    Retired ATC here. Please do not overreact to the situation of one ATCS working aircraft on two different frequencies simultaneously. This is not NECESSARILY unsafe or unusual in the air traffic operations environment. Even if all aircraft were on the same frequency, it does not mean the midair would have been avoided.
    Also, air traffic staffing has been an issue since 1981 ATC Strike & subsequent firing by Reagan.
    It is well known in aircraft investigations, most often a number of small things, any one of which happening in isolation would have been inconsequential, when put in just the right sequence, build together to result in horrible tragedy. NTSB NEEDS to be ALLOWED to do what it does best: methodical, thorough investigation that is unhurried and unimpeeded.

      At some point last night while jumping around trying to get solid info, someone mentioned fact that UH60 may not have had 'newest' avionics tech onboard (paraphrasing) so I went away thinking that perhaps they had to manually flip over to VHF, UHF or FM if need be. Is there any chance of that being possible or do all acft need to have something like latest avionics/radio capablities etc?

    I highly recommend getting the straight answers on the from the Pilot Debrief Channel by Hoover instead of the media.

    of course they can not hear each other, Military operate on Encrypted frequencies

    • @deanfowlkes
      @deanfowlkes 7 дней назад

      Not really. Normal military communications are unencrypted. Especially military aviation communications. However, civilian airband communication radios are HF where as the military uses both HF airbands and UHF airbands as well as HF, UHF and VHF ground-bands. In addition to that, the ATC tower at this particular airport uses a different HF frequency (134.45) for helicopters than the normal HF frequency (119.1) used for all other aircraft. This helicopter was probably communicating on the civilian helicopter frequency.

    Any time to aircraft are heading towards each other a collision alarm should be given by the atc.

    Plane taking off was way high for the military pilot to follow behind. There should not be any confusion.

    Seems to me ATC should have clearly communicated to Blackhawk that commercial plane has right of way and is landing not taking of on rw 33 all pilots commercial and military should know where they are.

    Congress voted to increase the number of flights at the DCA airport with the Senators of Virginia and Maryland voting no but being outvoted. There will be many Swiss cheese holes uncovered in this process. But bottom line is why are our skies being over militarized? The war we've created in Ukraine and the genocide we help create in Gaza hasn't come to these shores.

    Didn't they have TCAS aboard both of these aircraft & were their transponders turned on?.
    Airports are NOT TO BE IN AREAS WHERE THERE IS "LIGHT POLLUTION",PILOTS USUALLY LOOK FOR THE "DARK PATCH",IN LIGHTED AREAS FOR THE AIRPORT.
    COULD SOME FORM OF WAKE VORTEX EFFECT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THIS ACCIDENT?.

      None of that would have had anything to do with last night's tragedy. New students will need a year or 2 before ready to go for real.

      Such a stupid statement- it was reported that Biden had quotas for DEI hiring. They struggled to fill positions because of this

    President Trump in His 1st term made merit extremely high for the tower traffic controllers, then when Biden stepped in, he made it all abt DEI, not intelligence and merit, shameful!! Thank God President Trump is back!!❤
    This is so tragic
