I find some of the early maps showing truly far off lands like the Dark Lands to be fascinating
Part 2? Yes, please. The world Tolkien created is breathtaking in its expansiveness and detail, to the extent that if he lived too be a thousand, he would still have stories yet to be told within these lands.
Funny…my high school geography teacher never mentioned these lands. Shows how horrible the K-12 American school system is!
Seriously? Our first grade teacher made us recite them by memory. Damn what a bunch of idiots.
There's a lot the system doesn't want you to know
What are they hiding???
@@sceneitallwithjeffandjon6984 fell deeds I reckon!
@@sceneitallwithjeffandjon6984Apparently a wide range of places, people, and things. Lmao
"Are we not part of this world?"
Yes!! More spotlights on lesser known regions 😁
Helps to have a greater understanding of different lands that aren't focused on in the books or films. Who knows what other people's or tales happened in these places. Perhaps subtle clues are hidden away that Tolkien meant to expand on but forgot. Makes them no less important or mysterious.
Quite.
Would personally love to see an expansion of Harad and Dorwinian and Enedwaith.
I love the potential of the lesser known, more obscure, and undefined.
Ripe for creative expansion, as Tolkien intended.
I'm glad the games elaborate on them. I wish I had time to play these days.
I know the feeling. I go back to work on May 6, and my time available to play much of anything (let alone FFXIV that I’ve gotten into recently) will be majorly reduced.
just as a note in the narnia books, the land north of Narnia, especially in the Silver Chair, is also call the Ettinsmoor. where giants live maybe we can cross over the lands there
Dragons there too, and a subterranean kingdom
For part II - Nan Elmoth, the dark woods where Eol lives. And also Nan Tathren the land of willows. The first time I looked over the map of Beleriand, I was instantly drawn to the latter, loving willow trees in real life
I don't think you are alone about the land of willows. I believe one of the messengers from Gondolin, on his urgent mission to get help from the west, fell in love with the place and spent a few years there. The only reason he left was because Ulmo apparently convinced him to build a raft to see the trees from the river. Once he was in the river Ulmo wafted him out and down the river. The Elf messenger was like, oh well, and continued his mission, was the last to set out (no kidding!) wrecked on the coast of Nevrast, met Tour, and got back to Gondolin. What was really funny is after his debriefing where he undoubtably told the King where he went and how long he was there, was like, "OK, thanks for your report". Nobody asked him why he spent so long in those woods on his urgent mission. LOL!
Not only have these videos grew my appreciation and interest in the lands of Middle Earth, but the Legacy LOTR Minecraft mod really started it since they created and fleshed out lands like Dorwinion, Harad, etc. in a way that you could actually explore their differences in a virtual space.
The battle between the two rivers
that has a nice ring to it
These lands & regions are mentioned in the various books but they can seem “muddled”. This video highlights them and separates their unique characteristics. Thanks!
I'd definitely like more of these. There are lands to the south and east that are seldom mentioned. I would be particularly interested in something on the lands to the far east, such as the Oricarni Mountains.
The name Ettenmoors is similar to that of the land of Ettinsmoor from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. This can be attributed to the close friendship between Lewis and Tolkien.
Langstrand means long beach, i suspect Tolkien experienced North Sea beaches during his work in Denmark. 🏖
Nice new series :)
Yes, I’d like more videos on the less known lands of Middle Earth.
1:33
Part 2, please, Yoystan! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great video, as usual! There is a Minecraft mod which adds all of these regions as biomes, with trolls, wargs and such. There's even an entrance to the ruins of utumno deep in forodwaith.
I was not named for it, my parents named me for an ancestral relative, but when I began reading in the Tolkien fantasy universe and discovered that a region in M-e contained my name I was happily astonished.
Keep up the great work, guys!
Dorwin Gray
Omg… the little dwarf emoji!!! ❤
I love this video! I had the Lord of the Rings rpg book in the 90s. Never got to ay it, ut spent hours reading the history and lore of the lands not covered in the novels. This video gives me the same sense of adventure that gave me.
Been wanting a video like this ever since The One Ring TTRPG was released. Awesome stuff.
ANGMAR - 'iron home', a long dead evil realm which fell to the armies of the last alliance of men and elves many millenia ago. The king of the realm was a victim of the one ring, and later became the chief of saurons' ring-wraiths.
part two please! and lesser known characters as well. thanks
Part 2!! Mini region spotlights are perfect! And lesser known characters would also be great, especially for shedding more light on all the captains of the West!
