Hey Adon! A few years now. I think the first cover I did it prominently on was my Beast in Black one. But since then I've incorporated it into my live technique and it's super sustainable. I'd say my main distortion technique is arytenoid-based. This cover in particular though was a blend of layers and techniques to try to get the essence of Rody's sound while still sounding like me :)
Small note about your coarse voice technique - you do it from the throat - IDK if you had any training but if you don't do it right it can cause damage. And regardless, if you want deeper, fuller coarse voice, there's a technique that uses some circular muscle around the muscle (not the diaphragm) to create compression (IDK what it's called and I might be wrong about how it's done) - M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold is a *great* example of it He was tutored under that famous metal singing teacher Melissa Cross, might be worth for you to check her materials/study under her to develop your metal singing techniques (which have blown us all away so far).
"IDK if you had any training but if you don't do it right it can cause damage" She has a doctorate in Opera/voice you donut--she's literally a Dr of voice And Avenged Sevenfold are personally fans of her band Melissa Cross is a fractional comparison to what Dr. Starkey can do and teaches
How 'bout you scroll along and get some proper vocal education before you spout off about something you know nothing about. Her technique is *spot on*, and citing M. Shadows shows you obviously don't know a damn thing. Gonna cite Matt Heafy and Corey Taylor too? Walk on, dude, walk on.
Yo I’m not usually one to call people out but I can’t help myself with this one. You do realize you’re talking to a literal Doctor of Vocal Technique, an accomplished and ridiculously talented vocalist who not only teaches a slew of professional singers and vocalists, but also fronts multiple international touring metal bands. That said, do you realize how dumb it sounds to try and offer her advice on her vocal technique? This is the typical kind of insulting bullshit that female musicians have to put up with on a regular basis, so I can’t imagine she’ll do much more than roll her eyes at this comment. Please don’t make an ass of yourself.
The Doc kills it yet again! Bassil and Erik y'all destroyed it too! 🤘🖤🤘🖤🤘🖤

When did you start developing distortion technique Kristin?

I kinda wished you doubled up on yourself to harmonize like they do
Every single harmony is in here, actually! Perhaps it's just mixed differently than what you're used to in the original :)

Great example of "Tell me you don't know anything about the vocalist without telling me you don't know anything about the vocalist" 😂

"IDK, IDK, might be wrong" ... clearly 😉
I wasnt expecting this song choice. Hit by a massive wave of nostalgia. Great cover!!
