Ahoj Petere a Marceli! Solee indeed has really good pronunciation since she works hard everyday on her vocabulary. In total Solee has been learning Czech for four months and just 3 months with me. I believe you can make this progress also if you dedicate it at least 15 minutes a day. What are the biggest challenges for you?

Ahoj Jules! Ano, Solée a já jsme opravdu skvělé kamarádky:) (you would say "sladký" for a cake for example: sladký dort. Solee má velký hudební talent!

      Ahoy Tereza
Thanks for the answer. Speaking is the hardest for me. I grew up bilingual, so I spoke Czech very well as a child, but then I didn't go to the Czech Republic for 15 years and forgot a lot during that time. When I hear the language, I can translate it into German very well, but when I have to speak, I can't think of many words.
Kind regards and I hope you had a nice holiday.

I tried for 11 years to make Brno my home. I am half Czech. My great grandfathers came from Hajov and Kopřivnice. My grandmother did not speak English until she began learning it in school. Sadly, she refused to teach me Czech. I still haven't learned it.

Ahoj Tome, thank you for sharing that with us. What do you think about living in Brno? It's a pity that your grandmother did not teach you Czech but I guess she had her reasons. So now at least you're catching up with your origins :)

@@talk.learn.enjoy.czech.tereza I lived in Brno for 11 years. 1 year in Praha. I did NOT want to, but, I had to move to the U.S. (what a horrible place) to take care of my elderly parents. Someday, I'll move back to Brno, my home.
My grandmother lived in Oklahoma and I am sure she got severly ridiculed for not speaking English. So, she probably did not want her children or grandchildren to go through that. She'd get mad at my grandfather for speaking Czech. "Speak English!"
Language IS culture. When you lose your language, you lose your culture. It makes me very sad.
I had a dream 15 years ago when I first moved to Brno. To learn Czech, marry a Czech woman and become a Czech citizen.
I fear that this now will never happen.

It's common in the US for "European" immigrants to actually become American and disregard their 1st language because, unlike some immigrants, they actually wanted to fit in and become American.
My family were from what is now the Czech Republic, and they only kept a few slang sayings but gave up the rest of their language, so I'm trying to learn it .