Yes a part 2, 3, and 4 if possible. Excellent video. Would love to see the southern plains of Mordor including the sea there.
Thanks Yoystan. Looking forward to part 2
Awesome vid! may the Valar smile upon you :)
Same to you, my friend!
Would like to see more about the lesser known lands and characters. Can never get enough of Tolkien’s world. Great video.
The Divide and Conquer mod for Medieval II Total War has a really cool take on Dorwinion and it's one of my favorite head canons, with the land being mostly Northmen, but influenced by the Avari elves that still dwell there
Id love to hear your thoughts on Elendils secret grave site in the White Mountains. A hidden path leading to a stone marked LNDL, shown to the king of Rohan!
I would like to see a part 2 of this.
I remember suggestioning a series like this many years ago in one of your streams (or maybe it was just Forodwaith, I don't recall) can't wait to see more episodes of this. great content as always.
A really interesting and original video. Thank you. I like that you're exploring other lessor know themselves and places. RUclips absolutely does not need another video discussing what would happen if Gandolf seized the ring.
Interesting video yoystan keep it up
I love it when you cover lesser known characters, places, and creatures because it shows how creative J. R. R. Tolkien was when he created Middle Earth. The only thing that makes me sad is that I wish we knew more about these characters, places, and creatures. I wish Tolkien wrote more about them. I just want to know more about them. Well done as always, Yoystan!
Thank you very much Yoistan, these lesser known lands have always been a mystery that had rent-free space in my brain. For instance, I remember the fun I had playing in the Ettenmoors in "War in the North". The beauty of that rugged land really grabbed me there.
I would love to see more of the far flung places in Arda! Even as a child, my eyes wander to the edge of maps, wondering what is beyond.
Yes! More of this! I particularly am immensely interested in the history and geography of Arnor, and the North in general. There seems to be a surprising lack of information to be found concerning the physical qualities of the environment, in the form of narratives and even exposition-esque lore dumps
My favorite point of lore about Middle-earth is that we only ever visit one part of it. There are other continents!
This was great, my friend! Please, do continue! 🙏🏻
Dorwinion fascinates me most because of its unique position as a trade-link between the Woodland Realm, Dale and Erebor to the west, and the Men of Rhun to the East. A prosperous land filled with the riches of "vine and vale", holding fast for thousands of years by means of trade and diplomacy before the War of the Ring. Imagine for a moment what evil Sauron's Easterling host might have wrought before they marched on Dale and Erebor.
Just as Weta Workshop wove historical designs and motifs into Tolkien's fictional realms, I like to envision Dorwinion's culture, architecture and military being likened Byzantine Greece and Anatolia, as well as Medieval Novgorod (which influenced the designs of Dale and Laketown). Like the Eastern Roman Empire and Medieval Venice, Dorwinion may have depended on levies and mercenaries from all over the world. It's rife for one's imagination, given the historical influences Tolkien wrote into Rhovanion.
I would love to see another episode like this! You did an awesome job!!!
Loved this! Looking forward to part ii
The creators of the Crusader Kings III Realms in Exile modification greatly expanded upon Dorwinion and made it a very interesting polity.
Loved the video. I would be excited to see more of this, as well as lesser known characters 💯
This is amazing! All these details make Middle Earth feel alive ❤
Great video!!
The lands where the ent wives are rumored to have went
All of it! Do all of it! (Please!)
I love listening to this stuff during the Holidays/winter. I need to let these stack!
Great work on this one! I enjoyed it quite a lot, we already know much of the popular locations Tolkien wrote about so exploring the unexplored is refreshing
Nice video! I have a Beleriand and Middle Earth Map in my study room and I am glad to see so many places covered that are on my map!
Lovely video. Thank you. A Part Two would be most welcome, as also videos on lesser known characters.
Well done! Your "spotlight" method is perfection!
this is great!! one random spot I’ve always wondered about is the town or city of Tharbad. what was there!? also, the far flung lands in that atlas like the Dark Land or the land south of Harad that looks like Africa. would be cool to see a video on these! I think Gondor has a lot of regions and cities that would be interesting to discuss more too.
Excellent direction, thank you.
Glad you're covering this!
Great idea for a video, I’d like to see this become a series! And excellent use of some really nice illustrations.
