That was excellent. As Kenny Rodgers said, “ You gotta know when to hold and when to fold.” Projects can get cost prohibitive.
😂
Look, I have to agree with anyone who uses the Gambler quote 😂
The backs are so charming and that peeks through the ferns. I am glad you didn't ditch them completely. The black paint is SO much more stunning.
I was disappointed when you decided not to restore these. But WOW. I’m so jealous of these. Good decision!
At first I was disappointed when you weren't going to restore them. Honestly, and stupidly, I would have proceeded on with the original plan. However, you pulled a rabbit out of a hat with this one! They are so cute! Applause, applause, applause!!!
You made the right decision. Structurally, those chairs seemed so fragile, I would’ve been afraid to sit on them. The plant stands were a brilliant idea & they came out great!
This was more MY level of furniture rehab! It was so encouraging to see you could pivot and salvage them 🙌🏻
Good save! It might be a good idea to drill a few holes in the plywood bases for drainage.
If you let the ferns stay out and die when the weather changes, they will add fall/winter color interest to your landscaping. ❤️
Kudos for doing a realistic repurpose on this set! I'm only part way through the video, but I think it's awesome that you address the real costs of upgrading badly damaged pieces.
Excellent idea! I never would have thought about putting the wood near the bottom, rather than on the seat😊
True! I wouldn't have, either!
From trash to treasure!! They turned out beautiful!!
Great job Katie! They make great plant stands
These are excellent as fern holders. Great pivot, Katie! Those chairs were pretty far gone. They look lovely on your porch.🌸
A creative and good solution for these chairs.
Wonderful. I love these. The green leaves pop against the black paint. This is a win win.
I think it was the best decision, they turned out quite nice, gave me a good idea for an unused chair that i have here.🎉
I had a big old black wood chair with caning in my garage. I put it out at the curb. No one wanted it. So I sanded I and gave it a new coat of black paint. I put in a big flower basket. It looks great. It feels good to save something from the trash.
Yes, they look great as plant stands! You can add in smaller pots to add a splash of color, kinda staging them!! Great decision!
That was a very creative way to give more life to a couple of wicker chairs! Wicker furniture was quite popular when I was younger. I think it's beautiful, but it's not the most durable type of furniture. As you discovered, it can cost more to repair than it does to replace. Bravo for finding a solution to tossing them back into the trash!!!
I found a lovely Black dining room chair with a broken rattan seat in the street last year, now it is a beautiful "lavender chair". The pot of lavender fit perfectly inside the broken rattan. I wish I could show you a photo...
Bravo! You did a great job with these! I love your idea of using them as plant stands. They're too lovely to toss in the trash but also too expensive to restore to use as chairs. This way, you get to admire them every time you leave your house. And later on, if you want to, you can spray paint them a different color.
They turned out just perfect 🪴 😊
*Great save, Katie, and being a good steward of your money 💰 is a SMART plan of action‼️ The chairs are beautiful 😍 as plant stands - and, I must say, VERY ELEGANT and high-end looking with black paint. 🥰*
I agree, love the black with the green plant, great choice. Also that the pots are set into the seat, I love these!
Well, how cute are they?!? I was thinking those chairs were gonna need a miracle…..(which I had no doubt you could pull off) but, wow! Great outcome and excellent choice to go with black and the classic ferns. You’ve inspired me Katie. Way to go…👍👍👍
Great decision Katie! End products look fabulous.
Great decision Katie. They turned out great. That's why I love watching you because you have such tenacity and don't let roadblocks stop you.
Brilliant! Black against green very striking. Thanks for hanging in there with your decision.
An Executive Decision that worked wonderfully. Your garden was enhanced and you didn’t waste any time or money. Now you also have a ‘story’ as well.
They made adorable plant stands!
I love them as plant stands.♡🌿♡
I love the chair planters.❤
Fabulous save of old chairs with great personality. So welcoming for an entry, sunroom, patio, etc. the bright green & black are so welcoming. I bet those got snatched up quickly.
Gorgeous, pleasure to watch.
Those are adorable! They look awesome as planters, especially with those pretty Boston ferns. Great job. Thanks for the Inspiration!
You did a great save by making them plant stands. They look good.
Great choice! They look charming. You saved the chairs and some money at the same time.
Great eyeballing on the feet! Love what you did!
They turned out to be quite pretty!
Oh Katie!!! I love how these turned out!!! Wonderful!!
I love it. Stunning addition to your porch.
I love that you just came up with another plan instead of ditching them.❤😊
Good idea, I would maybe put some plastic leg covers on the legs to help stop the rot. I love the plant stands
I have to admit my heart dropped when you were explaining why you were not going to go through with this up cycle but then when you said what your Plan B was I thought to myself how did I not think of that because I use chairs all the time for plant stands. Sometimes you just see a lonesome super cool chair and you’re like I need that and I love plants😊Thank you for restoring something different😁
Honestly, when you started deconstructing these, I thought the same, that it might be more work and materials cost than they were worth. Definitely did the much smarter thing here, and they turned out really great (though when you were in the spray paint aisle, I was rooting for a bright yellow or orange color 😊).
I’ll probably switch up the colour to something crazy next summer 🤪
They are just lovely Katie. A better way to salvage these old cane chairs. Well done.
Hi Katie, the green ferns with black sprayed chair pot stands look fabulous good decision. When I saw how much work was needed on the chairs and cost to bring the back to life, your idea for potsands worked out a treat. ❤
Good job, as the saying goes "When you have lemons you make lemonade " And yours turned out sweet.
