This is the most coincidental thing that's happened to me in a while, but I actually built a filter very similar to this today before you uploaded! Now it won't keep sucking up my fish in my pond, hence why I re-built it. I used a smaller container, but drilled holes in the sides and top and added filter media just like your own filter.

I am going to use your DIY filter video to build a new filter for my 150 gal tub. I need to boost the filtration hardcore. My four Terrapins produce so much more waste than I anticipated! Their turds look like a small cat turd before they start to break down in the water flow!!!

Actually, the best way to do a barrel filter is to run the intake to the bottom and have it filter up like a bog filter.

What size tote and pump would you recommend for submerging in a 100 or 110 gallon stock tank from Tractor Supply? We are building an outdoor pond for our RES. The tank will sit on a handful of cinder blocks. But I too don't want an elevated filter.

Were you concerned about lava rock particles getting into the water pump, maybe put a mesh cover over the inlet for the pump?

Hi Dan, Need one quick advice from you. I have 2 Red-eared Sliders(male and female) both are 1 year old. they are staying in the aquarium. I have noticed that from the past 5 days my male turtle has stopped eating and he is very active. and his tank temp is around 28 degrees celsius. I have taken him out of his tank and put under the plastic container and surrounded him with cloths and towels. but he is not showing any symptoms of R.I. he is so agitated and whenever I put him in his tank he splashes around and wants to come out. I have no idea what medicine I can give him. and there are no vets around specific to turtles. can you help

Nice filter. But a 2400GPH pump for a 300G pond is a bit overkill, don't you think? I am running a 1300GPH in a 375G pond and I think it's fine. What size diameter is the tubing?

Definitely overkill but I'm happy to for keeping turtles. Also, I'm confident it won't cause issues because the pump is enclosed, so no drownings!

Can I use the same pool water that's in my new pool for both pink bellied sidenecks and DBT if they aren't in the pool together? Or do I need to change the water for each species? 90 gallons.

Nope, there is no acid in cement blocks. They're an inert material once cured!