Love this video, when I was younger I scoured the map and research all of these small places. They stood out to me for some reason more than the big name areas
Your videos are always perfect brother and I like this video of the lesser known land so to speak! An amazes me the depth of this legendarium every time I see a new video! Keep up the good work brother. Thank you
Mythology candles are great! So glad you recommended them! And yes, more videos like this!
Love the subject, the artwork, and excellent voice-over and history!! The mystery of the lesser known lands does indeed deepen and embiggens Middle-earth.
I found these lesser known lands quite interesting. Definitely follow up with more of this. Another possible video you could do are places you'd like to live in Middle Earth.
Absolutely❣️🤙😉 Keep up the great production’s🙏
That was fun and yes on more of this. Thank you.
Had some personal things come up and have been unable to involve myself in the Tolkien community recently, but this is a great video to come back to!
The work that the devs on Lotro put in is so under appreciated by the wider Tolkien community. Us Lotro fans are very appreciative but they have done so much for us to visualise these places that we have heard seldom about (sometimes only a few lines). Another great video Yoystan and you are the best and have always been my favourite RUclipsr as you introduced me to the wider aspects of Tolkien’s Legendarium.
Your videos feel exactly as if I’m sitting in The Cottage of the Lost play listening to the past events of our world. I will be forever thankful. 🙂
Love it. Explore every single cave and nook and berg
More videos like this would be great! Keep them coming!
Great video, I enjoy learning more about the lands of middle earth. I would like to see more of this kind of content. I would like to know more about where the Easterlings and the Southrons came from.
bro too me you are the best middle earth lore master on the net....if i have one recommendation for you it would be putting some mega compilations together so that people can also use you as a sleep box......wishing you all the best and hope your channel keeps growing! its the best!
i love it, cant wait to see part 2, and i do want to see a video about lesser known caracters
Always cool to hear about the areas and characters outside the main stuff
I’d love if you could go over all the old maps and lands in details. Thank for the videos.
I love the enigmatic nature of Dorwinion. One thing I would have mentioned about this region is how the wainriders/Easterlings took over the region around this area. Also I would talk about how this area went on the tail end of the northern kingdom of rhovanion when it was ruled by vidugavia/northmen princes.
Yes do more of these. Love learning more of all of middle earth.
Id love to see more of these lesser lands!
Yes I love this sort of exploration of lesser known places and characters
Yes!!!! Let’s do a multiple part series of this topic
I'm DMing a LOTR D&D campaign and am planning to include the Ettenmoors, so this was great!!! Thanks!
This was a cool video. I would love a part 2 of this.
Haven't even watched the video yet but I like the idea already. Bring on part 2.
This is fantastic. I’d love to see more on lesser known places and characters. What really made this great was excellent artwork. I am hoping that most of it was specifically created for these places as most of it was unique to me (that doesn’t say a ton for it being unique!).
I enjoyed this. Yes, I'd like to see a part two please.
Thank you for this type of content. Really appreciated from the die hard fans.
great video plz do more of these
Love this! Please, do more😊
Super interesting. Thx for the video.
Great video!
This was good 😃 A part 2 would be great 👍
More of this and characters, Please and thank you
really would love to see more of this
Definitely enjoyed the new series idea, part two should be fun 🤞. Could maybe even do similar series on lesser known characters and artifacts
Yes, part 2, 3…
Looking forward to the video on the wizards staves.
I’ve been waiting for something like this
Yes please another episode like this !
You know, one thing that I've been fascinated by is how much these lands (and Middle Earth more broadly) inspired the world of Azeroth and World of Warcraft. (I haven't played in years, no longer an MMORPG guy, but the WOW movie was on the screen during one of my gym sessions this past week.)
Dude this was awesome I'm someone who's always fascinated by the lesser talked about surrounding areas and what could be happening there or how the story affects them.
If I could make a request I personally would love to know more about Belafas the southern coast of Gondor but the furthest and least talked about part
If the wizards were tasked with finding Sauron, then it would make sense for Gandalf to travel to Forodwaith to ascertain whether the Dark Lord or his minions were in residence. It was an unexplored area, but Morgoth was known to have had one or two strongholds in such places, so Sauron might also.
More please! All these little details are tribute to Tolkien's painstaking worldbuilding.
Mr. West. You are my fav LotR RUclipsr. Great video
I would like to see a part two. I would also like to see similar videos about lesser known characters.
Would love more of these. :)
Excellent this
