- Today we are going to move a couple of goats to pair them up, so we can hopefully have baby goats in the Spring. We are also going to finally harvest the potatoes in the garden. Another great day on the homestead.

We live in southeastern Illinois on a 41 acres homestead. We just finished building our log cabin overlooking our pond. We are trying to grow our own food and raise livestock. Follow us on our journey living the rural life and developing our property and becoming more self sufficient.
My grandparents used to store root vets potato and others in sand in a barrel in there cellular
I wish we had a root cellar. We are just leaving them for a week or so, then we need to figure how we want to store them and preserve them.
We can our potatoes. They can be a lil mushy but we have them all winter and spring
We have canned potatoes and dehydrated potatoes. But usually store the majority in the basement. Not ideal. But it works for a while.
Not to be a smarty , but my cellular will not hold a potato.
That mid-life crisis story was hilarious! Thanks for the great videos!
Maybe the goat noticed the pigs and steers disappeared, and he didn't want to be next.
Never thought of it that way. 😄
That’s exactly what is was thinking too. Poor girl leaving the barn she looked so scared. Can’t wait to those babies in the spring.
I am wanting to start a farm when i get out of hight school we own around 45-50 acers my goal is to be just like you some day thanks for the inspiration keep up the hard work I am also going to be honest you dont look like your 45 you like like maybe higt 20s to 30s
Some homemade bread would be the crown on that fine meal. As far as the midlife crisis thing,at least the stuff you spent big bucks on will pay a healthy return throughout the rest of your life. Alot can be said for an organized, well equipped, and comfortable place to work and quality tractor to move work along reliably. You'll greatly appreciate it as you both age.
I'm 73 years old and I don't have any grand kids! Luck me
Evan you and Rebecca make great goat wranglers ... you might wanna tighten up on the lassoing skills though 😁. Yall have a beautiful little farm though and looks like it's productive too with all the recent harvesting. And those sausages, ham and potatoes look great as part of that harvest. Thank you both for sharing.
Very heartwarming. Thank you. Going to bed feeling better about my day. Excellent.💯❤️
Hello from New Zealand. Sounds like someone's got their Thanksgiving lunch sorted.
Hope y'all have a Great Thanksgiving!!
I hope you do too! 👍
What would that look like for a homesteader???.... You built a barn this year 🤣. Midlife crisis had already struck
Poor UPS-man. Guess that he's gone pretty nuts during his tour... 😉
Thanks a lot for the video! 😊👍🏻
What a nice harvest of potatoes! Looks as though you had a very productive day ending with that fine meal. I think I'm jealous. LOL
LOL Talking about the toys, I got some Christmas presents for my 3 grand daughters last year. A week later my daughter called and said, Dad if you would not want that noisy toy in your house I probally don't want it in mine.
Pfffft, older than I thought?? I just turned 46 yesterday lol. I thought you were about to say you were like 55 or something, yanno, outlandish 😂. We still got a 14 year old. An 18.. a 19... and a 21 year old lol
if you dont put those heritage turkeys in a cage with a roof there gonna fly off with wild turkeys....Joel Salatin tells a story of a guy in Georgia loosing 50 turkeys in a night and never found them.....just food for thought
I was just talking bout mid life crisis yesterday and you bring it up today. I got a good laugh out of that.
Dexter says I know what you did with the steers and the pigs .youll never take me alive🤣🤣🤣
I've been growing my potato in burlap bags on top of ground. Just pick up in fall and potatoes fall. No digging.
My uncle had a hog farm. They Had a large plywood box with steel supports that hooked on the three point to move the pigs around. It had a plywood door on the rear that would slide up and down. Which they propped up with a nail. It had to be a six foot box with 5 foot sides and fit between the wheels. They had it on a case tractor similar to yours. As time goes on it maybe nice to have something like that to move animals around. That box was always in use on the farm. I know they could get two souls in there. They had several hundreds of pigs. It was something to see pigs all over. Maybe a good welding project someday for the box. Those goats are little rascals. My potatoes are not like that. They look pretty nice.
