I love them too! The only reason I make them without the curly bits, is because I'm usually attaching things to my wreath and I need them to be relatively flat. Check out my 'DIY Driftwood Wreath & Starburst' video.😀
Back in the mid-1990's I wanted to make grapevine wreaths but couldn't find anyone to tell me how to do this. So, being the Country Girl that I've always been, I figured I could teach myself...and went looking for grapevines in some nearby woods. After finding some vines, I simply started rolling them up, bending and tucking as I went along. Depending on how long the vines were, sometimes I was even rolling them up around my arm as you would roll up a hose or electric cord...still bending and tucking as needed. Shorter vines worked, too. I just needed to "tuck and bend" them more often. All in all, this just seemed like commonsense to me. Lol. I've done that now for years, still not very sure that I'm doing it exactly right but it still works!! Lol. And, finally, here you are, telling me I've been doing it right all along!! THANK YOU! And, yes, I definitely subscribed! :) :)
Wow, I never knew these were this easy to make. They sell them at Michael’s for a lot of money and they’re always full of dead bugs so I’ve just never used them. But I am DEFINITELY trying my hand at this this fall. Thank you!
Thank you for the great video! Would you consider doing a video on how to make a grapevine garland? I can’t find one anywhere, and your teaching style is so thorough and easy to follow.
If you can show me a picture of what you are trying to create I can do one. (Also, FYI, on my RUclips channel I have a video tutorial for how to create a natural evergreen garland. )
From what I have seen online, it is just literally lots of long grapevine branches bound together with wire, every two to three feet. And once you have bound the segments with wire, you can pull the branches apart slightly, between the segments, so it looks more full. Does this help?
I was looking for one to buy when I realized that they are grapevine and I literally have that everywhere around where I live! Lol I’m so going to try this! Thank you!
I made my first grapevine wreath following someone else’s RUclips video and it was not half as thorough as your video! So basically I was winging it. Now I’m on my second grapevine wreath and I’m so happy I found your website to follow! Yours is so much easier to understand and you answered the questions I had, whereas the other persons video did not address these! Before I found your video, I watched so many other videos on making grapevine wreaths and yours is by far the BEST!!! Thank you for taking the time to put this on RUclips. Thumbs us and Subscribed!!!
I am so glad it helped! I felt the same way too watching other videos. Now I can pump them out so quickly, using this technique. They are so useful for wreaths and orb making for other crafts throughout the year! Thanks for the comments🤩🥰❤
Thank you! Thank you so so very much for this video!! I have these vines all over my yard here in South Ga!! I've googled how to make a grapevine wreath for about 2 yrs now and of course it only pulls up how to decorate the actually already made grapevine wreath itself.. Tfs
Would love to see a pic of the rectangular shaped one. Fall and winter are the best times to harvest the branches as they have firmed up and are brown, but still flexible enough to use.
I've never seen them made this way. I learned to put 3 stakes in the ground and wrap green vine around and around in a circle and then weave the ends to finish. Then they're hung up to dry and cure until ready to use. That way the vines are pliable when making. I like yours though.
You are amazing. You saved me so much money on how to make these. I also could not find the size I need anywhere. Thank God I came across your video. We pulled off our vines today nd are making a wreath. How long do the wreaths need to sit before using?
How do you know in the winter time what is grapevine and what is poison ivy vine. Where I live poison ivy will climb trees like that too, and their trunks get massive. Loved the video, it was much more comprehensive than others I have watched. Thank You.
Poison ivy vines have lots of little roots coming off of it, that it uses to attach directly to the tree, whereas grapevine branches have those little curly pieces that grab on to other branches, it does not attach itself directly to the tree. Just do a google search to see what poison ivy vines look like vs. grape vines - it is a pretty dramatic difference.
Here is the Evergreen Wreath Video - ruclips.net/video/YLDOZka5rxQ/видео.html - Thanks for watching! I will also be making a few more this season. One on how to make your own natural Garland and one for Christmas Gnomes. So stay tuned! ~ Jill ~ Natural Crafts
Hi Jill! How would I make a 6 foot grapevine rod? I am making a project for my sister's wedding next year. It will be a kind of macrame effect, but instead of hanging string, it will be hanging origami pieces. I want to wind grapevines together to be a rod at the top which the pieces will hang from. If you can get in touch with tips for how I could make that type of structure, I will be so appreciative, thank you!
I would do a type of braid technique. Just use 3 branches that are each 7 ft long and tie them together at one end with tight wire and then proceed to braid the three pieces. That should do the trick.
...and I would suggest, in order to keep it straight/flat...After you have 'wire-tied' one end of the 3 pieces together, secure that end to a hook or with a nail to whatever surface you are working on top of. And once you start braiding, secure it every two feet or so. That should prevent the braid from twisting on you, while you are making it,
Do you clean or spray the vines with anything before you use them? Im making a vine crown and I'm scared bugs/mites will crawl in my har. Im thinking a quick vinegar-water spritz might do? What do you think? (PS- I'm in CA and I don't think these are grape vines...not sure what kind)
If you want to clean them, go ahead, but I never see bugs on grapevines. **but if you are not sure what kind of vines you have, just double check that they are safe, as some poison ivy grows as vines.
Yes you can, but they are not as strong, and may break due to their tenderness. So just treat them very gently, and try to use the thickest ones you can find.
I'm wondering why these vines are called grapevines when they are not actual vines that grapes would grow on. I have Virginia Creeper in my garden and I have been using that wo make wreaths like you do. I do have a real grape vine but the branches are much thicker and I haven't tried using them. I'm in the UK.
Hi Monica, I am in Ontario Canada and yes our vines are the ones with grapes (concord grapes). I mostly use the new ones that have only a year or two of growth. They grow wild everywhere here, but yes Virginia creeper will work too!
I also love that we are helping nature by using what it provides, but helps our precious trees and other plants. ♥️ 🌱 It was great to include what to look for outside!
I love the curly cues and don’t cut them off.

