Got a fun extra one for you: The Amsterdam eel riots. In the 19th century there was a game in Amsterdam called "eel pulling", Amsterdammers would hang a living eel on a rope in the canals and then would sail below it to try and grab it, with the risk of falling into the water. The government righteously called it animal cruelty in 1886 and outlawed the practice. On june 25th 1886 2 police agents stopped a game of eel hanging in the Lindengracht (a canal) by cutting the rope, the people weren't happy, pulled one police agent in a cellar and beat him up, the other one saved himself by pulling his sword and hacking through the crowd basically. The riots went on until 10 when everyone went home. The next day however the crowd had gathered around the police station, the police had to call in help and a total war broke out in the streets of Amsterdam, the Amsterdammers started throwing everything they could lay their hands on to the police and the army was even called in who shot actual bullets at the rioters. At the end 26 people had died for cutting a rope!

What is racist about comparing poor behavior of local citizens to a general geographic area where encounters with the local population has been less than “civilized”? civilization isn’t something to be ashamed of.
I think it's what you define as civilized, not to mention the fact that the British were also using it in a negative connotation as in they didn't see them as equals and given Britain's "civilizing" methods I don't think the comment was that out of place.
I love how history is filled with dumb things humanity has done, Blm people rioting is gonna go to the history textbooks but it's just gonna be added to the encyclopedia of riots along with these other nutty people, this video highlights that humanity has always gotten mad with either small or big things but it's always a mob of angry people the ones that respond
So would you say BLM people are rioting and protesting over a small or big thing? If it's the latter is their anger not justified? And if you consider it the former, could you elaborate?
@@bito2041 At the end it's a riot, it's pretty nuts. I'm not saying it's pointless but the cause doesn't justify the end. If it were a protest then it 100% make sense that a police caused this, but looting? It's no longer a protest, all you get to see is one or 2 guys holding signs of the Blm movement meanwhile the rest of the people are getting some nike's from the broke up shop. And I know what you're going to say "don't you think people aren't angry?" And "You don't seem to take it seriously anymore!" But the truth is no one is taking it seriously, it started with meaning at first but then people sort of just turned around to the store and just decided to use Blm to cover for their theft. Martin Luther King was right, if people had started throwing things to police and screaming and shouting, do you think segregation would still exist?
@@nutsandbolts1264 MLK calls riots the language of the unheard, but he also describes them as socially destructive and self defeating so I think I get the point you're trying to make there. And if we agree that the majority of BLM protests (80%) aren't riots at all and are instead peaceful ( www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/5325737002 ) unless you have a credible source that argues otherwise, then I guess we have nothing to debate over.
@@bito2041 Yes you're right on that, but the media doesn't see it that way. I find it great that most aren't rioting or looting, but it's the ones that loot that are ruining the cause, it's like they said in school "it only takes one bad apple to ruin the class." I'm not saying that the protests are completely pointless and I respect the ones that are trying to give good face, but the others were impatient and are giving politicians a chance to ignore it. Take Chicago for example the mayor being from the lgbt community and black gave people the permission to riot and she then lost all power doing so, now she deeply regrets it. It's these awful human beings who dirty the protesting and gave it a bad reputation, and the worst part most of them never cared less about George Floyd.
I don't understand why you always have to put in this little quips like "some things never change" like how can you be so incredibly stupid to not be on the cops side after a drunk mob just tore down a barrier to surround them. How can such ignorance be so widespread.
