    From 2010 to 2023 (post IPL, post SL team attack, i.e isolation era), this is what the data for test matches looks like:
    | Country | Matches | W/L
    | IND | 139 | 1.80
    | AUS | 143 | 1.64
    | RSA | 114 | 1.58
    | ENG | 173 | 1.29
    | NZ | 110 | 1.15
    | PAK | 110 | 0.93
    | SL | 121 | 0.76
    | WI | 111 | 0.52
    | BD | 79 | 0.31
    1. The difference between IND and PAK is ~30 matches in 14 years; ~2 matches per year. Not that huge
    2. If more matches meant a team being better at test cricket, then ENG would be at the top and SA would not be this good
    3. Rest of the teams play IND in India while PAK doesn’t; this means PAK’s W/L ratio could have been much worse (no bias, just based on the W/L numbers)
    4. If the issue is that PAK doesn’t play AUS, ENG that much then this W/L ratio is even more deplorable
    It's true that Pakistan has played fewer tests than the Big 3. But it's undeniable that they have been piss-poor in whatever they have got to play. As for why they’ve been this bad, that’s all on PAK: the board and the personnel, the domestic structure, and even players' priorities. NZ and SA aren’t flush with resources cricket-wise (both human and monetary) when compared with PAK, how do they still manage to do much better than PAK?
    I guess instead of lamenting the world's perceived injustices imposed on Pakistan you need to reflect much more on the part played by self-inflicted wounds

    • @iamabhinav173
      @iamabhinav173 8 месяцев назад +5

      Brilliant stuff. Pakistanis sadly wouldn’t understand or accept this. There are very few experts out there in Pakistan who actually accept these things but rather keep on cribbing for all the reasons. In the end, this is a country with 0 achievement in any other sport barring cricket and even cricket for them is left to just t20 cricket and slowly but surely odi, test level for them has fallen to a great extent.
      The guy on the right would never accept a single good thing about India, very evident from his views in other discussions.

    • @cancricket
      @cancricket 8 месяцев назад +1

      According to your stats above, IND has played ~25% more, AUS 30% more and ENG ~60% more tests. Why would you say this isn't meaningful?
      Secondly, the time period starting in 2010 is a bit arbitrary. I believe PAK really started getting left behind after 2015 when the Big 3 came together. If you look at the same stats post Jan 1, 2015, you will note that the Big 3 have played almost 100% more test matches vs PAK. Hence the point the podcasters are making that no PAK player from this era will play 100 matches and they even gave examples of the likes of Misbah, Azhar and Asad who got no where close to 100.
      Having said that, there is no doubt that there are many self inflicted wounds and yes those are the bigger problem vs. the damage the big 3 has done.

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад +3

      The issue is that when teams don't play regularly they don't have a chance to compete as well. There is no surprise that the more you play in a set of conditions the better you perform. Secondly India in UAE would have struggled given how it couldn't handle aussie spinner's at home. But it never had to play there. But let's just remove Pakistan from it. The issue still remains that cricket has no proper league format and a haphazard schedule.

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад +3

      also, "If the issue is that PAK doesn’t play AUS, ENG that much then this W/L ratio is even more deplorable"
      In the past 10 years, Pakistan's record in England is 3-4-2, while India's is 4-9-2. The assumption above is clearly mistaken, so the issue is not about lamenting but pointing out actual disparities.

    • @ZenPixel107
      @ZenPixel107 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@BattaFast I am sure the W/L numbers I quoted earlier include these numbers for both IND and PAK.
      Also, if PAK has a good record against ENG despite ENG playing a lot more test cricket than PAK, doesn't that weaken your argument of PAK shitting the bed only due to PAK playing much less?
      The point is, when it comes to test cricket, for Pakistan, it's still more of a 'me issue' than anything else

    As an Indian who grew up watching cricket in the late 90s, My heart sank listening to Ahmer and Osman.
    BCCI and ICC are the worlds most shortsighted organisations that are going to ruin international cricket long term. Already Cricket and especially tests have barely any interest in the world. If it becomes just three countries, it will die.
    A country like Pakistan that has genuine great test cricketing tradition, deep pools of talent, lots of people and genuine interest (unlike say West Indies that’s missing the last two), should be encouraged as much as possible with as many bilateral series not just because it’s right to do but also because it’s the only way international cricket survives long term.
    What a bunch of selfish, short sighted morons.
    Love the podcast btw and hope the right people listen to you Ahmer and Osman you need to make a bigger deal of this as one of the biggest cricketing writers in the world!

    As per Chat GPT:
    Q: Who invented the Doosra?
    The doosra is often associated with Saqlain Mushtaq, a former Pakistani cricketer who is credited with popularizing and mastering the delivery. Saqlain Mushtaq is considered one of the pioneers of the doosra, and he introduced this variation during the late 1990s.
    Saqlain Mushtaq played a crucial role in Pakistan's success in international cricket, and his proficiency in bowling the doosra added a new dimension to the art of off-spin bowling. The doosra became a notable weapon in his bowling arsenal, and other spin bowlers, both in Pakistan and around the world, subsequently adopted and experimented with this delivery.
    While Saqlain Mushtaq is often associated with the doosra, it's important to note that cricket, like many sports, evolves over time, and innovations in techniques and strategies are often built upon by various players. The doosra has since been bowled by several spin bowlers from different cricketing nations, each bringing their own variations and adaptations to the delivery.

