Wow...almost have me crying. I worked at this facility for over 15 years. Its sad to see it dead. This footage was actually the W. A. Howe Center. It was built to house developmentally disabled adults in more like late 60's early 70's. The Tinley Park Mental Health Center are the mulit-story buildings to the east, closer to Harlem avenue. There are also about 6 single family style homes over there as well. Those buildings have asbestos all through them so protect yourself!
@@nukecity20 I worked on Unit 4...the cluster of one story buildings on the far west side of the property. When I worked there each unit had a different color theme. The exterior and interior doors, as well as a large room dividing credenza were the unit color. It was a very homelike setting for the care of developmentally disabled adults. I worked there from 1979 to 1993.
@@drayad2 what were the houses for? I was in the area earlier this week and stumbled up on them. I was only able to get into one house. The rest were sealed tight.
I worked at Howe center for 34 years. The area your showing is after it was closed and left to rot. It was behind the Tinley park Mental Heath center. It was made up of 5 units containing 10 homes, 5 bedrooms' 3 bathrooms , laundry room, dining room, kitchen. They were Homes. Not wards, not institutions. There was a pool, gym, cafertia, work shop areas. That was called the social hab. Then a large adminstration building. It was a wonderful place for the people and staff to be. It was 100 peoples with mental disabilities home. For many the only home they ever lived in . Then due to nothing other then the political agenda it was closed. The people who lived there actively participating in the Tinley park community. Restaurants, movies ect. Now this prime property lays in ruins. Why? Tinley park Mental hospital was restored for Katerina not Howe center.
I lived in Tinley Park for 36 years. I drove by this place countless times, but could only ever see glimpses from Harlem Ave or 183rd Street. I was always curious what it looked like up close. I remember when it was used as a refuge location after Hurricane Katrina.
My friend went with a group of people to venture through the abandoned grounds. The amount of personal documents and files left behind are shocking. No one took them, now they are out for anyone to find any see. *Personal Information* lying around. They went to the tunnels way underground and found an area with fresh blood and features that looked like a morgue. They swear by the smell there were still rotting bodies inside the metal drawers.
Nice footage, very cool to see what it looks like in there. I stayed about a half mile from here when I was in Tinley Park for work in 2017. I was thinking about trying to go in, but after watching security for a couple days I figured it wouldn't be worth it. They were making rounds day and night every hour it seemed.
I'm pretty sure Tinley Police keep close eye on that place I imagine it being hard to get in there in such a high traffic area near a gas station etc. And right on Harlem
My friend and her group were able to go in two times within these past two weeks, only issue was getting back to their car after they explored and left.
@@bobbysmith2270 they didn’t catch me but they caught my friend. His dumbass had an improperly healed leg break so he was limping basically.
