Hi I need help putting rod holder on a sundolphin pro 120 they made out the same material as a kayak. And thanks in advance thinking some kind of scotty rail system
Yes Sir I do have one and I have a different video showing it in action at a RUclips catfish tournament as well , I have a old video on how to make a bait well to that simpler
I don’t fish with planer boards but I’m considering it. Some of the how-to videos emphasize that planers just move horizontally so that rods three and four are out to the side well rods one and two or more down the middle. While fishing in the ocean recently, they were using planer boards to dive down 15-50 feet… Is this just a different type of planer board...a diving one? These had substantial weight on them with no floatation on it. Is this just same name for onshore/offshore uses?
Fishin N Stuff yeah I watch that one too. And I popped over to some ocean fishing guys to confirm that I wasn’t nuts - you can see in their designs they don’t have flotation, actually kind of the opposite. They have a big honkin weight on the boards we used & depth stamped on them - 10/15/20/etc. Maybe there’s a new how-to for that - horizontal planer board plus vertical planer board… You could probably even make your own lead
How long are the finished bolts when you put the clips on ,and what it the location of the hole for the bolts ,can you go back to far or be to far forward
That's a great idea I would almost bet you , it wouldn't hurt the foam. But I would test a piece first . Either easy that's a great idea . I had an idea after making those , I experimented a lot making that video and epoxy doesn't hurt the foam . And it drys hard . I thought about trying it out . The reason you can't use spray paint is only because the acetone in it eats the foam pretty quick
Fishin N Stuff Two other ideas also come to mind... Closed-cell polyethylene foam (like pool noodles are made from... ) would make a really durable float material. And you could attach it with small bolts and fender washers. Of they get damaged you can replace them easily enough. The other material would be balsa wood attacked with bolts. And since it's wood you can put it with whatever and it also very durable.
Balsa wood is a really good idea man , easy to get and work with , dang you need a DIY channel lol . I thought about pool noodles but I don't like the way they look on planer boards a lot of ppl use em . They look homemade which is fine but I like stuff too look like I bought it you know . I try to make stuff with materials that's ready to find ,,,,,if I can lol
Have you tried them boards out as of yet? I purchased some at the conference to try this year and they look a lot like yours but I'm always looking ways to save money, lol.
No Sir I haven't had time to fish yet I also went to the conference and finished editing a video yesterday, but I'm going to I'm sure they'll be easy to adjust if they dont , I made em just like the zakk Royce boards I have I made em 1 inch shorter because my bolt was a lil shorter hoping to make up the difference, but I'll let you know on a up coming video
@@FishinNStuff I purchased some from Park Planer boards at the conference and they look alot like yours. I have never ran planer boards so may have to get some tips off ya..lol
I'll help you any way I can brother , I'm about to post a new planer board video ive been working on that's really different. I bought my first set too but they are kind of high for no harder than they are to make
I have another planer board DIY I made a year or so later . They are both old . But it's call a balsa wood planer board . It's better video and a better explanation of how and why it's made like it is . Plus it was a nicer board
how thick is the aluminum plate please ?? .i am using 1/8"~( 6"x 12" x 1/8")~but am thinking it is to heavy @ 16 oz. what do you think with a pool noodle along the top?
They actually work good . I have another video where I used balsa wood for the top and I talked about pool noodles being used , they with good but they don't last . The balsa wood worked out really good
ok so now that i went to harbor freight and bought a welder LOL!! i get the planer board. but how do you know if a fish is on??? I cant get that part. Anways. I subbed the channel and appreciate all you do!! Akso curious as to where you are located!! Have a blessed day!
Im in NC , the planer board will float upright pulling away from the boat , that's what keeps the lines spread out . When a fish hits it or it gets hung on something the one side is hooked to your line the other side is clamped onto your line by being squeezed like in between your fingers . When it gets pulled out of the clamp and floats all crazy they say it's been tripped that's the sign your hung or a fish is on it . Thank you for subscribing and commenting brother I'll help you any easy I can
Joshua Callahan I drilled a hole 2and 3/4 " from the front and just below the foam as close as you can get but dint touch it , and put a nut on the bolt put it in the hole then put another nut on the outside
The one that clips in to your line gos away the bottom back as close to the corner as you can make it the third eighth the release clip is 2 3/4" from the from up against the foam almost
First off... let me say how awesome you are, and how much I'm enjoying your channel!! Can you provide some clarification on how you attached the aluminum bolts to the planer board once you cut the heads off? And also, where you got the clips from? Thanks!! :)
I cut the head off and attach it with 2nuts on the threaded side the smooth side that's left where I cut the head off is where the clip goes , you drill a tiny hole fur the spit ring
You look up release clips for trolling and you'll find em here a link but you might find a better deal than me www.amazon.com/dp/B001YS6STE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_taa_Qsr9EbFEKPSNB
Hey buddy I'll get you the measurement but I never tell ppl but I'm telling you lol im almost done with a new planer board DIY video ive been working on , so I would hold off building one . I might like the new one better . Ol and I'm sorry I left that measurement out that's an older video lol ive learned a lot since then
I'm from North Carolina , and I appreciate you watching I really do , I wasn't trying to be a salesman lol but I've got some cool DIYs planned and if you have any ideas you ever want to see let me know and I'll do my best
Great job on the planer boards. I had a few questions that may come from my inexperience with planer boards. First, how far from the edge did you put the hole for the bolts? Maybe I missed that in the video. Also, what made you choose aluminum for the board material? And lastly, for the board to pull to port side, would the rounded corner need to be to the left? I've never used planer boards and I'm not about to pay $50 for one. This Carolina boy will make his own. Thanks to you.
