I am amazed that the Italians aren't also up in arms !! 😆
Or the Hungarians.
Green red and gold are the traditional colours for Xmas. Santa traditionally wore these colours until Coca Cola decided on red and white.
That would be incorrect. Coca Cola were not the first to dress Santa in red.
@@Athena621 No-one cares. The relevant point is that red, green and white are the traditional colours of Christmas and the channel owner is being disingenuous at best, downright provocative at worst.

You're right. The add would be admired by any one who doesn't like Christmas as it "destroys" or mocks traditions in a supposedly funny way
@@gillian6526 I'm not a fan of Christmas. Don't like adverts either.
What is your point?
@@djbogz1921 That the reason it has got into trouble is that it is allegedly using the colours of a particular flag. But those colours also represent Christmas and they are being thrown in to the fire along with other "traditions".
My point is M&S can mock and destroy things much beloved by many many people world wide and that's OK. Christian or non Christian.
But woe betide they upset anyone who doesn't share that value system

Santa Claus was a 4th Century Christian Bishop from what is now Turkey until transfigured into Father Christmas in the days of Henry VIII from whence dates his portrayal as a rubicund portly gentleman in fun trimmed green or red robes.

Oh gosh Marks and Sparks had to do their part and boy did they blow it! Sickos the lot of them!!!
Wonder what the Italians think?
The add would have cheared anyone who hates Christmas and wants to see the use of the word Christmas changed or mocked.
I find it fascinating that the mockery and destruction of traditions that are loved by many people the world over are hardly even noticed by the woke rulers.
Can you imagine the M&S managers sitting round the board room table laughing their heads off at how funny it is to think "this mass not that mass" While the beautiful, clad in M&S clothing (which, let's face it, you have to have a bit of dosh to shop there) have a bit of fun batting toy elves into the sky. Setting light to cards and generally destroying traditional things loved by many.
But it's OK to mock those who love Christmas. While at the same time making money out of it.
As usual the double standards and hypocrisy of the left is shines out into the darkness
Wait, what?
In what world could you describe a big corporation as "the left"?

Thanks M and S for providing me with a boycott target.
Why ??? Christmas hasn't been about Christianity, for the majority for decades.
Well done for taking the bait. 🙄
Well there's kids in the UK going to wake up starving and freezing and some homeless this Christmas, so well done M&S for highlighting the suffering of individuals this Christmas time, there's a 4 tier system now in this country with people living in abject poverty, and the state as made it, if Britain falls blame the Tories and all the people that turn a blind eye and just make sound bites, I've just seen people on £200,000 to £300,000 a year , having jollies , looking forward to Christmas, all TV personalities, vaqous entities , the gods destroyed soddom and gommorah because it had become evil and wicked , self absorbed, would seem society hasn't moved a inch
This was done in August apparently, nothing to do with Palestine. The problem with the advert is they are trying to get rid of Christmas!! Crazy!
God destroyed Soddom and Gommorah. I think He's doing the same thing again. It's just taking longer because He wants people to repent and He is giving them time. Also giving time for the word to go out to the ends of the earth. But I think we are witnessing the beginning of the end times.
Do you really think a retailer like M and S cares about 'highlighting the suffering of individuals this Christmas'?
@@cynthiamorris1874Trying to get rid of Christmas… with a Christmas advert? 😂
Sorry, but this is just too silly for words. Red holly berries, surrounded by green holly leaves against a background of white snow give us our Christmas colours.
We have had these ads for decades, nothing in them has changed. I see nothing wrong, but I see stupid people.
Totally ridiculous comparison. Red, green and white have always been Christmas colours. Simple as that.
The level of reasoning that concludes that anything that is green white and red signifies support for Hamas is reminiscent of Q anon supporters. I'm disappointed that M & S gave in to their ridiculous complaints..
This is not just a crap Christmas advert. it's an M&S crap Christmas advert...
I think that we should be more concerned that M&S are more intent on ensuring they insert the adequate amount of diversity. That they have managed to completely remove any sign of a traditional British Family Christmas, any trace of a traditional Christian festival, and any message about giving, rather than taking.
I suppose I should be used to this rubbish each year by now !!
Saw this add once recently, that was enough for me, just based on the weird banality of the 'message', yes where was the Christmas message?!! (Of family, community and peace on earth - a time for reflection). This facile add is just plain idiotic!
Do you think this advert was made recently ?? Normally filmed around July.😂
I was under the impression that the Palestinian flag is red, white, green AND BLACK. I see no black hats in this picture. Have there been any complaints from the Italians or Hungarians whose flags actually are red, white and green only?
I can understand M & S failing to foresee the pettiness of some people. I suppose Leister Tigers will have to change their rugby strip now on the same principle.
The Holly and The Ivy. Mistletoe and Wine. Snow.
Red, Green and White are the colours of Christmas.
I’m a Palestine supporter & think this war is wrong. However. These party hats are so clearly the colours of Christmas 🎄 it’s obvious. It’s an unfortunate coincidence the hearth being black metal & so they form the Palestinian flag. 🇵🇸 I would be stunned if this was intentional in any way.
It’s kinda unfortunate & unfair on M&S in my humble opinion. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm more offended that "thismas" is used. Silly me feels my british traditions like CHRISTMAS are also being sent hurtling into oblivion.
No it isn't. Don't be so ridiculous. Those are Christmas colours, vaguely like the flags of Italy and Ireland, and also the national colours of Bangladesh. Does everything have to be passed in front of an "Offence Inspector" as well as lawyers these days?
I know I sound like a miserable grump, but the ad is all about destruction, is Elf on the shelf going in the shredder? it’s The Massacre of the Innocents, as far as I see it, which I suppose is Christmassy in a Herod sort of a way.
When you see the Funny side when you consider that M&S was originally created by two Jewish brothers an still has a very large Jewish connection!!!!

