couldn't come upon without the other.
    My last thought, besides the fact that one should know thy enemy, is that JP was not a believer when i first learned of him. He fought his corrupt Canadian govt for freedom of speech for All. He would not give in, even when they threatened to strip him of his "worldly accolades". He did not give in when the media tried to cancel him and make a mockery of him. And he did all of this while trying to find Jesus. Have you also seen the interviews of those who seemed to have listened to the urging of Jesus to help him on his journey? His "word salad" is his honesty! He doesnt hide his thoughts or try to deceive----THAT, my friends is actually "word salad".
    As a Christian, we are guided to pray. We do NOT Know another man's heart, which is why we are strongly directed not to judge. But we do know how to pray. If your discernment leads you to believe that someone is unworthy of salvation, then quickly move on and withhold your prayers until you find one worthy of them. As for me, i will pray that I may serve God half as much as what Jordan Peterson has done by the Lives he has saved, the relationships he has helped mend, the mental anguish he has helped SO MANY battle to claim victory.
    Let not Evil continue to hide in the shadows, convincing people he does not exist. Maybe giving a "platform" is actually bringing to the open, so those who didnt once know but now do that there is a battle truly going on. God bless you, Jordan Peterson, on your journey to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior ❤

    Jordan Peterson has had a bunch of opportunities to say he knows Jesus or at least that he knows Jesus is God or to say ANYTHING!
    He's a silly , long winded , librarian, who doesn't know Jesus.
    He doesn't believe there's a God , so he can't see that there's a devil.
    No one cares for my opinions ,but I'll tell you why I don't think this guy is so smart:
    Einstein said that if you understand something, you can explain it to an eight year old boy.
    Just imagine an 8 year old boy alone with Jordan Peterson for a couple of hours. What do YOU think that kid is going to be able to tell you about what Jordan told him ?
    REALLY, what's an 8 year old kid going to learn from his long, drawn out , thoughts on any subject???

      It is not a historical document f.y.i. the Bible is not a book based on 100% actual events that happened in the Physical world.
      That the end of the passion story is not Crucifixion, it is the Resurrection, and what it symbolises in us, that we must and can be reborn again and again in this life, burning away the parts of us which are not worthy.
      Christ says himself, 'ONLY GOD IS GOOD.
      NO MAN IS GOOD BY HIS OWN MERIT.'
      And we are not worthy of the gift of Eternal life, nobody can attain heaven by their own means and acts'