Hey brother thank you so much for watching , I picked Aluminium because you want a little weight on the bottom but you still want it too float , some ppl use plexiglas but you might need to add some weight , steel would be a little heavy plus it would rust . , the holes on mine are about 2 and a half inches from the front but the length of the bolt goes into that measurement, you want the angle of the line like 30 to 40 degrees different from the Aluminum so they pull away from your boat , and yes you do put the bolts on different sides , you dont have to worry about which side you cut the corner both sides are the same just put the bolts on opposite
Just curious I want to see some rod holder diy videos for some pier salt water rod holders / ways to keep your rod from rail rash I have some of my own ideas but id like to see some more love your content ive watched well over half of your videos and screwed up I thought I subscribed a long time ago but today I realized I didn't so here's a sub a comment and a like
They spread your lines out so they don't get tangled up when your trolling for catfish , striper , or crappie . But crappie fishing requires smaller boards I appreciate you watching brother

Yes Sir I do have one and I have a different video showing it in action at a RUclips catfish tournament as well , I have a old video on how to make a bait well to that simpler

Hi, super video! Great! Just a question: which is split ring size you use to connect clip and snap? Thanks.
i think it was 1/2"
awesome
Thank you I love your channel name😁
I don’t fish with planer boards but I’m considering it. Some of the how-to videos emphasize that planers just move horizontally so that rods three and four are out to the side well rods one and two or more down the middle. While fishing in the ocean recently, they were using planer boards to dive down 15-50 feet… Is this just a different type of planer board...a diving one?
These had substantial weight on them with no floatation on it. Is this just same name for onshore/offshore uses?
Those may be different planer boards there's several different kinds . The kind I made , I have a how to on
Fishin N Stuff yeah I watch that one too.
I'll look into that
I saw alot of talent from you drilling them holes in that round rod i know what thats like with stainless rods
That was harder than it looked lol . If you can get it started you got it though
Can you use planer boards from the bank, in a river current to spread your lines out?
I think it would work but ive never tried it¹
How long are the finished bolts when you put the clips on ,and what it the location of the hole for the bolts ,can you go back to far or be to far forward
I will check brother , if memory serves me right . The bolt was 6 inch long , and it was 3 inches from the front edge
Would plastic dip melt the foam? If not, it would make it much more durable than painted styrofoam.
I'm building some planer boards and wondering how far from the front you drill the hole for the line clip bolt?
I bought my first set too but they are kind of high for no harder than they are to make
hi supre super DIY! I wanted to ask what size the plate has? hello and thanks for everything
I have another planer board DIY I made a year or so later . They are both old . But it's call a balsa wood planer board . It's better video and a better explanation of how and why it's made like it is . Plus it was a nicer board
Quick thought. A person could flatten out some PVC & use that couldn't they? Or do you need the weight of the aluminum?
You could do that , some people use plexiglass. But you do need a little weight , but it can be added
@@FishinNStuff that's what I thought. Like the idea of balsa wood. You could even use Plast-Dip to coat it
how thick is the aluminum plate please ?? .i am using 1/8"~( 6"x 12" x 1/8")~but am thinking it is to heavy @ 16 oz. what do you think with a pool noodle along the top?
They actually work good . I have another video where I used balsa wood for the top and I talked about pool noodles being used , they with good but they don't last . The balsa wood worked out really good
Is the cut out curve in the board necessary or will it work fine just straight?
I don't believe it's necessary personally . I think it's more of a cosmetic feature myself
ok so now that i went to harbor freight and bought a welder LOL!! i get the planer board. but how do you know if a fish is on??? I cant get that part. Anways. I subbed the channel and appreciate all you do!! Akso curious as to where you are located!! Have a blessed day!
Im in NC , the planer board will float upright pulling away from the boat , that's what keeps the lines spread out . When a fish hits it or it gets hung on something the one side is hooked to your line the other side is clamped onto your line by being squeezed like in between your fingers . When it gets pulled out of the clamp and floats all crazy they say it's been tripped that's the sign your hung or a fish is on it . Thank you for subscribing and commenting brother I'll help you any easy I can
@@FishinNStuff thats amazing. two of my sisters are in NC. one in charlotte and one in Winston Salem. Thanks for the videos my friend.