That soft hillside near the new pole barn sure seems prime for a primitive root cellar to be dug into the side of it lol. Sure looks like a great day, have a great weekend guys!
Sydney and Scout…. acting like they’re well behaved…😂.
That Tom is pretty. Someone took a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.
Yep we a granddaughter that just turned 13 but we have enjoyed buying a lot of noisy toys over the years so lots of fun
Look at all the potatoes, I could only see a big amount of nice good meals in front of me, hehe, yeah, I like potatoes, I think you can tell :)
Crickey those goats ! Nice potatoes .....and supper ..
Your Supper Looked Good ! had to beat meat & potatoes IMHO No Mater What ya Try
I love to watch you guys when you are playing with the goats. It’s interesting to me.
Looks like you guys will be eating high on the hog tonight.😊
I don't know...is ham steak "high on the hog"?! LOL
Haha! The turkeys always have something to say!
Great video. I hope you have goat babies in the Spring from all your girls. Potato crop was magnificent. Maybe I need to get compost on my bed. I got probably three or four meals and that's it. I just didn't get the garden gene. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you Margaret.
How fun to match the goats up! Good luck on the prospect of new babies in April ❤️
Corpus Christi TX
Kennebecs are wonderful tasting potatoes.
My dogs love delivery drivers because they taste so good! 😆
Standing in front of his homesteaders midlife crisis, asking what a homesteaders midlife crisis would look like LOL
Thanks for sharing with us Evan and Rebecca, that was a great looking meal you folks made. Everything is looking great around there and hopefully the goats will work things out and in the spring you’ll have some more. Stay safe and Happy Thanksgiving. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Totally agree about the toys!!
As for the mid life crisis?? Go out and buy Rebecca an “e-type John Deere “
As always both of you, great video. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Just gotta say your vids are the highlight of our day!
Awesome. Hope you get lots of baby’s goats.
Now I gotta look up a vid on how to dry potatoes 🙂🙂
Oh man that food at the end looked so good. Thanks for the video guys that looked quite a day.
I'm seventy two and just going into it
That goat, Dexter, is hilarious. Chewy was funny, rearing up as you were working to catch Dexter. Congratulations on success
Someone will have a nice thanksgiving with your Turkey.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
Mighty fine looking dinner👌
Aways enjoy your channel AWESOME.
Whatever happened to leading them with marshmallows?
That's a great idea; worked with the pigs. I think goats like animal crackers. Hopefully, the snack idea will stick in their minds next time goats get moved back.
You and the goats are a barrel of laughs. Great to see someone else experiencing stubborn goats. And they talk about donkeys and basset hounds. I have one of each of those also. Y’all keep up the great videos they are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for sharing.
Really enjoyed this one.
Maybe the goats figure out what
Camp freezer was .
little potato....Creamer
Dexter is one smart goat!
thats fun with the goats
Looking good be safe
Lets go Brandon f j b
I know it sounds crazy but the way potatoes make under ground amazes me. Yours turned out good! I'm sure you've both thought about clipping the Turkey wings to prevent them from flying out of the pen. I never would have thought you were 45. We won't talk about Rebecca's age.🤭 might get someone in trouble. Of course she can't be a day over 30.
Much agreed on Evan's age!
Evan and Rebecca love watching! You two are living the dream! God bless you and your family!♡♡
Missing a turkey? Rip pretty girl. I enjoyed watching & hearing you. 💕What happened guys???
Love your homesteade HAPPY THANKSGIVING 🦃 🥧 🍷 🍽 Keep warm and safe.
Good evening.
Good evening, I always enjoy your guys videos. Thank you so much from Steve st.Stephen N.B Canada
Hi Evan just some friendly advice my name is Kirby from central Ohio and I’ve been growing potatoes for about 10 years make sure you rotate your crop every year to opposing ends of the garden to avoid potato beetles if you don’t you will have a big problem and maybe give the red skin potatoes a try they are by far my favorite and in my opinion much better eating then an idaho or russel! Keep up the good work!