Tim in this video if you look just past your right shoulder you will see the colours of the Palestinian flag. Any comments?
Much ado about nothing basically...
We must be mad mad
When I watched your video Tim my initial thought was that Marks was a Jewish immigrant which makes this mistake a little odd, although I don't suppose today's M & S has much connection with it's founders. Then I looked for the advert and ended up watching lots of M & S Christmas ads before I found the right one.... so their objective was achieved, surely?
They've generated lots of publicity for an apparently genuine mistake and people like me have watched ads that I would usually ignore. Perhaps they're not as stupid as you think.
Why even throw the Christmas hats in the fire? Its clearly not respectful of the celebration season in any case & just shows disrespect. Also yes it does represent the palestinian flag. They should repect everyone regardless including palestinians! But lets not forget its link with Israel in the past.
Tim, as somebody who identifies as Father Christmas, why are you so against it?
I disagree, this is just a coincidence and colours were around long before countries, they should not be assigned to countries unless as part of a flag.
So excited for Christmas and I enjoy seeing many companies advertise the Christmas spirit. But M&S aren’t fucking stupid, it’s not just 1 person who publishes an advert. It goes through many people and it takes weeks. Current affairs are always given before publishing an advert. So burning these 3 colours on a fire right now this exact week whilst people have been stopped for supporting Palestinian independence, stopped from using those exact 3 colours together this exact month is stupidity at its best. They knew it’ll trigger many people who agree to freedom and no to genocide and bombings 💣 ❌ so why do it. There’s better ways of advertising Christmas and the same 3 Christmassy colours. What sort of beauty to the season does that give, burning your deco and hats. It’s just timing.
If people are so weak minded that an advert with christmassy colours what happened to be the same colour as the Palestine flag hurt their feelings (btw the colours of Italian, Hungarian etc flags are the same) than they deserve it. Where so it will end up if we all have to tip toe around subjects, events etc and remove colours, words, just in case some weak minded person associate those colours, words with something.
First people have to do their f..king research before they jump into conclusions. Second these whiney hurty feeling people have to toughen the hell up.
These big companies have ridiculed the English flag. So too has Labour. Nobody has violent reactions.
Don't worry, I predict m&s to announce financial support for Gaza, just like McDonald's will who had painted mice thrown into a restaurant by palestinian supporters . Your reaction would make a great video prof.
Which flag was ridiculed?
Do you think a company that was founded by a Jewish immigrant (Marks) would want to get involved in the politics of this conflict? Somehow I doubt it.
@@normanchristie4524 It wasn't ridiculed in many cases it was banned, on council buildings etc . The flag of England is the Saint George's Cross, sadly it has links with English Defence League.

