    hi dj Flent, what version of Serato are you running nowadays?

    • @ivanvelez7668
      @ivanvelez7668 4 года назад

      @Flent Duncan ok, I'm on version 2.3.0

    DJ Flent my other question is if I don't want to use iTunes with Serato, so when I download a song from a dj site it downloads and then it automatically opens in iTunes. How do I fix this? How do I go about storing all my music files in an external hard drive where it would be the root drive where Serato would see and play my music files?
    I've been using itunes with Serato since scratch live came out and then I started using Serato dj and now Serato dj pro but things got messy where my music files become missing and I have not touched my files nor moved them. So I want to use Serato without iTunes. I also read somewhere that iTunes is becoming obsolete.

    • @ivanvelez7668
      @ivanvelez7668 4 года назад

      @Flent Duncan ok thanks for your response. is there a video showing how to store the music files instead of using iTunes?

    • @ivanvelez7668
      @ivanvelez7668 4 года назад

      @Flent Duncan well actually all my music files are stored in the iTunes media folder in my external hard drive. Just want to delete both Serato dj pro and iTunes without deleting my music files and reinstall Serato dj pro and iTunes and start all over again and this time not use iTunes with Serato dj pro anymore. Cause the way my Serato dj pro looks now is very messy red or orange files with ? marks and lightning icons, it's an eyesore.

      As long as you have enough space on the drive for all your files. It would work

    Does the drive have to be exfat for Serato DJ Pro to read the drive? I copied my entire 2TB Hard Drive I currently use on a windows computer to another drive. Before I copied everything, I formatted it as Fat32. It shows just fine on my mac, but once I open Serato DJ Pro it shows the drive, but does not show any of the folders or files located on the drive. I’ve tried everything so I think it may be the format of the drive. Any ideas?

    • @djflentduncan
      @djflentduncan  3 года назад +1

      FAT32 is an older format that is good for usb flash drives and whatnot. If you are only Using Windows computers NTFS would be best. If you're using it for PC and Mac exFAT is best. I've never used FAT32 on any external hard drives.

      @@djflentduncan thanks for your help. Even after I reformatted the drive to exfat I still can’t access any files on that drive in Serato DJ Pro. I can see the drive there when I hit the files button, but when I highlight the drive none of my folders or files show. I’m thinking Serato DJ Pro is still having an issue with Big Sur MacOS. If you have any ideas of how I can get it to work properly feel free to pass it along. At this point I’m pretty frustrated.

      @@DJXcalibur are you coping the C:\Users\You\Music\_Serato_ folder to the hard drive as well?
      Serato reads from this folder to retrieve the music file location.
      For instance, If on the host computer your music files are located in C:\Users\You\Music and that's where Serato reads them. Then That's how the external hard drive has to locate them
      meaning your file can't be located on the external Hard Drive root (D:\) they would need a path (D:\Users\You\Music)

      @@djflentduncan all my files were on the original external hard drive. I copied the _serato_ folder and the _serato backup_ folders to the new external drive. I basically copied the entire drive as it was to the new one. It should work because the original external drive ran without any path to the C drive. Serato would pull everything from the external drive. I found no folders on my C drive that linked to Serato or any of my music because everything existed on my external drive. This is what’s confusing me because in theory everything should work with the new external drive. It is identical. Maybe you see something in what I did (or didn’t do) that you can point out. I am lost at this point. I gave up and went back to my windows laptop. Would love to be able to use my Mac.

      @@DJXcalibur OK, I get the picture now of what's going on. You originally used Serato on Windows to play. You used an external hard drive to store your music files. You got a mac and want to use the data on the hard drive to work on a mac. If that is the correct information. The problem is the files on the hard drive are formated for windows only. Here's what you will have to do. Copy all the files to your PC (everything to the local drive). Reformat the External Driive (exFAT) Then put the files back on the Ext Drive.
      If your hard drive is too large for your local drive. I suggest getting another External Hard Drive (same size or larger) Using a Windows Computer (NOT A MAC) Copy the files from one HDD to the other HDD. Make sure the new HDD is formatted exFAT. Windows will convert the files from NTFS to exFAT.

    Hi, I have all my music and the _serato_ data on an external drive. I plugged into my Mac for the first time, clicked relocated lost files (all 300GB) had a quick jam, all working well. I then ejected the drive, plugged it back in but all tracks were 'orange' as in I couldn't play. It's like the Mac didn't remember that the files had already been relocated. I shouldn't have to relocate every single time right? My internal SDD has no serato files or songs whatsoever. What am I doing wrong here? Normally I've always had my tracks on the internal SSD, but this new Mac has a small SSD so I chose to have everything external.

    • @djflentduncan
      @djflentduncan  4 года назад +1

      It seems as if you did not close Serato and save the be analyzed files. When relocating your files in
      Sertao, exit Serato so the application can save the new file location. Upon ReOpening Serto your new file locations will be recognized by the software

      CharlieD910 I recommend people don’t use third party data solutions. As it’s not as stable as manually organizing your files

      I was having the same issue, recently when I was opening my serato, everything went low, because "reading tags" msg, so I created crates with the same name of my iTunes playlists, then I disabled the option into serato, to read iTunes library, and then everything went very fast, so if you want to back up, the process is the same but remember to copy the music or video files to your external hard drive, usually those items are into "iTunes media" folder