Loved the story!
when getting grapevines away from my trees we just were dumping them - now i have something to actually do with them!! Thank u for the video!
It is a fantastic way to use them and check out my Grapevine Orb video - another fantastic craft for indoor decor or outdoor patio!

And it only takes one or two to get full mastery of it! Have a great fall!!😁🍂🍁
LOVE IT! You go girl, awesome video that has me inspired:)
Wonderful to hear🥰
First video that actually helps me! Thank you 🙏💕
You are so welcome! (That's the goal😉).

I like the swirly things lol
I just made one but the branches are still green. I have to let it dry. Oh I also made a rectangle shaped one :)

Thank to share your knowledge 🙏🏽
My pleasure!
Very nice.
Really enjoy all these videos. I hope there is more to come.
For sure! Just going through a house move right now, but will have another ready shortly ~ ;0)
I love it. Thank you
You are so welcome!
The west also has wild grape!!
Thank you for sharing…great video and so glad I ran across your tutorials 🤗❤️
Thanks for the feedback, enjoy them!
That looks really good! I’m gonna try this out right now
Yes, it is really easy when you get the hang of it!
And make sure the branches have hardened up, usually once the leaves have fallen off.
You are so awesome. All the info i needed! Thank you so much!
You are so sweet🥰 Thanks for the comment!
Wow
❤thanks

Yes, it takes a lot less time to do it this way🙂...so the next time you need a wreath, just coilect some branches and you can make it that same day.
It's fall perfect time to make them I've got one's with wild grapes and made one the last one it came out fantastic thanks for the information.
So glad it was helpful. Yes, it is a great time of year to make them.
You are amazing. You saved me so much money on how to make these. I also could not find the size I need anywhere. Thank God I came across your video.

I use them right away, no need to wait!😃
God Bless you. Am a follower now since I have seen your video and shared on Facebook.
Great video! Any suggestions on how to make a grapevine pumpkin??
You can make a grapevine orb ruclips.net/video/GVWeZfxy7dA/видео.html and then just use extra grapevines sticks to make the stem for the top.

@@NaturalCraftsRecipes Thank You. Once it warms up a bit, I'll have to go do some scouting!

@@NaturalCraftsRecipes Thank You!!!!
Thanks for this .. I can never find a larger size at the stores . And my Tn yard is full of grapevine! Small wreaths look lost on a large building
My pleasure! I have definitely made some really big ones in the past, and they looked great!

I am using old grapevine to shape a type of "orb" - do I need to wet the vine first?
If they are old yes, but I would recommend finding some new ones if you can. Much easier to work with.
We have grape vines in Florida! re: your range map
Yep, I was just down in Naples for 2 weeks and saw a ton of vines! Happy hunting.😊😎
Ooh thanks, now that I saw you do it I can see what I did wrong.
And this is a great time of year to harvest them!
Can I cut and roll them while they are green?
Yes you can, but they are not as strong, and may break due to their tenderness. So just treat them very gently, and try to use the thickest ones you can find.

Yes I have a video on my channel. DIY Grapevine Orbs
What kind of clippers do I purchase?
Any good gardening clippers should do the trick.

Sorry you found it too long...this was one of my first videos, you can see that many of my others are much shorter.😁 Hope you check them out.

Thanks from Michigan!
I just love using renewable & especially invasive species for crafts! It's a win-win, for sure!