    You guys did an amazing job summarizing the inequalities of international test matches. And in between you presented the anecdote as well. Have a competitive first class test competition which people can be drawn towards. Even with the current production of the QaT the views on PCB channel are pretty healthy. However one thing is interesting how many people are going on about wasim khan and Rambo era. They didn’t get a lot of love when they were present. However over simplified or not the diagnosis of quality over quantity by imran khan was atleast a step in the right direction. It should have been continued. But the current PCB is hell bent of reversing every thing from that time. Captains , structures , coaches and even keepers with Rizwan being forced to sit out.

    Problem that cricketers had with 6 teams structure was that majority of the existing cricketers don't get any platform to play. And hence they become unemployed. 8 teams wouldn't fix this either.. they need to have grading but yes bringing departments is not a solution. It has zero association for people to watch.

    Cricket nations might be forced into organising themselves around their T20 leagues, and that would suck. At the same time, this is also kind of how football is organised, isn't it? FIFA is different than ICC in that it spends more resources on spreading and boosting the sport in emerging nations. But, like ICC, its role in organising international matches is minimal (except the WC). Pakistan has shown the way in how to do that in cricket. Thanks to PSL, its cricket economy is quite strong despite the international isolation. South Africa's motivation behind SA20 was similar. In all scenarios, Test matches will get restricted to the Top3, no doubt. That would truly suck for us 90s ke baabey, but maybe for the younger generation it doesn't make a difference.

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад +1

      yes FIFA, and many sports younger than cricket, organised themselves very differently. I think the colonial relationship made the desire to play international matches more, though in the absence of a true global body, its inevitable cricket will organise around domestic T20s.

    Brilliant. Thank you for discussing the test match dilemma for Pakistani players. While you are at it, please discuss in detail all the reasons behind this allocation of tests? How much is PCB at fault here? And how much is this due to big three unfair advantage? How much is PCB at fault here by focusing more on T20s etc. w.r.t revenue.

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад +1

      if the PCB hadn't focused on the PSL, it would have struggled mightily to continue competitively. the larger issues around scheduling etc is the historical reality of cricket being conducted in a haphazard, ad hoc way, and there is no political or administrative power available to address the needs of the game, rather than its richest teams.

    • @LocalManjan
      @LocalManjan 8 месяцев назад

      @@BattaFast fair point on PSL and agreed to a larger extent on cricket conducted on a adhoc model. But surely PCB can schedule more tests with nations other than big three e.g we are even scheduling 2 match test series with Sri Lanka. If Eng,Aus is not willing to play with us with 4 odd test series, we certainly can mitigate that (although not w.r.t quality) arranging more test matches with SA,Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. Even Afghanistan

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад

      a big reason for that is the revenue vs cost analysis of such test matches. the underdeveloped nature of Pakistan's broadcasting landscape is a big reason we are held back. but even then, test cricket is something that you would expect to be subsidised in order to be relevant, but a proper tournament or league would help generate interest far more.

    I am a big fan of Ahmer Naqvi, he is one of the wittiest sports journalists around. However, he needs to come out of this mindset where every conversation with him somehow turns to teams not having played against Pakistan in the UAE (in the Misbah era). I fully agree that there is a disparity in world cricket but not everything is caused by it. They barely discussed the test match and the upcoming tests in today's podcast. Since, Ahmer reads the comments I hope this is seen as constructive criticism and not trolling.

    • @BattaFast
      @BattaFast  8 месяцев назад +2

      these are fair points. wrt to misbah era, the point is that even if you become the world's no.1 team, you still won't get a chance to play everyone equally. you can choose other examples to make the same point, but this one is easiest to understand how messed up the system is.
      which is why, if you just choose to examine the test, you would want to ask why is Pakistan playing such an inexperienced team, and why do they not have Test match specialists, and why do they frequently go long periods without playing tests? the answers to these questions are structural, and their consequence is the poor performance. thus, we chose to discuss the structure rather than just repeating the obvious - Pakistan needs more test match specialists, it needs a more robust domestic system to prepare players better for Test cricket, it needs to invest more in player health and discourage players from continuing to play because they need the money etc etc.
      If you don't like the team Misbah example btw, consider that Kane Williamson has never played a 4 test match series in his career, despite being one of the best red ball players of his generation.
      Still i understand why fans would not want to dwell too much on these aspects, but for a journalist who has covered cricket for a decade, i am also bored with doing the same old explanations. I am sure you can find those types on mainstream websites (although if it didn't involve Big 3 teams, there is a good chance that coverage would be very limited).