Im about 30 mins from Charlotte
How did I mount the clip rod to the board
Joshua Callahan I drilled a hole 2and 3/4 " from the front and just below the foam as close as you can get but dint touch it , and put a nut on the bolt put it in the hole then put another nut on the outside
How far from side did u put your rod for clip thank u
The one that clips in to your line gos away the bottom back as close to the corner as you can make it the third eighth the release clip is 2 3/4" from the from up against the foam almost
Thank u sir
You are welcome anything I can do to help buddy
First off... let me say how awesome you are, and how much I'm enjoying your channel!! Can you provide some clarification on how you attached the aluminum bolts to the planer board once you cut the heads off? And also, where you got the clips from? Thanks!! :)
I cut the head off and attach it with 2nuts on the threaded side the smooth side that's left where I cut the head off is where the clip goes , you drill a tiny hole fur the spit ring
You look up release clips for trolling and you'll find em here a link but you might find a better deal than me

Ol i forgot , you should watch the balsa wood planer board video i have i like those much better

Как вы выщитуете на каком растоянии делать отверстие для болта?
One thing is what was the measurements for the holes??
Hey buddy I'll get you the measurement but I never tell ppl but I'm telling you lol im almost done with a new planer board DIY video ive been working on , so I would hold off building one . I might like the new one better . Ol and I'm sorry I left that measurement out that's an older video lol ive learned a lot since then
@@FishinNStuff Kool no prob I'll be waiting for the updated version.
It should be done Sunday
Hey Zac, how wide is the Styrofoam on each side?
Great video! Where did you get the clips ?
Amazon ,, ive got another better planer board video called balsa wood planer boards . It turned out great I liked it even better
A big pool noodle and the back plate from an old washing machine works. But doesn’t look as fancy as yours
That's what one of my friends uses too
What's the measurement on the Styrofoam? Great job!!
It's the same length as the planer board 9 inches and 1 and a half inches tall by a inch thick
Thanks for watching brother consider subscribing I'm working on some really cool DIYs ill have coming up soon
@@FishinNStuff
I subscribed, been watching all your DIYs. Where you from?
I'm from North Carolina , and I appreciate you watching I really do , I wasn't trying to be a salesman lol but I've got some cool DIYs planned and if you have any ideas you ever want to see let me know and I'll do my best
@@FishinNStuff what's the measurement on the hole for the rod? How far from top and how far from front of board.
Where did you get clips?
Amazon , just type in planer board release clips
Is any video's of them fishing??
How thick is the aluminum sheet?
Just curious I want to see some rod holder diy videos for some pier salt water rod holders / ways to keep your rod from rail rash I have some of my own ideas but id like to see some more love your content ive watched well over half of your videos and screwed up I thought I subscribed a long time ago but today I realized I didn't so here's a sub a comment and a like
I was thinking about doing that actually
@@FishinNStuff I’d love to see it! That live well that you did was awesome never would have thought to do that!
Can you weld that's where I run into problems usually
@@FishinNStuff yes sir aluminum, tig, mig and stick
@@FishinNStuff if you’re not good at welding just hit it with a sander after you get the slag off so it doesn’t look “ugly” everyone starts somewhere
how thick is the aluminum plate ? is it 1/16 " or 1/8" ?
I like 1/8 . Because you actually need a little weight on the bottom to make them stand up correctly
What is a planer board?
They spread your lines out so they don't get tangled up when your trolling for catfish , striper , or crappie . But crappie fishing requires smaller boards
I appreciate you watching brother
Fishin N Stuff Ah ok. Yeh, I’m searching for anchor options for my ski boat. Thinking about trying a box anchor but ran across your channel, figured I’d see what else you did. ;)
I appreciate you watching brother, I really do . I'm getting ready maybe around Christmas break to make a new anchor that's really cool and holds great , I thought about doing a box anchor but this one seems even better
It would probably be cheaper to find plain aluminum rod stock and thread them .
What do you use to cut the stirofoam
I used my bandsaw . You should check out my balse wood planer boards . They were even nicer
I'm in process of doing balsa wood. I cant seem to find the high quality of foam that the people selling them use. Do you happen to know what foam it is
I clicked it cos I liked it! Any plans for a small diving planer for a kayak Fishin? I tried a few with shaped plywood and they did not work.
Are you wanting a med size or small . What size are you pulling man I'll try it or if nothing else I'll just make you some
Something that would dive with a sprat type lure or a sabiki . Small I presume because I have to pull it. An idea how to make one would be great
I'l look into it buddy no promises ok
I'l look into it buddy no promises ok
Rodger that. Thank you.
all that and no Zinc Chromate primer on the Alum?
I made a better set of planer boats out of balsa wood . On another video