Where's the black bit of the Palestinian flag? As one comment that I've spotted here remarked Italy could just as well be offended by this advertisment, or Hungary, or Bulgaria, for example, for that matter. One thing that does occur to me is the Jewish origin of the company, which may have some people muttering about Jews being in-and-in with each other, however.
Listen this conflict is big news right now across the world. We’re not in a small country in the pacific where we’re so far our population is unaware of the bombing and apartheid. Every company like M&S will obviously want to remain non-biased, they want to make a profit. Adverts go through a lot of people and it takes weeks - You analyse everything. You CANNOT release an advert burning the 3 colours of a country where a genocide is taking place. It’s not a Christmas colour, the PR and marketing team had enough time to edit the footage and change the colours. I’m not Muslim Jew or Christian, but fuck me we’re not blind or stupid.
Simply an unfortunate coincidence, someone wasn't paying attention
Looks more like Italy from here
Would it be best if we had christmas in monochrome from here onward to avoid the prospect of offending some snowflake or other?
I grew up in a council house with nicotine walls and one year nobody bothered to take the lick-link Xmas decorations down in January. After Xmas all the holiday ads came on to further mock us in our poverty.
If M&S was still being run by its founders I would think that it was no accident, but it isn’t and has been showing for years that it does not have its eye on the ball or much else either. To not check up on their big Christmas media campaign before its premier seems to be par for the course. Perhaps they thought that it’s shoppers were also too unaware of world events to notice anything much except the price of their party size pork sausage rolls.
When was silver in the palestine flag
Some people look for problems that aren't there.
Whilst I accept these are traditional Christmas colours, however how do you not notice the sensitivities and world issues…. People are fed up and upset and there is marks and Spencer’s clearly hiring marketing who is what exactly, run by Mickey Mouse and elf’s. If we all saw blue and white burning in the background would we say yeah unintentional. It doesn’t matter if it’s unintentional, have sensitivities for ffs
Sorry Tim i have to disagree. No reason to do any thing. I am furious that M&S bottled it. Some useful idiots throw their toys out and M&S say sorry. Very weak. This would never have happened if a blue paper hat had ended up in the fire. Nobody would have noticed. I believe a Palestinian wouldn't have give a second glance at the advert. Once again its the" pretend to care morons" that get their nickers in a twist.
Im offended they ruined the games, burnt the cards, dumped the fairy and batted away the elf.
Rubbish advert if they want to sell stuff.
The only thing that was stupid is that people where offended by it!!
Would never have thought of it.
I love there salad 🥗 which I wil continue to buy
But then I never did like wearing paper Christmas hats........
Whilst I understand the point of view, the fact of the matter is that Palestine's is not the only flag to use red, white and green.
Belarus, Bulgaria, Burundi, Hungary, Iran, Lebanon, Madagascar, Maldives, Mexico and Oman all do.
So part of me says that somebody is being a bit too sensitive here.
There is also another issue to consider, though. The founders of M&S were Jewish. Ought M&S to have considered whether they should have been more sensitive to thi? Or would an attempt to obstruct M&S from acting in a particular way because of its Jewish heritage amount to antisemitism?
I am not giving a decision on this, simply showing that things are not straightforward.
What have you got against the Italians?
Yeah, I'm unfollowing you. It's the colours of 3 separate Christmas party hats. Not a flag. I support peace and pray for a ceasefire in Palestine. But the advert is not in any way remotely associated with the Palestine flag.
Despite the timeline, there will be those who will say this is M £ S , displaying there true " colours" 🏴✌️
People always infer according to their own confirmation bias. Doesn't make them insightful.
I have to agree with the comment below, ok it's is an unfortunate choice of colour at the moment
but how many would even notice.
What realy annoys me about M&S Christmas adverts is that they show a table full of very expensive
food that most people can't afford with all the other expenses of Christmas.
I could just about afford it, but would regret spending that amount of money for a few days of food.
Get real M&S you are out of touch with reality!
Is it stupidity or cupidity?
They are looking for trouble- a very bad move.
Talk about tone deaf.
I do not believe that we should be celebrating Christmas as normal this year considering Jesus was a Palestinian who has not yet condemned Hamas
No such thing as bad publicity
Sounds like a storm in a teacup.
M&S seems to have had historical support for both Israel and Zionism, and though the original Jewish founders are no longer involved, the assumption that there is clear support for Israel remains.
The advert would have been thought up and filmed before the Hamas attack in October, so the choice of colours wouldn't have been deliberate, only coincidental - green and red are often associated with Christmas.