Father God,
For what we receive may we be grateful for your provision. In the name of our Lord Jesus, Amen.
Lol Evan 👍
Lol, I did the fast car and Gumball Rally thing from 45 to 50. No regrets, but now I'm in the same boat as you. Simple is better!
Evan and Rebecca, you can cut/trim the wing feathers back on your chickens and turkeys to keep them from flying. Your homestead is looking awesome
Evan you got me chuckling with your mid life crisis comment. Best regards from Scotland.
Potato harvest is hard. Take the tires you have, stack them, fill with dirt, plant Potato's. When harvest just bust tires up, no digging.
Great video. Had to smile at the goat wrangling but so sad about the turkey. Your turkeys are so cool! Wonder if it was a 4 legged predator or a 2 legged that snatched the other? Nice potato harvest and even nicer dinner! Looked delicious.
New sub, glad your channel cam up in my feed! Finally, a couple of honest working real farmers and you both seem like my kind of happy people. Now I am hungry!
Aw, you guys are just spring chickens. No such thing as mid-life crisis if you keep busy, which you are!
I really didn't have you pegged that mean . lol Happy Thanksgiving to the two of you .
Okay, no smell-o-vision for the male goats. However, the meal at the end looked sooo yummy!
Thanksgiving is the 25th. Are those turkeys ready for the pot? LOL
ReAlly enjoy the goats. Nice crop of potatoes. Y’all are always working
Looked like a feats for a King & a Queen. Simple beaut home grown.
👍👍💞
i'm 56 and i guess i missed my mid-life crisis. you guys seem very level headed to me! happy thanksgiving!
I can't get over how young you look! I figured you 2 were in your late 20's/early 30's!
Thanks, we must be doing something right. But believe me, we dont feel like we are in out 20's or 30's.
@@CountryViewAcres wait till you hit your 70's! 🇨🇦
@@gord9677 or even 60’s! 😉
The potatoes look great (we call them spuds in Ireland) enjoy
Well done
yummy looking dinner - we had cheese toast topped with onion and sausage
That potato recipe sounds delicious. I'll have to try it.
Evan, you are funny...mid life crisis...haha‼
Between the goats and chickens you should have great compost
Keep up your the good work you too are lovely people. God bless you from Australia.
Time to learn some lassoing skills! Supper looks fabulous!
He knows what happened to the cows. Now he is saying NO WAY.
Turkeys had the same thought as the goats they seen the steers and hogs leave and not come back! They nope not going to happen to us, so they flew the coop
Hi, Farmer Tyler Ranch sent me to check out your channel.
Hey even I think you beyond your midlife crisis hehe👌
My dad used to make a potato clamp to store potatoes out side but he had tons to store but I think if you loo into it you might be able to adapt a smaller version
JudithB I was at a county fair long ago, and they were moving the pigs to the show ring. They had built a pipe container with a gate on one end and a set of wheels near the middle and handles like on a wheel barrow. They moved the pig in and the pig could walk where they wanted to go while being controlled. I know you could draw it out and build it! The Kale looks great!!!
The trick to leading untrained goats is to shorten the leash right up.
Hey, your potatoes turned out really good, like you said, Those are nice big ones. Hope to see baby goats in April. Good video you guys. Good to see you Rebecca ,looking beautiful as always. Did you do any canning this summer ? God bless, stay warm.
Yes we did a little bit of canning, but not as much as usual. It has been a busy summer.
Like your mid life crisis had mine at 54years
Potatoes look great! Exciting for the new babies!
2 months is ideal incase they don’t catch first time 😃
Don’t you clean them first?
Nice potato harvest. Do you do anything special for growing them? Do you just plant the seed potatoes and leave them or do you continually mound soil up on the growing plants? How did the apples do? I recall you had some issues with them early in the year
We just plant the potatoes, no Hilling. The orchard had lots of fruit this year.
