The dreaded Check Engine Light. That comes on, it's going to be a problem. Most of us have heard that if the light goes on, we can go to the auto parts store and they can read the code for free. But the whole ploy is to get you to buy stuff while you're there, and an unscrupulous salesperson might try to sell you stuff you don't need, that won't fix the problem.
Not to mention, they can't even clear the code for you. Wouldn't it be a heck of a lot easier to be able to read that code out yourself? Now you can, nice and inexpensively with the KONNWEI KW310 Scan Tool. Green backlit display is easy to read even in direct sunlight. While this model doesn't offer some of the features a higher up one can, it most certainly can do the job. And if you're only looking to read out and erase the code, you can do it with this. It's much more convenient to do it yourself, and be armed with the knowledge of the code and what might be wrong, rather than drive out of your way to the auto parts store, where they'll try to sell you things you don't need. Or, you might very well catch your mechanic in a lie, wanting to charge hundreds and hundreds of dollars for work they were never going to do. Armed with the knowledge, that's no longer a concern.

I woke up early just so I could be ready for your next uploaded video!!! JAY? I can't stop watching your videos!!! I JUST CAN'T!!!!! I've been hanging out at the next door campground with my friends, but my throat hurts today, so I think that's a good excuse to stay home and binge watch your videos. My throat hurts and I'm having more breathing issues and needing more ventilator support from my ventilator. I think that's a great excuse to stay home, and do nothing but watch your videos all the live long day!!!!
Thanks very much! Hope you feel better!
The backlight on this thing reminds me of an old pulse oximeter that I had in the 90s. That's the monitor that monitors your oxygen saturation levels in your bloodstream. But That oximeter was a Datex Ohmeda 3760 which was a great oximeter for it's time. It alarmed for low oxygen levels like the ones these days do, but that thing didn't have the beep to your pulse like the standard is today. The Ohmeda 3760 had a printer, and could print out the oxygen levels and pulse rate. Looking at this backlight reminds me of that machine.
I know exactly what you mean. I liked how the display on this looked. A lot of new things have a white-backlit screen, but it's just not the same.
jaykay18 you’re exactly right
Awesome review. Does this monitor the knock sensor as well?
Thanks. I'd imagine that would be vehicle specific; if the car doesn't spit that out over the OBDII port, there's no way this can read it. Best thing to do is check with the manufacturer with the brand and model of your vehicle.
I keep one of these in each of our vehicles, cheap enough to have several. I have an Autel Maxisys for in depth module access and bidirectional control, but prefer to stash one of these in every glove box. CEL doesn't usually light only on your driveway so the convenience here is that if the engine light comes on while you're out somewhere you can quickly get a basic idea of what's going on.
Live data is handy but refresh rate is a bit slow. That's ok though - for the cost it's a good tool.
Yes, I've found the same. I keep one of these in every vehicle.
Can u do a demo of a vehicle presenting problems?
Such as P0511, P0505, P0171, P0301, etc...
No, but you can look up the particular codes within the device and it will tell you what they mean. Or just Google them and get the same answer.
Hello you did a video on the Konwei 310 about a year ago and you got a code that says 07e8 do you think you could identify what that code means ? Car is a 2004 Cadillac CTS and I’m having a hard time trying to identify what it means
Quite frankly, if you had enough money for a Cadillac, you should have enough money for a much more advanced scan tool. I'm being completely serious here. I Googled that code for you and came up with about 17 different answers, which means nothing. Get a quality scan tool that will cost hundreds, and scan the vehicle, that will give you more detailed results.
@@jaykay18 Thank you will check them out
You didn't show where you plug it in? please advice I have an A-class Merc 2006
With all due respect, if you don't know where to plug it in, you shouldn't use this tool. It's dangerous and can hurt you, like all other tools.
Try this video ... an earlier model ... Some Cars are well hidden as in mine . ruclips.net/video/dnR1d6vyNi8/видео.html
@@jaykay18 LMAO I am dead by that comment
@ Lady EH is is under your steering column, your plug is there.
Does it show codes only from check engine light or does it read whole variaty of codes like in Vag Com?
Surely you can't expect a $20 scan tool to do advanced features, right?
@@jaykay18 thats why I am asking, I dont expect it to, but surely would be happy to be surprised. Since I am using chinese kkl cable with vag com, I was looking around for cheap scanner tool which would work with most cars, and knowing how bad are elm 327 scanners which read codes when check engine light is up, was hoping this might be different, but I guess it was foolish to assume
can use with motorcycle honda, yamaha, etc ?