They are beautiful!
I was so anxious watching as this unfolded and so relieved when you came to your final decision. You’re such an amazing lady, Katie!! One of the hardest working women I’ve ever watched!! Whew!!!
Thank you so much!!
Cute idea. I loved how you thought through the process and expense and decided to pivot. Good call.
What a cool project!
Way to pivot Katie!! You still managed to make them useful & save them from the landfill - on a budget! 🎉
Great decision Katie! If you wanted to embellish or maybe make them sturdier you could use some jute string or any kind of cord and wrap and tie it around the joints. I love what you did. Looks fabulous. 👍👍👍🤗💕
Beautiful repurposing 🥰
Loved the repurpose use. Would drill a few drainage holes in the bottom. Loved them.
I was thinking the exact same thing about these chairs. They weren’t worth you putting time n money into them but there perfect for the ferns. Really turned out nice. Yep, you saved them anyway.
♥️😊👍👍🌟
absolutely beautiful.
I agree also. I thought that too! I think this is a good welcome to Spring project
You definitely gave it new life ! I've heard you say you watch Angie who i really like as well... the painted furniture is what's in style. So people want it.
Love watching your transformations Katie! You are very talented!
Great pivot! They look very nice and add to your decor. Still saved from the landfill.
Yes! Thank you!
Great outcome Katie! Way to create something darling and useful while keeping them out of the landfill 🎉
I did the same thing with an old chair I found at the dump. My initial thought was to save it, but as I was taking it apart and refinish. As I was doing that I realized it would be too expensive and not worth it. So now it's in my garden with a potted plant.
The chair was so old the cushion was actually made from straw. I had never seen that before, but it was cool.
Great job Katie ❤ from Alberta
Awesome idea! That was a marvelous save! Congratulations. Job well done👍👍👍
I love them for garden decore! And you kept them from the landfill, which is still a win.
They look great.
When I fixed my wicker, I used plain old rope at the binding. On one item, I used some beige cotton macramé cord I had in a box to bind the joints. The legs looked a little rough so I wrapped the cord all the way up each one, scratching post style. They were secure and looked great. Your planter chairs are really cute! Great idea.
Yes best option making them plant holders. Well done
I jumped when you sprayed at the camera lol. May we all be as willing to adjust as things don’t go to plan like you did in this video!
Thank god you decided to turn those into plant stands. They are so cute!!! I had a pair of rattan chairs in similar condition that I did take on and I spent a ridiculous amount of time on them only for me to get them looking "decent." I was so frustrated with them that I ended up selling them....I made nothing on them. All I gained was experience on what projects to take on and which one to pass on!
I love those ferns in those chairs! Another brilliant save.
My goodness something so simple with a huge impact! I absolutely love this! I would purchase this in a heartbeat 💓 thank you ladies! As always brilliant work!🥰
I think I like them better as planters than I would have a chairs. They are wonderful
They look great Katie!
Wow! Those came out so nice. Very good call! 😊
Those are adorable!
I think they turned out adorable
I love these so much as plant stands. So much more than if you made them chairs again. Brilliant move! ❤
You are so smart! Very nice plant holder👍
Canvas drop cloths make excellent outdoor fabric, especially the kind lined with plastic.
Nice work. In the brief time I have been updating & restoring furniture, I’ve learned it is so easy to over spend while working toward some ideal project that may not be realistic at all. The plant stands are cute & not in the landfill. Good on you, Katie Scott!
I’m so happy with your decision. I just did this with a trash find. The chair was so cute and architecturally fun so my garden is happy
Excellent idea for plant stands!!! They look beautiful!!!
Great idea! Lovely plant stands! 😊
Nice...turned out great!
I had my doubts when you switched up the plan, but they turned out so cute! Black was the right choice and they would look cute on the patio or front porch. Nice pivot!
I think they turned out even better than originally intended
Katie - you are a mind reader!! I’ve got rattan pieces waiting on updates - thank you! ❤
Good decision! They look great
I had that exact set including the oval shaped table when I lived in Australia 🇦🇺 It’s too bad you couldn’t save it but at least it was turned into something cute and not in the trash. Great job 👏
❤❤❤ This idea Really creative
I'll be driving down the street looking for chairs now 😂
genius idea Katie..they are so pretty !!!
😊
Keeping it real! Love them.
Katie you can get the white rubber caps on the bottom to save them for from the white damp. But they will be cute as plant stands. Just a thought. (I was looking at my walker when i thought of that.)
That was awesome, I’m so glad you saved them.
Rattan is very expensive no matter how old because it withstands harsh weather.
It is also the reason most people use them outdoors.
Just a small two seater Dinnete set runs around $750.00 - $800.00.
Those chairs usually run for around $90.00 to $115.00 each.
I got 2 dinette sets for $25.00 each,
Reconditioned them, later finding out they were valued at $750.00 each set.
Needless to say I kept them, they look great in my patio.
Good information; thanks for sharing your research.
They turned out great!
Glad to see exactly this. Thank you. I can use the info for something rattan, a rolling three shelf oval drinks cart. In good shape but want blues of some sort. You are elegant now planter pair.
Loved the car chat. Great save! ❤
I had a wonderful wicker chair planter that hid a wooden box with a plant I didn’t want to spread in the yard. The vining plant event found ways through the small holes in the backrest of the chair. For five summers it was the perfect planter until the chair finally fell apart from the elements. Nice job repurposing these chairs!
That is awesome!
LOVE LOVE LOVE what you did with the chairs!!!
