Why You Should Never Wax A Man's Beard

  • I've been having a lot more people that are interested in beard waxing and asking me how to do it. I figured the easiest way to address all these different questions would be to lay it all out in a video! I do NOT recommend waxing a man's beard. I actually had first hand experience with this when I was forced to wax a man's beard back when I worked at European Wax Center. Enjoy :)

    I've been waxing my own beard for 5+ years because I absolutely hate the itchy and scratchy feeling of facial hair, and I also hate how the hair messes with my skincare routine. Shaving just doesn't give a satisfying result for me, and I've considered getting it all lasered off. But for now, waxing has been the best thing for me. It has been a journey for sure, and I would never want to put someone else through it to help me; even a trained professional. I have a higher pain tolerance than most, but I still take 400 mg of Advil a few minutes before waxing because those hairs run deep as you said; and it hurts. I use hard wax instead of the strips and apply witch hazel to soothe the area after ripping the hairs out. I start from the bottom of the neck, then chin, mutton chops, and moustache. At the end I use bacitracin ointment and cortisone 10 ointment overnight to prevent infection and bumps. Pinpoint bleeding happened the first few times, but I barely get any of it now. It used to take 45-minutes to an hour, but now I could get it down to 30 minutes while even watching youtube videos. I honestly think most men would cry if they try waxing without being prepared physically and mentally. It's high maintenance, but the 2 weeks of completely smooth skin is worth it to me. Funny enough, I'm too scared to wax anywhere else. Just wanted to share my story.

      An Advil 400 mg contain 10 capsules. How many capsules do you take? Also, I'm not sure but I guess Advil heals the pain and it doesn't work as an anesthesic. If it helps you to not feel pain, please let me know.

    • @Anthony-fu6cl

      @@ArszTheGreat I don't know what country you are from, but in the US 400 milligrams of standard Advil is only 2 capsules. Advil (also known generically as Ibuprofen) treats pain and inflammation. Funny enough, today I actually waxed without taking anything and there was a noticeable difference. Next time I will go back to my routine.

      I've got sensitive skin too and dry. I never tried waxing. i get u like the close shave feeling since waxing gets everything removed.
      if u ever wanna try a blade again just buy a safety razor and use either super sharp blades or medium sharp. It's nothing like the gillete or 1 time razors with 2 or 5 blades. Those razors will just irritate ur skin. Safety razor does the job without issues. Just be careful since first time ur gonna cut urself.
      I use a safety razor and follow the way the hair grows. I take a shower and remove as much dead skin as possible in the shower and when im done I put oil for extra protection, shaving oil. Then shaving cream and let it sit for 2-3 min.
      And then shave.
      1-2 days later I remove deadskin again while showering and go easy. This helped me to get rid of ingrow hair and irritation.
      Most of the time it's about taking care of ur razor and keeping it clean. Do not leave it in the bathrom. Since the moist will feed bacteria. So always make sure to clean it or put hand sanitizer etc on the razor blade before using. When done, dry it and keep it somewhere its dry.

    I ( with help of my wife ) waxed my beard and mustache today. It was horribly painful, and at one point I really thought that this was a terrible mistake, but the end result is awesome.
    Very large, fat, deep roots, lots of concentrated hard hair stubble. some of the roots were about 1/4 inch deep. lots of pinpoint bleeding. the hair looked like a piece of hard side velcro sitting on the wax and I could hear the tearing of the hair from my skin, i thought i was lifting my skin from my face. I don't mind pain, but this was fresh hell to me. I feels good now, but not so sure I want to do it again soon.

      Dude you said it perfectly!!! I got my face waxed and had a small patch on my chin left, I couldn’t bare the excruciating pain, I went home and knew that if I shaved I’d have a patch on my chin while everything else was clean, so I had to sit there for an hour and pluck each hair individually out of my chin, which at that point was nothing compared to the pain I had just endured. I was sweating profusely.

    I have had my facial hair waxed for several years now, but I am half Asian. It does hurt at first but after several times your skin does get used to it. I love the fact that after a good facial waxing it takes me about 2-3 weeks for any stubble to reoccur. I simply take Tylenol and I keep my face splashed with very cold water for about an hour to get used to it. It doesn't bleed anymore than tweeting does.

    I don't think your bad experience waxing a gentleman's beard should be a hard line about waxing beards. My pubic hair is wiry and coarse and my first year of brazilians was super painful and I never let the hair grow out more than 6 weeks. Now that I have been getting them regularly, it's much easier and way less painful. I think I would consult with him to find out why he wants the beard waxed and what his goals are. Then I would have trimmed it down to a reasonable length before waxing. It then would have been less painful for both you and him. And instead of big sections, I think I would have worked in an "outline" pattern.

    My beard is moderately fine, wavy, wirey but quite dense. When my beard first started comming in as a shadow above my lip, my mother, an esthetician tried to wax it. It was murderously painful, even though it was only shadowy peach fuzz at the time. I wax other parts of my body. Brows, underarms, male brazillian style waxing, buttocks, but NONE OF IT is nearly as painful as that upper lip. I wax the cheekbone area when i have a beard to give me a cleaner line for my beard, instead of being straggley near the top, but I DO NOT WAX ANY FULL DENSITY male facial hair on my cheeks. It would be too traumatic on my skin.

I figured out it's not the beard itself but rather small transparent hairs that actually grow directly on the lips. I am now plucking these - just close the tweezers at the surface of the lips several times until I grab the hair because these are invisible to the eyes. It hurts. But after a few of these I have peace of mind for several months.

    Going to begin at home waxing and would appreciate your input.
    Some say begin exfoliating at least 3 days before waxing. Some say stop exfoliating at least 3 days before waxing.
    Some say wait at least 24 hours after waxing to exfoliate. Others say wait at least 3 days up to a week after waxing to exfoliate.
    Some say to moisturize immediately after waxing. Others say to avoid moisturizers and lotions for 24 hours as it can clog pores.
    What is (on average) the correct, proper recommendation to avoid ingrown hairs and ensure desired results?

    • @hissnkittenwaxing
      @hissnkittenwaxing  2 года назад +2

      I would definitely exfoliate before waxing, it will give you much better results. Then I would wait 3 days after waxing to start exfoliating and would recommend to exfoliate 2x per week. Definitely moisturize immediately after waxing, just be careful what you use.

    • @serapheogen
      @serapheogen 2 года назад

      @@hissnkittenwaxing Do you recommend exfoliating 2x a week, every week in general or only post waxing? I know exfoliating your body at least once a week is likely good skincare practice.
      Would you say 2x a week, a few days apart, the week that you’re going to begin waxing is enough exfoliation beforehand? Or is something like every day beginning three days before waxing more recommended? Do you suggest stopping exfoliating a certain day before waxing or can you exfoliate even the night before?
      I’ll be using Cerapil blue and Tend Skin (roll on) immediately afterwards, followed by fragrance-free Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Gel Cream for sensitive skin.