It works with any OBDII-compliant vehicle. If the motorcycle is OBDII-compliant, it will work with it.
Hi there,,is the kw 310 compatible for my opel astra classic 2002 model
It works with any OBDII-compliant vehicle. If yours is, it will work.
I have konnwei kw360 but even after updating the software it says either link error or this function is not yet supported. . 2010 mercedes benz w204 c300
If you can plug it into another car, a friend, a neighbor, and verify the tool works, you will know where the problem lies.
Hi can i ask if this tool also shows a bad ABS sensor? so if its in the front or rear etc?
Please, this is a $20 scan tool, as cheap and as basic as they come. You're going to be looking at a tool that costs 10 times as much to get into that kind of territory.
@Ram Pie
Did you find a low cost reader that will read individual wheel speed (in mph) via ABS sensors, live? I also have an ABS light on and need to diagnose which wheel.
No I didn't. I checked both rear sensors and 1 was damaged so I replaced that one. Its very easy when you remove the wheel and pull out the sensor
@@xiggydog My sensors look good so it could be a chipped tooth from an encoder ring. I just don't fancy pilling each of the drive shafts in turn to find which one. Thanks anyway.
This machine
Is good
Or bad?
The video has all the information you'd ever need to know.
@@jaykay18 kkkkk
Sorry
Vídeo didn't bring me any information operation
Thanks
Excellent. TY..
No problem.
Does it have access to read the kilometers counter?
You're not going to find that in a $20 scan tool. $2000 scan tool is more where you'd be looking for that.
@@jaykay18 there is a cheap obd scanner called Creader 3001.. It does have this function of accessing to the kilometers counter.
@@marouanlarhrabi9415 I have tested no less than 12 different OBDII scanners, some costing upwards of $200, and NONE of them have such feature. The Amazon listing for the Creader 3001 also makes no mention of it.
Video ok! Sun problem!
I'm not Mr. Universe.
Can i use this scanner on my crdi engine?
Yes, provided the vehicle supports OBDII.
How long would I need to drive to pass a smog test after resetting?
Impossible to answer, every car is different. The general rule of thumb is 50 miles, but it may happen in as little as 15. Keep checking the monitors. You need to have all of the incomplete ones turn ready. If your Check Engine light comes back before then, you haven't fixed the problem--most people are under the impression that these tools will fix their cars, but it fixes nothing, only resets it. If the car's computer senses the problem again, it will throw the same code.
Not to mention, your question doesn't apply specifically to this tool, but to all OBDII Scan Tools in general.
@@jaykay18 well of course I know it doesn’t “fix” the issue. I was coming from the bandaid approach but this is a bit more complicated. I really appreciate your response and thanks for the video! Subscribed
@@jesselewis5699 Thank you, I appreciate it!
P
Does it work with suzuki 2010 minivan ?
It works with any vehicle that is OBDII-compliant.
@@jaykay18 thanks
Man you really have a lot of these! But I guess they can be good backups just in case.
If ya have any more scan tool videos (not already recorded) you should Ginger next time! :D
There are others that have been recorded but not released, that have Gingervitus.
Actually, more correctly, make that Gingervitals!
@@jaykay18 Ginger is the kind of car where I can't do any "Connecticut hun" jokes. It just runs so damn well!
@@Sharkie626 In CT, you don't need a 6, the hills flatten out for you when you drive!
@@jaykay18 Ha! Oh that's great.
How works the o2 Test for a VW golf V?
Your question is best directed to the manufacturer, instead of a guy reviewing this on top of his washing machine.
@@jaykay18 lol
Cool little gadget!
For an inexpensive scan tool it certainly does the job. At this rate, there's no reason everyone doesn't own one for their car. I keep a scan tool, 12v air compressor, and jump starter pack (as well as jumper cables) in the trunk of all of my cars.
Atleast park in a shade spot when you make videos like this. Horrible reflections
Ha! Wait till you try to use it! Those reflections are there in real life too. Buy a cheap tool, get a cheap review.
Hi! Reset AIRBAG, ABS? Thx.
You need a tool that costs 10 times the price to do that.
@@jaykay18 ok. Thx
Does it work on Nissan Sunny 2004?
It should, OBDII is generally 1996 and later. If your car has OBDII, it should work, you can check the specifications to be sure.
@@jaykay18 thank you 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
