NOW I KNOW that if they wanted to incorporate this scene they would've had to work the drawing into 'A Lying Witch and a Warden' somehow, but personally I have faith that if they wanted to, they easily could've. I just realized the scene with Eda complimenting Luz's drawing is very clever foreshadowing that Eda is either apparently good with kids or would be a good mother. What's funny to me is that she probably wasn't trying to cheer her up she was just being honest.

Well Luz did also improves herself even in the drawing in the canon, if this is the pilot that just make the character better, because anyone can also get better, is like when Amity tries make the plant glyph and didn´t go well, Luz was already a super crack at that level.

My problem with this version of the story is how it feels like Luz as the main character is always in the driver's seat, trying to figure out the best path forward, which doesn't build any weight to her problem of being someone with an overactive imagination that holds her back academically and socially. In the final version, her relationship with her mother blossoms into something deeper because of her submitting herself to something that is an enactment of her own worst fear, which is going to a summer camp that makes her "normal" in the eyes of the education system and ending up in a place which is an enactment of her special interest that tests how she achieves different tasks and how she sees herself.
Here, it just feels like that she is all over the place emotionally and has no grasp on the concept of social cues and that she is only relying on the approval of people who like her (in this case, Amity). Hence why she breaks down crying after seeing her drawing. And yes, while that can be the case for a spectrum of teenagers and young adults in the education system in secondary school and college who are neurodivergent and don't have any support systems to help them manage what they have, there has to be a way to make the audience buy that fact and the final version made them buy that fact in the first three minutes of the first episode.
That being said, if this show was a film and they had shown Luz being bullied, as well as her being in the principal's office and the bit with her drawing the picture of her and Amity being left out until a certain point in the story where they're committed to each other, then I think that it would have gone together seamlessly. But with a run time of 11 minutes or 22 minutes in the case of the pilot, there's only so much that can be put into a story.

I love how this was a genuine compliment and not a way to cheer her up. Yeah boosting their confidence is good, but a genuine one is better
That was such a wild moment from the pilot. I always felt like the final luz we got was pretty tame in comparison which makes me sad, because she supposed to be weird and unhinged but this tells me that Disney really watered down her character in the end just to appease to a wider audience.
I’m glad that they softened her because there is a level of unhinged and weird that a character can reach before they become unpleasant to be around. I don’t know the direction that they would have gone if they took her character down this road but I don’t think that it would have worked.

@@mimijones7294 It isn't because you can be a weirdo but be pleasant to be around when you have a good set of social cues and social skills, but when you delve into a territory of weird where you're oblivious, you can't read the room and you come off as creepy, that's when you need to take a look at yourself in the mirror.
@@mimijones7294 No, the message of the show was that it not a bad thing being weird, but you don´t have to be EXACTLY the same you have to grown up, evolve, your own way,you don´t have to give up on your dreams and passions, but you need or not, you always have to improve, the simple fact Luz became the best witch, and still loves Azura´s saga, have weird clothes, and is calm actually shows how far she went in every sense, without losing her essence.
@@buzzytrombone4353 Yeap, is not bad being weird, but weird or not, there are some limits, always, improving yourself even if is your own way is the best thing,you don´t have to be like everyone else,but neither don´t care about the world.Luz shows this, always the show she was weird, that was the special thing, but she wouldn´t came not even half of the road if she stayed JUST the same, she didn´t have to completely change, but she has to improve herself, even alone without a master,she ended like a excelent master herself, and her own wierd way,even after the edning, she still improving herself and the others along her.

i can understand why people hates A Lying Witch or For The Future, good episodes, but both having a lot of problems and when you see deleted scenes like Camila talking about her husband in FTF or when Luz breaking down in front of Eda in just the first episode. simple but powerful scenes... you just can think: Why?

I like this better. More character development from amity, and this cut scene doesnt make their relationship feel as rushed or forced.

I definitely prefer how they setup Amity in this version too. I like that they keep it to Amity acting into her fake mean valley girl persona she'd built for herself. Not going fully mad and over the top like she does in the final show. Think that would had played better into her later appearances and been less jarring of a shift in character.
Ehh I don’t think it would hit as hard without it being connected to Amity. Since from Pilot Luz perspective Eda commenting on the drawing means the entire world to her after seeing Amity discarding it.
Plus I like how Eda and King first real bonding moment with Luz is at the end of episode 2. Telling her to forge her own path in becoming a witch.
At least we got the (sorta) inverse of this with the home-made fairy pie in Escaping Expulsion

I Enjoyed The Plot Episode, But My One Major Flaw Is Amity Was More Of A Jerk Then She Was In Cannon
Guess this was before they decided on Boscha being the defacto "bully" character, leaving Amity Blight filling that roll.
The Owl House went through so many drafts beforehand (some even unrecognizable from the final version) that it wouldn't surprise me if Amity was never intended to be a love interest initially, and was going to be the "mean girl" from start to end.
Amazing how plans (and characters) change.
