I like both knives because they deliver safety and quality. Both are well priced for the intended markets: not identical but overlapping groups of hard tool users and Spyderco collectors. You do get a little more value for your bucks from Vosteed raccoon, yet you get that air of high end superiority from Spydie Smock.
What are your thoughts on these?
The Smock has a new wider pivot screw on latest shipments. It looks great. It was a change requested by Kevin Smock himself. The only thing about the Smock I don’t like is that G10-carbon fiber veneer stuff.

Love the smock, but the raccoon looks like an outstanding budget friendly option.

The double detent is so the knife well not swing open pushing the button to open and considered a gravity knife and get folks in trouble with the law in some areas.
At least this is how it was explained to me sort of makes sense but also I can find hole in the logic with other knives and how they operate.
So would an axis lock/crossbar lock count as one in some countries? You can use one hand and just swing it open.
The smock is one of my favorite spydercos ever..ive conversed with Kevin and he told me the second detent was never part of the original smock design he gave to spyderco, it was in fact added at the factory in taiwan to help keep it from being classified as a gravity knife..on his personal spyderco smock Kevin removed the second detent for better intended action and in the same way so have I..one of these days ill own one of his custom pieces but until then ill just have to appreciate my spyderco smock as a substitute
Spyderco makes a nice knife but not enough to justify their prices to me.
I really like the valsteed im definitely getting one.
I really like 14c28n a steel made for knives.

Vosteed is a very good maker for budget knives. I love my raccoon, but it doesn't compare to a $230 Spyderco.

CBRx your opinion is great I would like to know I have already bought the Kershaw Livewire. I like to buy more OTF would the Benchmade Shootout be a good one since I have already have drop point blade Livewire or should I buy a 2nd Livewire with Tanto blade. Please LMK what you think I will just carry the OTF not hard use cut boxes etc not kill it. Thank you
As a light and agile EDC slicer, Shootout has no rivals. But reliability, price, ease of maintenance says Livewire!!!

They are both like that. Can’t really beat a cross bar lock, no matter what.
I love my sk23, waited almost 2 years to get it after paying. Was a nightmare, but ended up getting the exact custom I wanted and in the end it was worth it. My specific sk23 was 840 dollars and that was almost 8 years ago.
