    Love the new line up of videos. While it is nice seeing legend play, I’d guess most users never reach veteran let alone expert level-hearing a commentary on lower level play is much more beneficial to understanding how to play better. You’ll have to consider what ELO level is the “sweet spot” between entertainment and teachable moments in play. Thanks Dan Ottawa😊

      Good point, I’m just saying in general, when it’s not the start of the season, there is probably a sweet spot for how entertaining a video is versus teachable moments that are actually useful for most players

      @@matteodimuro1298 This is true. There’s no point in him wasting his time on someone who is such low rank they are clearly casual and need to watch a lot more videos on how to battle before even considering submitting them. @@Liminal-Lagomorph that’s what I’m saying. We don’t need to watch the best players in the world, but you don’t watch T-ball to learn how to play baseball.
      Edit: maybe I’m being too harsh, but where Dan didn’t hit legend last season, I think he’s at the risk of a lot of players feeling like they’ve graduated from his content and moving on. These are still fun to watch but too much of it will drive away the more serious players.

    My guess is that it’s similar to chess (just not shown), and that everyone starts at an obligatory number (probably around 1600) and the rating is just a lot more volatile (moves up and down a lot more), until there’s enough data to solidify where you belong.
    So, rank 1 is likely coincidence, but by rank 5-6, they already have a decent idea of where you’ll be ranked and that volatility starts smoothing out.

  • @MarckPoGoW

    There is absolutely a hidden elo early in the season. During my first weeks of battle I've pretty much only played legend players. I hit legend for the first time last season, and it was my first time hitting expert as well, but every player I play against has the pose and is running meta with good team building and counting. When I was an ace player I would certainly get worse players early on in the season

    The whole vigoroth disarming voice situation against dirge surely could've not even got to that by just quick swapping quag after throwing the brine? Dirge was at 3 incinerates, by letting toxapex get farmed down that gave an extra 2... Which is a lot of energy. Surely you just swap in quag and get an aqua tail off (if not 2) without letting it build up all that energy farming down pex? Switch clock was up and they were down to last mon so no risk of switch lock.

  • @DjavoJ
    @DjavoJ Месяц назад

    Can't confirm your assumption.
    I was queued up against colin6ix the other day. Reached barely veteran last season, but that's more on my part. Didn't play a lot and i know what my deficit is. Namely not wanna invest time in learning move counts to know when to catch, how much i can overfarm etc. It's the next big step, that's on my way in reaching expert.
    His team was charja, vigoroth and s quag.
    Mine was s giraffe, emolga and toxa.
    Built this team in order to counter trev, vig and toxa. That was my thought process.
    Additionally i would say that good players (expert and above) don't often use sweaty mons in the early stages of the season, cause with the right energy management they can beat an inexperienced player solely with this knowledge even with a 'bad' (non-meta) mon.

    Hidden MMR is very common in most other competitive games, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there is a hidden ranking before hitting level 20.

  • @theroyceproject
    @theroyceproject Месяц назад

    With Quagsire, one of the best things you can do with a Vigoroth lead or switch is to throw the aqua tail and swap. Do it before they get to 5 counters. Nobody shields the aqua tail and it does about 35%-40% as a shadow. Whatever you switch into can probably farm it down and only take one or two body slams, but not three. This subscriber could have thrown more aqua tails before swapping instead of trying to save two for later.

    I do think there is a behind the scenes elo before rank 20 but I matched up against a wide variety of teams and experience level players. It kicked in way more when I hit rank 20 but it existed at times before that. I hit 2995 last season for reference. Also I never know what elo stands for but I understand how it’s used lol

    The 'under 20 hidden elo' is real, it's the algorithm and there's no way to counter it, I spent the first week testing an anti-algorithm idea, tried to lose every match and u was consistently winning every 21 games no matter how fast I tried to forfeit, then I went on a 34 win streak when I actually started trying, my highest winstreak before was 11 and I've been playing a couple years now

    I absolutely hate this meta. No matter the team, I can win more than like three battles before losing five. I made veteran last season, so I know it’s not me, it’s the damned meta. And there absolutely is an elo before an elo reveal because I was winning like 80% of my battles until I hate 17. Elo reveals was 2000 because I lost a ton between 17-20.

      what do you expect? No offend but players at rank 1-15 are not good! Either they have no interest in PVP and trying teams with no metamons and 1300 cp once per week or dont have the fundamental skills for this game.
      So nothing special to have a 80% winrate.
      But if you go further (17-20) you meet up with better player with all ranks including legends and other veterans because you all dont have a elo yet. So no wonder you struggle to keep this winstreak. I forgot what veteran was (2500 or 2750?) but normally you dont have a chance against a legend player who is also waiting for his elo. After that i saw a lot of legends got a elo between 2150-2200 this days. So 2000 for a veteran sounds fine for me i guess. I hit multiple times the leaderboard and also got ''only 2250''.
      Now i just chilling and fall down at 2100.

      @@TheRealMrAndrew that’s the problem with taking teams from creators. They make a team, win one or two sets, and pump out a video praising it as a legend team so they can get CONTENT. Meanwhile if they kept playing they very well could have went negative on the next three sets. Also people who pay attention to RUclips see these creators videos and run teams to directly counter them that day because they know they’ll see dozens of copycat teams. Shrimple as.

  • @MrSinister718
    @MrSinister718 Месяц назад

    There is no secret/shadow ELO. I purposely tanked last season and never bothered chasing even Veteran rank. This season I'm playing people 3 and 4 ranks higher than me (with legit teams) because my win record is so good. So that goes against your theory that it's based on the previous season. Sounds more like matchmaking is based on your current win% since the ranks are only based off games won, and not ELO.
