I put a couple of the empty cardboard punchouts on the bottom on the box to elevate the insert. After assembling everything, I put the manual on top to serve as a "lid" for the top part of the insert. I store it vertically and nothing gets out of place this way!
I totally agree with you, the fashion theme works best for this heavy economic game. All the contracts, buildings, employees, designs and materials are SO GOOD!! Everything works so well and the engine building in this economic game shines as the game progresses to the 4th quarter. However, this is not a quick game. My first game play was almost 4 hours long but that was because it was my first play with my group. But I think after 2-3 more plays we could get this down to 2.5-3 hours with 2-3 players. But overall great economic game and possibly in my top 10 list.
I'm successfully storing my Kickstarter copy vertically. The player boards plus the board fail only to seal the upper right and left bins of the lower insert, so I bagged the tokens in those slots. The rules placed above the top insert keep all the tokens and resources in place. I concede that I will be transporting Prêt-À-Porter horizontally as I don't trust this arrangement vertically if shaken. Glad to hear it's a smooth teach. Thanks for the warning that the box is a liar about game length. I'm sure it's going to be a blast if you're enjoying a game this long.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Perhaps you were supposed to put the punched sprues on the bottom of the box to lift the insert flush to the lid. Im sure you probably tossed these but can try it with the sprues from your next punched game. I don't have this one, but the instructions on Five Tribes tell you to do this. I had never thought of it before.
i watched a playthrough of this yesterday, and totally agree with you, this looks beautiful, and as Dumidu Surasinghe said better no solo than half-baked
Good review! I wasn't interested in this before but I may have to look at it again. Pity about the lack of solo but I suppose it's better not to do it rather than have a half-baked effort that no one appreciates.
The theme and art work very well together in this one. I skipped the Kickstarter for it because I didn't have the time to research the gameplay enough for me to realize whether I'd like it or not, but I hope to play it from someone else soon.
Also, what you said about taking a loan to kickstart your economy is, I feel, a pretty common thing in euros: Great Western Trail has this too, where, while you usually want to ship cows for lots of money and VP, the first (few) shipments are best made to the lowest spot, where you get even more money but you get -6VP (or -8VP with the expansion). It feels very counter-intuitive to some people, especially if you are not *forced* to ship there, but it's actually the best strategy.
It is very subjective, but basically: Gateway - games I could teach to even my parents or someone who's not heard of a game beyond Monopoly. Gateway+ - the next step above once I've got those gamers settled on Gateway titles. Alternatively, I can teach these to those more versed in "geekdom" as a first game. Advanced - Anything medium weight and above.
Hey Luke, I ordered a retail copy & somehow got a kickstarter copy with a set of alternate artwork, yellow design cards. Would you like them? I’d be willing to ship them to you in England at no cost. I will never use them - honestly I think they’re kinda ugly. Let me know!
i believe you can take the punchout board and put it under the inserts and it will raise it enough so the top tray is flush with the box and wont spill out, at least that's what i'm hoping
Interesting, I've never considered them economic games, but I wonder......... but I would say right now, I prefer this to Vinhos, but Gallerist...............ooooh I do like Gallerist a lot, but I will say this flows smoother and is easier to teach so perhaps this does pip Gallerist a bit.
More streamlined. Prettier aesthetics. Probably a little less "tight". But even then Kanban I wouldn't call an economic game, you're not trying to make money or manage it. Maybe compare it more to Brass, this has a better theme, is less punishing, has more ways for players to catch up potentially, both are equally gorgeous and heavy.
number one economic game? so what else is up there next to pret a porter as top economic games? Just would be interesting to know to what you are comparing it kind of =)
Frankly there aren't many Economic games I enjoy, other than some lighter ones. They tend to have such dry and uninspired themes (Pipeline for example). Pret A Porter has easily been the heaviest and best that I can get behind.
I like the new intro! Great branding! It definitely fits Luke’s personality because of the Sentinels of the Universe skin peppered in with his iconic quotes. I appreciate the quality of his videos and the time he spends making them awesome. He actually cares that the video looks great and the content is on point. Keep it up Luke! Enjoyed this review and can’t wait to play my kickstarter edition of Pret A Porter.

Useful to know, I think I chucked those! :P

That is the achillies heel, that the game is very long especially on a first play with those not used to this level of game.

It's very long but I never felt bored, and that in itself is a big feat to pull off.

Sounds like a winner. Thanks Luke!
Defo! Teaching this one next weekend actually!
@@TheBrokenMeeple Finally just bought my copy. Can't wait to play!

@@RaduStanculescu Unless you play Le Havre where unless you house-rule the loans, you can simply take a million of them and win the game easily.
Great review! I can't wait until this goes to retail.
Question - can you define gateway, gateway + and advanced games for me?
I always struggle to grasp where the line is
Genuinely different for different people
It is very subjective, but basically:
Gateway - games I could teach to even my parents or someone who's not heard of a game beyond Monopoly.
Gateway+ - the next step above once I've got those gamers settled on Gateway titles. Alternatively, I can teach these to those more versed in "geekdom" as a first game.
Advanced - Anything medium weight and above.
This game is very, very good. I've been burned badly with my first two Kickstarters, but this made up for both of those. Great economic game.
Which two games burn you?

I think I have those as well, I think most copies got them.
i believe you can take the punchout board and put it under the inserts and it will raise it enough so the top tray is flush with the box and wont spill out, at least that's what i'm hoping
I don't think that will help the bottom tray though.
Prefer it to Vinhos / Gallerist ;)?

@@TheBrokenMeeple thanks for your reply. So..some names of lighter economic games you enjoy? =)
Airlines Europe, Happy Pigs, Stockpile, stuff like that where there's more then just buy and sell mechanics.
Comparable to Brass?
Kicks the snot out of Brass. Easier to get into, understand what you are aiming for and a much more interesting theme.
@@TheBrokenMeeple I'm starting to regret not backing the KS now 😭
Only other fashion game I know, is Rococo.
Yeah that's the only one I know, though my argument against that one is that the theme doesn't really bloom from that.
Do you still think this game holds up today?
It's lost a bit of staying power but I still enjoy it.
They only sent you a free retail copy? A real tragedy if you ask me :P
Ha ha, they sent me a free copy, I ain't going to be picky!
That intro is way too long
Most can easily skip past it, but I prefer a full intro to a 5 sec one.