Having said all that - knowing that M&S are historically linked to Israel and with the destruction going on in Gaza, it was incredibly clumsy and insensitive of M&S not to make the connections between the colours of the Palestinian flag and the advert.
The kind of people who actively want to see Palestinian babies burn are probably the same people who feel the same way about Jewish babies, so either way, M&S have really messed up on this occasion.
It seems entirely reasonable to use colours traditionally associated with Christmas and not notice that they are similar to the Palestinian colours - I certainly wouldn't have noticed, especially as not all the colours are there - people are dying in Gaza and you are complaining about party hats, it's insane.
I am just penning a letter to the Italian Embassy telling them to stop using Palestinian colours on their flag.
@@carlpeberdy9086 I'm pointing out why people HAVE complained and why - because of their past connections - M&S have been taken to task.
@@grahamariss2111 carry on being ridiculous and asinine - it shows exactly the right level of compassion and understanding. 😁👍
@@grahamariss2111Maybe the advert was a comment on the fate of the Roman empire and the history of Palestine?
Will M&S be boycotted? No. The Brits won't deny themselves for a principle.
I disagree, this is people being overly sensitive. Red and green and white are very traditional Christmas colours and in all probability the designers of the advert had no idea of the colours of the Palestinian flag. Also they are paper hats, they are not the Palestinian flag. Further the Palestinian flag contains a black stripe and there was no black coloured hat. I'm not sure we could reasonably expect people to anticipate the reaction this has received. Should the designers have considered all the conflicts in the world and avoided using any colours in any of the flags of the Nations involved in those conflicts, that would rule out a lot of colours. No doubt they've taken it down to minimise the criticism, but I do not think they've done anything wrong or anything particularly stupid.
Human beings have a tendency to read significance into things where there is no significance. If the colours of the hats were red white and blue I suspect some "Patriots" would be suggesting this was intended as an underhand insult against this country.
They've taken this down not because they've done anything wrong, but because they've calculated there's no commercial benefit to defending themselves against what in my view is unjustified criticism. The problem is they will now receive criticism from those who think that they should not have taken it down.
Accidental? I would take some convincing.
It doesn’t look like a flag to me, If you seeing it as a flag then you need to go to spec savers.
If you look at the far left there is Red space then white. Like there separate things as clearly the red isn’t joining to anything. There two blacks spaces and not just one. 😐
Having watch the vid, you confirm it wasn’t a Palestinian flag at all. That would be rather shocking but it turns out as you said paper Hats. Then it is a none issue and M&S shouldn’t pulled them Ad. And someone mentioned it was already recorded.
It not was recorded three weeks ago. 🏳🌈 Have a pride flag instead. 😂
Who thought that the traditional Christmas colours represented the Palestinian flag? Nor me...........
The advert was an insult to Christians and M&S apologizes to Muslims.
You couldn't make this up.
Why is it an insult to Christians? A Christian true to their bible would not be celebrating Christmas, the reason we came to celebrate it to such an extent in the Norther European cultures is because we had various pagan festivals which were used to give us a "collective hug" in mid winter to celebrate being "half way out the dark". The Christian church just rebranded these festivals into what we know today as Christmas, because they knew most people would not buy their particular brand of god bothering if they took their favourite holiday away. However the Puritans in June 1647, passed an ordinance banning Christmas, Easter and Whitsun festivities, services and celebrations, including festivities in the home, with fines for non-compliance, however unsurprisingly that did not end well for them and by 1660 they were all but gone.
@@grahamariss2111 Beautifully said.
@@grahamariss2111That is a totally invalid argument, because Christmas is widely accepted by Christians. Anyone can quote the Bible to support any argument they want to

@@peterswires8439 It is widely accepted by a lot more people than Christians, I have celebrated Christmas in Japan and throughout South East Asia, although in one Hotel in Tokyo they did nail a Father Christmas to a Cross as part of their Christmas decorations, but I can see how they could make that mistake with the whole Christian symbolism associated with it being so absurdly contorted to fit in with its Pagan origins. Christmas has never truly been a Christian event, it is at heart today, what it has always been, a Consumption event and long may it stay so. Yes you are right, anyone can quote the Bible to support any argument they want to and there is the fundamental basis of the whole Christian Religion which is why it is still with us today.
