I recently found out, in the past 2 yrs. that my mother's family, and myself thru them....if Frisian. Before that, we thought we were Dutch, my mother's family name is Zwartwoude(Dutch), Swarthout(English). Learning more and more about you beautiful Frisian people, is very exciting!! I have always been proud of being around 39% Scottish...Now I also very proud of having around 39% FRISIAN!!! This band is awesome by the way!!
Dutch encompasses all of the Netherlands and extended areas in Northern Germany in Belgium. So you weren't wrong that you were Dutch but your regional culture is Frisian. The Netherlands has many subcultures like Low Saxons, Hollanders, Flemmings (in Zeeland) and Limburgers to name a few, the united seven provinces retained a lot of regional autonomy, the Netherlands is just the country that combines all of those cultures into one.
Dont listen to people claiming frisians are dutch. Sure we have dutch passports but personally i feel Frisian and not Dutch. We are a different people.
Lol i would agree with you but then we'd both be wrong. Magna frissia starts in zeebrugge belgium and ends in lower denmark. The trem dutch came far later. And is used now to refer to the people of the netherlands. But make no mistake us frissians where here a millenium before the hollanders. (Batavians and franks).
Esta canción tiene mucho sentimiento. Me hace pensar en la historia de la descripción del video. Sobre todo porque yo me consideraba cristiano, pero muchas cosas en mi vida cambiaron cuando conocí las historias de los antiguos dioses nórdicos. This song has a lot of emotion. It makes me think about the story in the video´s description. Overall because i was christian, i borned like a christian, but many things in my life changed when i read the old stories of old norse gods. Hail to the Aesir and Vanir

Frisians in Akrabergi. The first written history of the Frisians in the Faroe Islands, is from the late 1700s. These written stories are based on ancient tales Legend has it that the Frisians lived in Akraberg on Suðuroy. - It is believe that the Frisians already lived on Suðuroy before the year 800. - In 700-800 century the Frisians were driven north by the Frankish expansion. Some of the Frisians might have been sailing even farther north, to the Faroe Islands. - An old legend tells that north of the British Isles, lies an island called "Frislandia". This island may very well be Suðuroy. The Danish king Abel, who fell in a battle against the North Frisians in 1252, had driven many of the people who lived on the North Frisian Islands, on the run. Some of these refugees sailed towards the "islands in the west". - It is possible that these North Frisians, who fled from the Danish king, already knew where "Frislandia" was, and therefore sailed to the Faroe Islands. When there was most Frisians living in Akraberg, there were 13 houses. Men from these houses, could man two long ships with 12 oars on each side. - The Frisians had their ships lying in Sumba. - The ships were used for piracy and traveled widely. Sumba, who is one of the oldest Norse settlements in the Faroe Islands, is close to Akraberg and the Frisians from Akraberg and the Norsemen from Sumba, must have been so closely linked that they could be described as one settlement. The best known of the Frisians from Akraberg was Hergeir. He was known for his strength and he had eight well grown and strong sons. - Hergeir is known from the legend of "The battle of the slain valley". - He is said to have burned down the Bishop place in Kirkjubø, put an end to the construction of "The wall in Kirkebø" and killed "Mús", The Faroese bishops Erlunder's deputy. This happened in the year 1307. Legend has it, that a Frisian from Akraberg was at a Christmas feast in the village of Eide, located on Eysturoy. It ended up with a fight between the Frisian and the men from Eiði, in a house later now as Myrðmannstova (Murdered man's house) and the Frisian were killed. - This killing should be one of the reasons that Hergeir interfered in the dispute between north and south, and went against the bishop and the men from the North, to avenge his henchman. When the plague came to Suðuroy around the year 1350, all the Frisians in Akraberg died, except from two men. The two Frisian´s who survived the plague, moved to Sumba and married there.
sorry for english reply. i translated "tsjeaken" as jaws, "skientme" as beauty, and ''Wêr’t sibben har waarmje mank fjurren'' as "where the relatives are warmed up by fires", or "where relatives are warming amidst fires". tho i somewhat improvised with the word "mank", because i could not find any like that in the books i used. they are mainly older grammar books, and dictionaries, mainly in either dutch or german. i could bet words worng, since i had to first translate them into dutch/german, then that to my native (hungarian), and then that to english. it is such a shame that there is no up to date english dictionary and grammar book for the frisian language, while it is by far the best of all germanic languages (in my opinion)

I like how in frisian you actually roll the R like in old English or old Norse not like in a lot of Dutch dialects or in modern English
love this
Super gaaf nummer
Is there any English translation of the lyrics somewhere?
Yes, we've just made a good translation that fits the sung lyrics in Frisian ;)
English lyrics:
Shaped in primeval times from the bones of giants
That high judges seat
Majestic mountains rising from seas salt
Naked under the nightsky
Borrs sons filled thy treasury
Rich waters and evergreen
Surrounded by the frostgiant’s sweat
Aegir his jaws grinding grimly
Golden glows the sunshine on your countenance
In Aesirhearts you’re enclosed
Veil of fairness, Breidablik’s similitude
Amongst the halls of Gods you’re written down
In wizards whereabouts your name is whispered
Akraberch on Suderoy
Where sibbes are warmed up amidst fires
Whilst below the waves break and bellow
