    As much as I like hardwoods, lately I have preferred pulling poplar. It stacks up so quick and with it being so high right now, I'd rather be pulling it

      I used to log and run jd650s and bigger. They had esco or some other brand winches and ran towers.. I remember my boss saying once that the jd winches were junk so he was running different ones. Then around mid 1990s or so jd came out with a new style winches that were much better and worked better so we switched over. Bigger better and always worked good. Looks like that is what you have on yours. Is that the only winch you've had and how you like it. Also we had towers. That made it nice to get chokers up and line up outbof the way and out of the tracks and could pick logs up off stumps or off the ground sometimes when needed. But would affect heavy drags and when winching heavy logs wanting to pick the nose up. But all in all I like the advantages of the tower. Have you ever used a tower on the winch.?

    • @hoskinslogging9858
      @hoskinslogging9858  2 года назад

      Yeah we’ve had that 4000 for about 12 or 15 years maybe. I was a kid when dad bought it. Before that I think we used Carco winches. Or gearmatics I can’t remember

      @@hoskinslogging9858 OK. Thanks. We would do alot of what you were doing there. Using the 650 dozers to run around and bunch. He had a Komatsu 65e grapple cat or the d7 with a winch and an old Clark 668 skidder. Among others to take them the rest of the way. Looks like fun. But we all know it's still work. Thanks

      Just depends on what you’re pulling with. If it’s a dozer then yes, the tips are better. If a cable skidder, butts are better. I’m still trying to figure this grapple machine out… haha

    As a logger myself does Kentucky allow you all to fill those creeks and hollows full of brush ?? I seen alot of good timber left to go to waste ?? Please try and start to practice BMPs and if your not going to use the tree Please don't cut them ?? The recent floods in East Kentucky has alot to do with loggers not performing BMPS

    • @hoskinslogging9858
      @hoskinslogging9858  2 года назад +2

      No. All that in the hollows has to be pulled back out, and cleaned up. We do all state required bmps. Not sure what you’re seeing in this video that is a violation.
